No, I didn't really consider copyright laws at all when making the video. Technically speaking, the video in its entirety is a violation of copyright law. The song is used without permission and the video is used without permission. The only attempt I can make to not have the respective owners sue my ass off is that I'm not making any money off this and I make no claims of ownership.
As far as doing a PSA for your English class, as long as you aren't entering it into a contest or posting
Hey BigUgly, I've got a question. did you have to deal with copyright laws to put this song on your video? Because I am doing a PSA for my English class and I just want to know if it's ok if I use this song. I'm asking you because I think that it would be a little overkill to call the record company and ask their permission. Thanks!
this is so unreal!! before i ever saw this video i used this song for a class project about the great gatsby. theme was isolation and this worked perfect lol
the book was awsome i didnt pay too much attention to the movie,, but i didnt like it, there was no meaning behind the colours in the movie, but ill wach it tonight
just fantastic, beautiful song to a perfect video. i hope you got an A! to wonderful. no one cares about the time code with such a work of art. if you do more please ad me as a friend. you are a true talent.
I didn't watch the movie, but I 've read the book and I reckon that it is a good one. It is the first time that I listen to this soundtrack and I must admit that it is awwesome!!!
Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter -- tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms further, and one fine morning...
I disagree. Gatsby believed in reclaiming the past. His hope was to restore the relationship he once had with Daisy, even though it's a logical paradox (he can never again become the poor army boy he once was, so their relationship is altered). It's not the future that anyone is striving towards, considering issues of old money, eugenics, and good blood. This is why boats are against the current: we are ruled by the past, blind to the future and, possibly, even the present.
I see what you're saying. These are Nick's words though, at the end of the book, not mine. :P I was just putting it in to conclude the last paragraph. :) The last line really does sum it up though, that we are always heading into the past, and we can't overcome that. I think it is in the film, not sure if it's in the book as well, but when Nick tells Gatsby he can't repeat the past, he exclaims "Can't repeat the past? Why, of course you can!" So I think what you're saying is true; I concur.
Cool, thanks. I just wasn't sure if that actual line was in the book or not, I always seem to mix up my movie/book quotes. But yeah, I know it's one of the main themes, Gatsby is one of my most loved books. :)
great video! I know a lot of people hated the book & movie, but they were both some of my favorites (not reading it in high school probably had a lot to do with it).
the reason i liked the book was because of english class, did you get the meaning of the colours or the eyes of dr ekeleberg and the valley of the ashes?
i fucking loved gatsby hes the man i was fucking pissed when he got shot, where were his bodyguards?! and i thought gatsby would live through that hes my superman
even ifGatsby was-a-fraudster/had-murdered sum1 himself(NObody is perfect)he might have done it by accident or4good reason.there's such thing asLEGAL:)crime:( Dire StraitZ'legalised Robbery,RobinHood=when U steal from the rich 2give 2the poor(kill a terrorist 2save many ppl)WasDaisy a 2-rich-2B-smart airHead? prob.coZ of silly girlZ/blondeZ like her sum OKmen turn gay.her brunnette girlfriend wasSmarter, would have respected Gatsby,NO disrespect 2 other blondes. Vid is v.good. thanks for posting
Sadly, the timestamp is a part of the source, not the final output. To take out the time stamp I would have to upload the movie again, then re-edit it together the exact same way, and some of the clips were just plain luck, so in the future I might be willing to do all that, but not right now.
No, I think that would be a violation of the copyright and 2 even if I was willing to, the device I use to upload videos on my computer has had the major flaw of not being able to transfer sound. So all you would get would be the video and no audio

This is fantastic! My favourite book and film, and a perfect selection of clips and music. Really really excellent.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

Nick and Gatsby talking about not being able to and being able to recapture the past was in the book. It is one of the centeral themes :)
