  • his picking hand is just tremendous! You could write two books of right hand technique applied to music making using just exerpts from this song.

  • We just got schooled.

  • Wow he has to be one the tastiest players on the planet.

  • bob nailed it at 4.40

    my god

  • Feeling to the clouds.. :)

  • This is as good as it gets, Robben Ford plays through those changes like no one else.

  • tone is in the fingers and the way you phrase.. the equipment hardy matters in comparison

  • Sorry , his tone come from his hands.....the gear addiction is the biggest pitfall of getting good tone.enuf said.

  • Sorry, he wasn't using his Dumble on this tune. He's using one of his old Fender Super Reverbs.

  • His tone comes from his custom guitar, Dumble Overdrive Special and most of all, his touch! This is a great example of Robben Ford crossing over from blues to jazz and back.

  • I'd like to find more RF videos (or other mp3s) with keyboard. Any links?

  • check with RFManagement..they might be able to help you with finding what your lookin for if you haven't found some yet.

This is one my absolute fav tunes..thanks for sharing the clip mintip

  • Does anyone have more music of Bob Malach? The man is amazing... there should be a Bob Malach channel!!!

  • really really amazing sound bob..

  • What a great tone he got. Just love his sound

  • masterclass!!

  • Just spectacular all around.

  • I remember seeing this on VH-1 way back when & have been hoping it would show up.

Just a grand performance all the way around.

    Vintage Robben.

  • Bob Malach on sax really is an amazing saxophonist. Not quite a Brecker clone. Seems to have his own thing together and just a beautiful tone and so soulful.

  • coolness

  • Nice!

  • The best RF recording out there right now is Larry Carlton Live in Tokyo (with RF) He's playing great on that recording.

  • awsome musician, thanks for posting..

  • This is the kind of playing that has kept me a RF fan for 30 years. This is a blues guy that can actually play the changes. I fear that the title of this video keeps people from discovering it. Wish I had a dozen of those Dumbles...

  • Well, I can see a Fender combo beside the piano. Probably a Twin Reverb. ;-)

  • Yes, and by the sound of it...a Dumble. That's a typical mod.

  • I don't think so. Robben always says he uses stock Twins when he can't bring his Dumble with him.

  • Well...I don't know. I've got two twins and they just don't get that nice wanky, grainy tone.

  • When using a reiussie or a blackface, Robben uses a pedal for overdrive. When using an 80's "red knob" Twin he uses the amp's overdrive channel.

  • Look behind him at about 56 seconds into the song...

i think there's a Dumble hiding in the ranks...I think it's tucked in to the left of the Leslie. But, what ever the case, I love his tone on this recording. I like the way he starts the solo with his fingers and the pick stashed between his knuckles and then when he gets with it, he moves the pick to his fingers and uses it (the pick) for the fast passages.

    John

  • Well hit me with a rhythm stick! You are right!

An Overdrive Special is hiding in the background. My appologies, sir.

  • No need for apology... now I think I might be mistaken...

  • I agree. Thanks for posting!

  • Great performance. Thanks for posting!
