It's strange that there are quite a few comments about Morton Downey's voice. It shows that people just aren't used to a high tenor voice in popular music these days. I think Downey has a great voice; it reminds me of another great tenor voice of that era, Frank Williamson, who can be heard belting out Mona in a clip somewhere on YT. Dorothy Lee was incredible, the quintessential flapper, cute as a button.
I got what seems to be a complete print of this at an estate sale. I thought it had been taped off of TV, but at no point is there any station identification. Does anybody know if this film has ever been on TV? Specifically, has it ever been on TCM? It's an RKO film so TCM should be able to play it.
Can you please upload some clips of On With the Show 1929 I got that movie on the warner archive I liked it. Sorry if I'm bothering you don't have to do it if you dont want to.
This is a wonderful clip. I have wanted to see Syncopation for years but have not been able to find it. Where is it available? Tell me the secret password.
This is NOT a lost film yet it is not available in any format for sale. This clip is wonderful. I would love to see the whole film Thank you stjn00 for uploading this clip.
Dorothy Lee, found by Ziegfield and later teamed with Wheeler and woosley died in San Diego in 2007 at age 98. married 7 times, once to Wrigley chewing gum heir. Marriage interrupted her career and her last movie was 1940. She would have been married 8 times but marriage for Sunday December 7, 1941 cancelled by Japs bombing Pearl Harbor. Lee tutored Ruby Keeler in dance in New York, but unlike Keeler could sing well. As cute as they come.
What a time when sexy ladies placed themselves on a grand piano! Thanks for posting this rare gem. For loads of swingin' music visit my blog anytime of the year. It's linked with my profile.
@msrubyvixen If you've seen any of Dorothy Lee's movies, say with Wheeler and Woolsey, you'll know that she basically sounded like Helen Kane anyway, but without the Brooklyn accent.
I've made this, one of my Favorites*****! Take a peek! It holds up very well as does "From Niagara Falls To Reno," Blonde Dorothy Lee's Song and Dance number also in my Favorites! *****
Love seeing these rare clips. However, I have to comment on the fact that Mr. Downey's voice seems like it should be coming from HER. LOL! Still love it though!
This kind of music is really the best! It's much better than Rock or Hip-Hop. (To be quite frank with you, I HATE those other styles!) Good Job, stjn00!
Helen Kane for sure. Annette Hanshaw did a great mimicry of Helen Kane, insomuch Helen Kane was sued, unsuccessfully, by her label for violation of her contract.
This is the first RKO Radio picture, thought lost for years. The man, by the way, is Morton Downey, and this is only the second all talking musical made. Unfortunately, most of the rest of the film is nowhere near as good as this clip. Thanks for posting.
I think he was famous as an Irish tenor. You can still get his cds.Wasn't this guy married to Barbara Bennet of Joan Bennets family? I think she committed suicide
Yes - this little clip captures this last gasp of the 20's era. Sound film came in just in time to provide some glimpses of the last couple of yrs of the 20's. It was a great era...the music, theater, literature, art, architechture, the fun,..etc...
Thanks, just when I thought all of the joy had been taken out of my surfing youtube I discover your return, please keep me posted next time you are fadded out. Thanks again !!

There was a 1942 movie Syncopation, starring Jackie Cooper and Bonita Garnville.
Not sure it was a re-make of the original which I have not seen.
