That pretty nice! I've been looking for schematics for hid ballast. Does yours have emi filters? Most aftermarket kits you buy dont... How many Watts is your output?

It looks NOT brute force, because the guy actually used a scope, not something someone would use to make the cheap and dirty apporach. If I were doing it, I'd use a 12A vacuume cleaner as a ballast, then wire that in series with the bulb. Then I'd RF start it with my tesla coil. THAT is my brute force approach.
