  • Thanx a lot. every lesson is priceless and the way u teach is perfect. keep up the good job and may god give you a long and happy life

  • Dear Sir ! first of all i would like to thank you for all these lessons. You did a great job for beginers.

In this 11th lesson i couldnt get your words in your video. Also it seems like the lesson you wrote there does not matches with your words. How would i play DhGi ? Also please tell me if there is a difference in Gi and Ge.

    thanks.

    nayab

  • I meant "fascinating".

  • dasinating video - i am not a tabla player, buti love to see and hear it played and taught. thank you for posting this

  • Good day Venkat Sir. Just wanted to ask if this is your last Tabla Lesson or are you going to post more of them?

  • hello my dad is really into tabla learning and so am i ,and i would like to give him a video of this to my dad for Christmas and if possible i can have the link or something i can send this to my dad i would really appreciate this and i love the sound of the tabla thanks for sharing

  • @fuc3t

  • what taal is it sir???

  • Thanks Venkat, these lessons are vey helpful to the beginners!! Much appreciated.

In this video its advanced Roopak (7 beats = 3 +2+2).

Basic Roopak is Tin Tin Na I Dhin Na I Dhin Na I

I think you need at least to specify the taal explaining the beats so there is no confusion in our minds as to what we are playing. Else one may think it is either Dadra or Kherwa but beats are not 6 or 8 either.

  • Thank you very much, from Spain

  • hey, what taal is this?

  • hi sir...

    wher is lesson 12

  • you are a good teacher and ur an awesome tabla player and i am also a tabla player to so keep up the good tabla playing and keep uploading videos

  • Venkat Sahib,

For years, i wanted to learn tabla's and althoug i tried, always things came up in between. After going throug your lessons and the way (a real ustaadi way) you explain the tabla language and every beat is just great. From tomorrow on (now it's almost midnight here) i will learn the tabla following your lesson. I hope i someday can share my progression with other Tabla lovers.

A Tabla admirer from living for from home...

  • would be nice to have the stress , the Sam and the kaal. Also, in the playing see a lot more ke than is written. Its a bit confusing. But i thank you for these lessons, i can now understand a little better how to start playing and practising.

  • why dont explane that's in rupaak taal , 7 beats? bol you show are very confused, beginner cant understand much

  • @71Fabrizio Yes I agree, and the bols in the sidebar are incorrectly written. It is not properly spaced between notes.

  • بهت بهت بهت بهت شکریا وینکت صاحب

بسیار بسیار بسیار زیاد تشکر از درس های شما صحت و سلامتی برای تان تمنا دارم این خد مت بزرگ است که شما انجام میدهیـــــد

  • im not being an idiot but im just looking at the realted for more lessons no more lessons?

  • Thank you very much for these introductory lessons. I've enjoyed them all! I'm a Californian, and I am interested in Tabla, and India. Your lessons have helped me appreciate the culture with more sincerity. Thanks again and please make more lessons! Great work!

  • sounds like the beggining of micheal jakson song that he would right

    HEHEHEHE

  • Hello Sir

  • Very good for practising !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thaks a lot...a was looking for a tabla's teacher...your lessons are wonderful thanks again

  • THANK YOU!!! Venkat,

You have done a tremendous job my making and posting these.

  • wers d remaing lessons.......

  • un crédible et sérieux travail, bravo.

  • It's "Tabla Lesson 11 - For beginers only" and not "tabla lesson for masters and pros". could be that he is not the best player on the world (i can't say i'm not a tabla player ) but that doesn't matter, cause he's teaching us newbies - and he's doing a great job.

  • I was wondering once someone learns the traditional Vocabulary, Is it common for the player to Improvise? I guess What I'm asking is, are these just exercises just to learn the vocab or is each sentence the full rudiment, like para-diddles or para-diddle-diddles( which are western rudiments used for phrasing and sticking patterns)?

  • its not good or bad its worse

  • Excellent. Please keep up the good work.

Please post more variations of keharwa.

  • i really appreciate you sir its very good keep it on .people are paying for these things and your teaching them free on internet its very good

  • HOW DO U DO THE ROLLS?! with 3 fingers or all 4?

  • wheres 12 13 14 etc etc? o.O

  • This fahiemjan15 is a jealous worthless type. Either put forth better videos than Venkat, or get lost you loser.

  • Can you please post some filmi boles in Dadra and Kehrwa.

  • you really shouldnt be teaching people venkat.

  • Hi venkat i really appreciate you post some more videos, why on earth people like

Fahiemjan post some nasty comments on people who's done a good job as venkat already said there may be some other styles, based on language etc ,so kindly dont post any nasty comments regarding this, if u don't like it just stay out of it.

  • hello venkat, your teaching method is absolutley great, you are cool and calm and portray this in your videos, those who play tablas regularly by different teachers may critises your methods and find it all too boring.i myself find it very interesting as i am just starting out.i would like to buy your instructional videos starting from begining, please reply.

  • It is not very good that you people are arguing over some persons hard work. What he is doing is very good and we should appreciate him for that. If you think he is wrong then that is probably a difference in your Gharana and style.

  • @yjvnz excellent comment sir

  • What do you want me to do? i just said that you should goo to a real tabla guru for your own good because i think you want to leran tabla

  • i can play this but not because of venkat but because of my guru my guru thought me the right way and venkat teaches th/e wrong way

  • I'm sure there are numerous "correct" ways. If you have a guru, and he's a true master, why on earth are you looking on YouTube for tabla videos?

  • rkrc i dont tell you too give up i tell you to goo to a guru for your own good because than you really learn tabla dont take any offense i am not someone who gives up quik and i dont like the way that you talked too mee and called me names because i havent don this too you have i?

  • Fahiemjan15, if you look at the history of tabla, you will see that as the knowledge of tabla spread, people interpretted it differently and added their own variations, and like chinese whispers the bols changed for local areas.

This my friend, Is the beauty of tabla. You are free to follow your own path, and interpret the instrument in your own way. Therefore these lessons are not wrong, but a musicians interpretation.

If the whole world thought like you, we would have an army of clones!

  • yes i can but i dont want you must take a real tabla guru who knows how to play tabla.

  • hif you really want to learn than venkat must post hundrets of vids and he also by himsle f doesnt know al these taals.

  • rkrc listen i really like youre interests to tabla and i am a student too of hamid the tabla guru it takes years too learn the tabla very well you just can learn it out of some vids i learnt i too in the beginning of venkat but now that i have a tabla guru he told me tha venkat has thought me the wrong bols i like venkat for what he does but he does it wrong and i cant post a vid because i am myself still not good and venkat isnt also assalam.

  • lolz.....u tell him rkrc....hundredz of different taals in india....maybe he could put 1 vid 4 each...lolz

  • no offense, but u r mixing things up and teaching wrong bols. ur a bad teacher.

  • youre right my uncle is a very good tabla player and he teachs me but not like venkat does,no offense

  • There's many different garanas or schools across India that show various styles and techniques. There's similar but different interpretations of how to approach and vocalize the bols depending of the region. India is a vast territory and long ago transportation wasn't as available so many regions were isolated, resulting not only in different dialects, but different languages within the country. Needless to say, all this also affected the approach of the instruments and how they were taught.

  • yes of course peaple play different over the whole world but alright i dont really like his style of playing

  • Hello, Venkat

Your videos surelly are very usefull to us the begginers in this magic instrument.

I find you explain the beats very well.

I'm a fan of tablas, and "automaticly" a learning begginer.... When i didn't have my set, i praticise over two round piece of plastic, just to get the fingers trained (lol).

Thank you so much for the lessons.

Surelly will wait for any further videos!!

    Nuno

  • That's Beautiful, nice playin', you're a good teacher!

    ;)

  • are thoes akbar miyas....

  • hey venkat,

question.where did you buy your tabla set from?

  • I bought it form Hyderabad in India

    Venkat

  • How much are they?

  • About $300 Australian + transport. The right is a heavy one made of Seesam wood.

    Regards

    Venkat

  • @vtallapragada You didn't happen to buy it from Akbar Miya and Brothers did you?

  • They can range from 100 to 400 Euros (when bought in Europe, it works out alot cheaper in india though

  • helo

can jou plzz tel my wick of the lesson are Morolie....? i can`t find them...

    tank you very mach

  • Thank you very much for posting this videos!!

    It helps me a lot.

  • Venkat, Thanks for putting these vedeos, clear to the point and are very usefull for learning tabla.

  • Thanks Venkat. These lessons helped a lott..

  • its amazing how resonant those drums are....and the bass variation is cool.

  • hi brother i wana to take the time to say thanks to you for giving great lessons of how to play tabla this has been my greatest dream to learn but never got chance now i can come home from work and try to full fil my wish... thanksssss

  • I just came accross your videos after searching for a while to see if there are any videos lessons for beginners. I really really appreciate your efforts in putting this all together. I am learning on my own too and my immediate goal is to be able to play basic tabla for bhajans. I am really hoping that you are working on posting more videos in the future.

    Thanks again.

  • hey i was wondering what ghrana you play?

  • see ur playin tin in this video right but on the other video i posted a comment sayin that ur playin it wrong lol there we go now ur playin it right

  • Thanks!

  • venkat you need a new bayan this one sounds really no clearity in sound of it when you play "tin" its should ring for quite some time

  • Thanks for viewing and your suggestion. I too noticed low sound when heard on PC. I advise you connect a good speaker system to the computer to listen to these videos. With the built in speakers of the computer or normal speakers the sound especially that of Dugga (left) is not audiable.

    Venkat

  • Wouldn't it be nice if you write your bols for each video. Let's say if you are demostrating dadra, dha dhin na dha thin na or whatever you say. It is getting difficult to understand the bol in your voice. Hope you didn't get offended. But excellent work man! Really appreciate well.

  • Thanks for the suggestion. I need to work with the videos to add titles and the boles. I will do that soon. For your info I produce my own video alone and upload.

    Thanks for viewing.

  • Venkat... i appreciate your efforts... by writing the bols, I meant you can write the bol as title of the video in youtube itself or can add as a comment.

  • Thanks for the suggestion. Now there are Bols in the descriptio for lessons 2 - 6. I will add to the rest also soon

    Venkat

  • who is ur teacher, and how long have u been learning?

  • Thanks for viewing. I have no formal learning. Been playing for the past 4 years 1-2 hrs a week. Still learning on my own. Please view the channel for more info. /vtallapragada
