  • i have been working in the nursing field for 7 years now. I have worked with a variety of patients. I find that quads and paras are the most difficult to care for. It is not the physical aspect of the job. I feel that they take their anger out on their caregivers. They can be verbally abusive. I can never get it right with these patients no matter how hard I try. I am actually pretty good at my job. So why do they make me feel so burned out emotionally?

  • @bertiebon22 They just do that. That's probably part of the reason why they're in nursing homes to begin with - their attitude just sucks. That, combined with the fact that they physically burn out their family caregivers, is why.

  • @shounenbat510 You guys must be unlucky ,getting rude angry people with sci. And cant you blame some of them with high level injuries ,they don,t get a choice, being forced to lve like shit . Im a c5 quad and never treat carers like shit but they do have to put up with my bad days and good days . PS just because some one has a sci does;t mean there good person, but there still is good people out there i promise .

  • I've been curious about this injury and resulting condition and this is one of the best videos I've ever seen on it.

With all due respect to Christopher Reeve, I think the disabled people critical of his laser focus on a cure were correct. That was Chris' response to going from having it all to having what seemed like nothing to him. He couldn't make that transition well, understandably.

Though I'm not disabled in any way, I feel that Chris shifted the focus in the wrong way.

  • The US should be ashamed! Good health care is only available to those who have pots of cash. Even if Tom were not such a great guy etc, he should still receive the best care available and in the place he wants to be. I am horrified that he could be sent hundreds of miles away to rot in some horrible nursing home.. Can't his Dad get any help from the Navy? They employ him so they probably recommended the crappy health insurance.

  • @althaushexe I agree 1000%

  • This is the second time I've watched this video. Tom is such an inspiration to me and I'm sure everyone out there. I will pray for a cure of paralysis because if anyone deserves it, it's Tom. God Bless You.

  • The goverment spends so much money rebuilding other countries. Anyone who this happens to should be immediately taken care of for the rest of thier lives! All covered by the goverment..NO questions asked! Instead our taxes take care of inmates...

  • I just posted a video showing a technique based on Chi Gung that can reduce spasticity as well as facilitate the bowel routine. I am a MT as well as a PTA and worked with Quadriplegics at a Veteran's Hospital. Good luck to all of you.

  • She's a good nurse.

  • be strong bi'm c4-c5 take cfare

  • makes me realise how lucky i am i was feeling sorry for myself because of cut nerve in my wrist now it makes me grateful im not in a wheelchair

  • Gojogongua Thank you for your honest answer but you know its really not that bad. All we need is to be looked after properly as that is our number one problem. Think of how lucky you are to be able body.

  • well, im not paralyzed at all. I just like watching videos on how people live through troubles like these. all i can say is good luck, and i wish you the best in moving again.

  • "These people" happen to be somebody's family member. Who are you to play God? People don't choose what hand will be dealt to them. You make the decision to go on with life and live it to the fullest. I feel your comment was uneducated and unnecessary. As my mother always said, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all." I pray that you or your family member are never in this situation. Then you may think twice before posting a comment like this.

  • "Who are you to play God?" lol

  • "I pray that you or your family member are never in this situation"

so u pray that God doesnt play his family :)

  • I think "allowed to die", or given the option to "choose death" is a more appropriate way of putting it..

  • How can you even think that? The video shows that Tom still enjoys his life and that he is loved. A lot of able bodied people can't say the same. Your thinking was very prevalent in Nazi Germany when they murdered the handicapped.

  • I'm a C5-C6 Subluxation.

I had a Halo screwed into my skull too.

I coded a couple of times too.

I was clinically dead at least twice.

As I slipped away I felt nothing but peace.

My conscious thinking processes slipped away too.

    I only FELT. Just peace.

My last conscious thought was, "It's OK".

That's the most profound thing I ever learned. No matter what happens, ultimately its OK.

Live until its time to go.

  • As a fellow Floridian and quadriplegic I totally understand and support your cause. I don't believe the insurance companies care about anything but the bottom line. And that is dollar signs. I wish you the best in this endeavor and the strength to keep up the fight.

  • Well, I am new to Youtube, so I'm just looking at videos of other fellows. I am paraplegic after birth from spinda bifida.
