You should put a bed in your newer house. You can make it out of some wood and silk. You can make the silk from cobwebs you find around. It allows you to set your spawn point at the bed.
Also, you have slimes spawning in your house because it has dirt wall in it. You can break that down with a hammer and replace it with some walls of wood.
