what I always found good wile writing is play something get something going record it then listen to it the next day,if you can that is sometimes you gotta go back and hear what you did
@cowboycliche022 yeah exactly. I'd love for people to see a video like this of Rhianna or Katey Perry, you'd probably lose all respect for them. There is no question that these guy are real musicians who know their stuff, Mayer, Steve Jordan, and Charlie Hunter's musical knowledge is just on another level compared to anything you'll hear on popular radio.
At 2:48 is a Korg G4 Leslie rotating speaker simulator. Pretty rare now. Charlie Hunter inspired John Mayer and Joe Bonamassa to use one... and even me! :-) Downside is it uses a seperate adapter. The reason to buy it is it's the closest thing to a real Leslie 16/Fender Vibratone. I'm so lucky to have both!
Now that i think about it it sounds like a big muff or a boss ds-1. I know i will get shot down but i hate the big muff and most distortion pedals due to this overtone that i hear.
@mcmacanerni I have most certainly used a big muff. It sounded awful. I have no idea if it was my guitar or the amp i was using at the time, but it sounded like crap.
It's a fuzz pedal dude. And one of the gnarliest. It's meant to totally annihilate your tone. It loads the pickups. I understand you don't dig it, but it's nothing like a ds-1.
@julieail again, which one? either way, our of the modern reissues, the NYC is too woofy and flabby in the low end. The Black Russian is a bit muddy, unless you replace the crappy components they use.
you want a good big muff, try a good clone. The current stuff isn't that great. I like the stuff by StompUnderfoot, as far as price/quality ratio goes.
In case anyone needs to know, the pedal he's referring to is the "HARMONIX POG" which is an octave pedal.. you manipulate the different levels, then add some delay, and you've got yourself an organ! The pedal runs about $324.
Wow. all that hoopla and all they did was come up with messy version of what seems to be Traffic's "Shouldn't Have Took More Than You Gave?" Great pedals though.
wow. how much of the guitar work on the albums do you guys think that was created by charlie hunter.. it seemed that he played a significant role in the sound, the riffs and the changes... john is great, but i think there may be players like charlie who are creating all this work that no one knows aobut..
It doesnt seem like a significant part at all. Other than in repair, I dont know which if any of the other songs Charlie worked on, and as you can see JM created the intro and solo for this song, but yeah I like what hunter brought to this song. Ben Harper played on belief, but I dont know what parts he contributed to. I would say Steve Jordan, the producer of Continuum, probably had more to do with the sound than Charlie Hunter
Its extemporaneous; it means impromptu, or happening suddenly, its beause they just got together without a specific goal or knowing what would come of it. It is a good word though.
Hahaha, Steve Jordans groove is just DISGUSTIN' MAN!

Sounded like a basic distortion pedal, dont konw exactly the one they are referring to though.

Of course you know you'll get shot down because you've clearly never used a big muff. It's nothing remotely similar to a ds-1.

@julieail Definitely a fuzz pedal of some kind. Thought it actually sounded really cool. A little too rude for Mayers style though.
