Un chef d'oeuvre!!!!! Le public en délire est là pour le confirmer! On peut regretter la prononciation des américains .. mais quelles voix!! et quelle musique! On aimerait revoir l'oeuvre en vrai!!!
Wow thank you so much for posting this - could not have been better timing as I am currently doing a uni project on Degas who painted the nun scene from this opera (although back in 1876). What a great reference for me!
Some of the finest singing Anderson ever did. I remember an Italian performance from around 1968 when Scotto sang this aria and at the conclusion capped it with an extremely difficult and brilliant cabaletta which Anderson at this time could easily have done. Perhaps Scotto's version had the cabaletta added for Italian tastes when it was translated into Italian. Does anyone know? I doubt it was in the original French version.
I doubt I will ever hear a finer version of "Robert, toi que j'aime" than that given by June Anderson in this recording. I could listen to it a thousand times (maybe I have!) and never tire of it.
