  • that's why he was "chairman of the board" Frank was the "man" and still is!

  • That ending knocks me out everytime. The way the orchestra finishes and the strings play out that last note. Just breathtaking!

  • Ginny he is the man when he starts out with Night and day by Cole no body I mean No body does Porter like Frankie boy...Carlo57

  • 0 dislikes just the way i want it

  • has anyone ever seen a better mugshot??

  • You guys need to hear the 1977 disco version...LOL

  • Glad you uploaded this version. Only slightly spoiled by the vid fx in / out I'm probably wrong - but the fx just seemed so out of place..

  • this was the very first version of this classic that I heard and it's still my favorite!Frank's voice is just so sumptuous and full-mysterious and emotionally powerful.Majestic even. Long live the greatest interpreter of the Great American Songbook ever-Francis Albert Sinatra. Full stop.

  • Sinatras best version I can find, sooooo far.....LOVE IT. Janice Ms. Monaco's Music!

  • Ah, lovely. Perfect rendition. Real passion on a song! What has happened to that?

  • Amazing<3<3<3<3

  • "Skip the intro??" No way!! His staccato beginning sets it off perfectly!! I think Cole Porter would have been very pleased with

    Don Costas/Sinatras interpretation!!

  • who is the guy in the mug shot?

  • @sourmanmha that's Sinatra, according to his daughter Tina, she wrote in her book, and that pic was in there, he was arrested for breach of promise, so all those folks who take marriage lightly today, they didn't then...hence he got arrested, it's a good book, was tough to read towards the end due to his marriage to Barbara, and his ultimate death, still miss the MAN, but thats why they call him the "voioce

  • @headedsomewhere no, the mug shot dates from something like 1936, he was arrested for attempted seduction -- if you need I can find where I read it, but I'm pretty sure it was in the liner notes of a re-release of Reprise-label selections. Tina was covering his a-- like any good daughter would.

  • @sourmanmha sorry about that I was rushed, I was trying to write "THE VOICE" Peace L.

  • Only you beneath the moon or under the sun

  • this is my fave version of this song, ole blue eyes takes some beating.

  • Love Frankie :-)

  • This brings back memories.

    Marie

  • i have to say... NOBODY can match his voice, he is simply an angel.

  • I feel like I can do anything when I listen to Frank sing this.Calling it euphoric is an understatement...

  • This song is, perhaps, the most beautiful song ever written. All of Sinatra's versions are great, but I do love this for the beautiful arrangement as well as his emotional interpretation. Cole Porter wrote both the music and lyrics, which even the great George Gershwin didn't do.

  • Skip the "unorthodox" part to 0:59 and you can listen to it all night and it never gets old!

  • This is Sinatra's best interpretation of Night and Day. The man sings with emotion,

style, and of course his voice was at its best. This is a great love song that few can

develop the lyrics and notes from pianisimo to a beautiful crecendo like Frank.

  • @iluminatiytu I always thought so, and have looked everywhere for it.........

  • The definitive interpretation.

  • This version is so delicious!

  • One of Sinatra's very best! True, Doris Day displays her beautiful voice in her version, but she simply does not convey the passion and longing that only Frank could. No doubt, this is exactly the way Cole Porter meant it to be performed.

  • what a difference 10 years. This version is miles better than the earlier verion by Sinatra. What happened to the man?Did he get lessons in life or something? This is sublime!!!!

  • @gipperbanana Agreed! and the best ending to a song EVER! Oh those strings!!!

  • this is not the creepy version! but still thanks for uploading :D

  • beem looking for this version .. i have a cassette of this song :D

  • Beautiful version, very dramatic. Only Doris Day's performance is better.

  • his best version of this cole porter classic

  • Thank you for posting this enchanting version of a beauiful song. One of the very best of Frank Sinatra and such a pleasure to listen to. From a big fan for many many years.

  • Just heard this song for the first time with the lyrics on another page and it was beautiful. And I'm not even a Sinatra fan...maybe I might start.

  • why creepy??? LOL This is beautiful and superb!

  • #OMG #LOL

  • @TroubadourDog I totally agree, this is by far my fave version of this song, and you know how many versions I had to go through to get it.....lets just say countless, anyway, this person so appreciates you for putting this on.....thanks You've made my day.................

  • In many ways, romance is what this song is all about. Finding that special someone. Dancing with them. caressing them. This is a dancers song. A lovers song. Hauntingly beautiful. Just like a beautiful woman. Once you find your mate, you never want to let them go. Whether you are together or apart.

  • This version was made so that lovers, dancers, people with a feeling for each other, can dance. A waltz, a foxtrot, or just holding someone special. Imagine, finding someone who is your "soulmate." Stopping them. Holding them. Thinking of them. What a wonderful. Haunting, yes. But, when one is in love. When one yearns to be with that, "special someone.". No one sings it better than Frank Sinatra. I think of finding someone special and this song enters my mind. Thank you for the posting.

  • Creepy version, LOL!! True, it's a much lighter song without the intro verse. But this and his very first recording of it (from the 40s) are my favorite. Thank you for uploading!

  • hey movie joe no doubt the best recording of this song that he did by the way from 0.54 to 1.10 he goes all that long wiht a single breath just listen to it. Is the third "you" from the introduction till he begins singing this was frank at the top of his game thanks for posting this troubadour

  • My mother was in a nursing home for the last 5 years of her life. She was a huge Sinatra fan & so was I. Saw him in concert twice. Even with her Alzheimer's, she always remembered the lyrics to all of his songs & so did I. We had so much fun singing along, laughing at our bad singing! When the called to say she was dying, I rushed up & sang this last song to her. Visited his website & told them, & the next day they sent a message saying that I was in their thoughts & prayers. Very nice!

  • this has always been my favorite version of this song.... it creates a very dreamy atmospheric feeling of being in a club at 2 am and listening to Frank sing personally to me! thanks for posting this

  • Absolutely brilliant, the lyrics are clearly dropped out the way they should be. It´s a part of Sinatras mastership, the words are to be listen to, to be understood and the singer is able to transfer it to you. Not that common nowadays where singers screem and pretend feelings they don´t have.

And of course, The arranger and conductor Don Costa is also something extraordinary!

  • Dan Costa's arrangement is awesome. Best ever. Timeless. Thanks for posting this.

  • I've always preferred the more up tempo versions of sinatra songs. the 1957 version of this song with the nelson riddle orchestra is much better

  • Goodness I couldn't stop listening to this last night...Reminds me of everything my generation is doing wrong with music today...

Hauntingly romantic song, may it live on forever~

  • @Rayna4ever

    so, so true....

  • Bravo!!!!! I like th way you ended w "A Man alone" most people don't even know about that album with Rod McUen. Lonesome Cities , yuup. good stuff my friend. well played.

  • this is my favorite version of this song!

  • i like more its 1957 with Nelson Riddle's arrangements. The end of this one is little less than awful and not in line with the tempo of the rest of the song and Sinatra's voice in the introduction sounds unnecessarily low-key... In any case, it's always a pleasure to listen to Frank! thanks for posting!

  • I believe his early reprise work, such as Sinatra and Strings are amongst his best work!! This is my very favorite version and thank you for posting!!

  • Why is this a creepy version? I think he sings it beautifully here and the full orchestra and arrangement sound great. And he sings the verse on this recording which is nice to hear. I think this is arguably his best recording of it. The maturity in his voice at this point in his career also add a lot to the lyrics and the way he interpets them - brilliantly as he always did. Go Frank! You're never creepy!

  • @moviejoe79 Horrible sos vos
