  • As much as I love HP and the whole Mythos

The very thought that some people WANT this to be true, makes me want to go back home and tell my Mother I love her.

    And RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

  • @timlikeen and that is what is used to justify people thinking it is only psychological, fear.

  • demon means original spirit

  • the anunaki apear in sumerian tablets look it up

  • eh wrong the word dagon appears in the bible in the tale of samson and delila

  • quit calling it the necronomicon its called al azif

  • "Warlock Asylum" hasn't the foggiest idea what he is talking about.

I wish I had brought my boots and shovel before I listened to his argument.

He doesn't name a single source, a single reference, nothing. He spins a yarn (sounds like something he made up himself) and convolutes the hell out of it to make it fit.

  • I've been thinking about this since it was first released and while I think king won this debate, it was because his opponent made the wrong argument. The success of the simon necronomicon was certainly due to marketing it AS the text referred to by HP, but the content was not dependant on his inventions, being primarily a cobbled together mythos based on the sumerian, with a lovecraft veneer.

  • @Deophagy Pretty much, yeah.

It blows my mind that in the year 2011 people are STILL touting Peter Levenda's book as not only the "Necronomicon" that Lovecraft invented (yes, invented - for Christ's sake people, stop taking credit away from the guy) but that it is even an authentic ancient grimoire at all. THAT blows my mind.

The only conclusion I can draw is that people still believe it is real because for whatever reason, they WANT it to be real.

  • @jjobie Agreed.

  • very interesting.

I find Jason King's argument and argumentation much more on point while Warlord seemed to be relying on minor obscure details.

~But without doing some fact checking one might aswell be rep'ing Fox news jabbering about before a blank chalkboard

  • @FireWhispWhat are you on about? Don't type so fast :) Are are ye losing yer grip???

  • @FireWhisp What? :/

  • @FireWhisp "and many will come from east and west to sit at the table....in the Kingdom of God" ....but many of those who think themselves "saved" will be thrown into outer darkness....

(Of course, I'm using your terminology).

  • Myst...why did ye remove your original comment?

  • @FireWhisp Can ye rephrase that comment? I don't get it.

  • @FireWhisp

Any exchange of ideas carries the basic assumption that each person believes they are "right". Besides, this was a debate, meaning we were each tasked with proving/demonstrating our unique positions were "right"/true/whatever. Furthermore, I feel you missed the point entirely, as there are many tangential points made throughout which are of exceedingly educational value to one such as yourself. Don't hate the game, hate your ignorance.

    JK
