what difficulty was this game played on? I've quite some trouble beating teams on regular.. I haven't played extensively though

PES 12 don't have all licenses, most notable missing league is Barclays, only Man U and Tottenham are licensed, other teams have fake names and fake uniforms and fake logos. There's unlicensed national teams w/ fake players. It might sound bad, but you can download online patches where other users modify the teams to real players/kits/logos and stuff

FIFA if you're a casual player, PES if you want better gameplay.
