Watching border patrol in nz they had these cars immported here for the show. And they are replicas. It was to expensive to import the real things so they used fakes.

@Janusha Seriously, they were MR2s with bodykits on them, I spoke to the crew backstage, they didn't say WHY they were using them, only that they were. I'm not badmouthing TG or anything, christ it's the best show on TV and I still going to MPH every year! Just stated that they were 'fake' Ferrari's after all the controversy there seems to have been around this stunt as to whether they were fake or real... :) Just wanted to clear it up :)

This is a wild rumour that started circulating on american websites. Much like other american myths and wild claims they grow as they are passed to the next more or less serious publication. Like the Viper, Corvette, Cadillac faked Nurburgring lap times, or the oldest one of them all. The myth told so many times its now in history books, that americans won 4 times in a row at Lemans in the 60s with a Ford GT40. Or the most recent one. That somehow Mercedes stole their AMG SLS from chrysler.

Each time the story is told, it grows. People add their own little twist to add validity. "someone told me" "I saw it myself" and such crap. If you look closely at the cars. They carry a Ferrari logo. Sure it might be easier to use a Toyota but putting a Ferrari logo on a fake and broadcasting that to millions is illegal as hell. If it was true, they would get sued for a ton of cash. This is Top Gear. A 2 billion dollar industry and you think they cant afford 3 ten year old Ferraris? Bullshit.

Ok.. so someone made a fake F355. My company in England used to own a real one. I know it well. On this video there are 3 Ferrari 360s tho. Toatlly different models and with the price of a 360 today. Who the hell would bother faking one with TopGears huge budget. Would be a bit stupid if you ask me.
