  • He speaks german and french

  • une vrai implication ! +5

  • " Hehehe, c'est ca!" it's like the spice of life. Wonderful spirit.

Well. French is my first language and this part sound exactly like French. Why is it the only part I think I understand? What fuckin language is he talking?

  • @Slopies i think it could be hungarian

  • @Slopies Mainly German in the beginning of the vid.

  • @Slopies

he just communicates somehow..his brain is faster than words..:)

  • listen to the music, you could understand him better?

  • I like to listen Brahms but Georges Pretre is really fantastic

  • - Incredible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Now THAT is conducting.

  • is that a flute or a piccolo? or both?

  • Bravo, maestro Georges Pretre ! Brahms would be your friend !

  • Fantastically conducted, fantastic piece :)

  • Wonderful!!!!!

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • ... yes, this is a dance and the conductor is getting it across as such ...

  • Oh God... another BRAHMMY!

  • Admirable as video as well as audio - this conductor, with his strong rubato, is very conventional (read: old-fashioned), but also eccentric (did you ever see a conductor hold so STILL at times??!)

  • what a great maestro! A throwback to the great Bruno Walter.

  • Mr. Pretreis a wonderful conductor. A real genious. Thanks.

  • Fantastic!! simple great!! I love this conductor, the sound altogether is awesome. Thanks.

  • This is the most beautiful Hungarian Dance ^^

  • Great Maestro, Brahms is UNIQUE, UNREAL, this Dance gives me the chills in a good way. I think well, this music starts in you, then you start playing, :(.

  • Mission accomplished: this clip has been re-uploaded. Enjoy!

  • Finally! Where?

  • And thanks a lot! =)

  • I've got the 'good' version of this video which I downloaded about 2 years ago, and - believe me - is an excellent clip! I'll try to upload it here (with no disrespect to the original poster) sometime tonight if possible.

  • I REALLY need a normal version of this video! pls!

  • I'm sure there is a problem. This is a jumbled-up version of a piece which seems now to have disappeared from Youtube. In the original, Pretre wasn't speaking while the players played. They listened and responded. And Pretre spoke during the rehearsal and was silent during the performance - as you might expect.

  • Now, very interesting.

  • please re-upload this video...has a lot of problem

  • Very funny, yes.

  • We played this in orchestra and that guy sounds almost exactly like our conductor!

  • If any conductor on the planet can even be as good as to kiss the feet of Pretre, I'd love to meet him :p make sure to get his autograph too, he could hit it big time :p

Pretre did a brilliant job at the New Year's Concert in Vienna.

  • this is out of sync :( can u fix it and reupload??

  • I don't know what happens, but the video is not sync with the audio. The video goes faster. Does anybody can help me? Thanks.

  • No. The video does not go faster. It is intended to go that fast by the maker.

  • Very nice video! I just made a recording in fact of Hungarian Dance No. 1 for violin and piano. You can view it by clicking on my username, it appears on my YouTube channel. I hope you like it! Cheers,

    Nate Robinson.

  • fantastic

  • Einfach super! Wunderbar. Kompliment für alle!

    LG aus Ungarn.

  • Pfff, it makes one's flesh creep.

    Amazing.

  • Fabuloso este director. Bravo, bravísimo.

  • I dont understand what he sais but I can hear the differences makes him content or opposite.I like listening rehersals more than concerts becouse they help me to improuve my hearing and taste.Very nice video, great performance.Thanks.

  • When Music is your job... Just beautyful *o*

    I love it, so much.

  • when your life is your job...

  • Magnifico!!!

    Es un gran director!!!

  • Sehr schön! :)

  • this is the best version of this piece i've ever heard

  • Semplicemente perfetto. Chapeau, maestro.

  • Ausgezeichnet!

  • I have seen the old maestro today on the italian RAI tv's new year concerto. He was fenomenal...:-)

  • my favorite one :)

  • Perfect Hungary dance :)

  • GREAT MELODY! I am thinking of making a movie with it, heared it in Civalization 4.

  • pianisissimo ^^

  • Oh! its such a beautiful melody...just wonderful,it takes u somewhere out of this planet...

  • :D Magnifique! Très BIEN!!!

  • Wonderfull

  • i love pretre's great sense of fun! he has such a youthful spirit!

  • no one clapped at the end lol!!

  • lol thats probably because it looks like its just a rehearsal... notice how pretre is talking to them, correcting them, and how casual the muscians look in general.

  • Yes, that's probably just a rehearsal, but I've seen Pretre's concerts a lot, and he usually does that, he just can't help speaking to the musicians, and his body language is fantastic! He keeps grimacing and moving, that's very unusual for the people who attends one of his concerts for the 1st time, but he's a great director though.

  • Great! Great! Great!

    May God bless Brahms . . .

  • Brahms - it's a BOMB!!!!!!

  • Hungarian Dances=Best classical music

  • the hungarian dances do not belong to the classic, but to the romance.

  • exactly

  • @EuropeTraveller One of the most well respected romantic orchestral pieces, to correct you. :-)

  • Great!! Great!!!

    Bravo!!!!!!

    Muito bom!

  • warum läd dieses vid so schlecht...

es ist so ein tolles vid...

hmm, vllt sollte ich es downloaden

  • Leidenschaft, Sehnsucht, Drama, Freude, Herzklopfen, Schwere und leichtigkeit, Trauer und Hoffnung, tanzen wollen, Mut... mein Herz zerspringt

  • lol pianosisisisisisisimo

  • geniale...

  • I love the switch from the repitition to the final performance.

  • AMAZING conductor. He is from France and he was born in 1924. The ONLY Frenchman to ever conduct the Vienna Gala New Year's Eve concert and only HE could have done it! Check out his work at that concert also posted on You Tube. You Tube, busy smashing stereotypes -- one at a time!

  • uli22es,

Just hear the interpretation of Furtwangler!!! and maybe then you will recognize what I mean!!!

  • that was for abuhm...hehe

  • I can't even begin to express how much I love this piece of music and it was very enjoyable to hear.

I can't help but think these musicians are making his job a little too easy. He's definitely one of the more annoying conductors to watch in action.

  • My last comment was supposed to be a reply. Why does youtube these things? :s

Does anyone knows the year of this performance?

  • Georges Prêtre is a genius. With a well defined and renowned style, of that you can be sure.

  • this is Hungarian Music. but maybe u can, and know all better in life. keep so...=)

  • Eminently enjoyable and so brilliantly played. Pretre conducts like Kleiber, with a minimum of movement and no exaggeration. BRAVO.

  • brilliant :) very good...I PLAY TOO THIS SONG...I PLAY THE FLUTE...

  • i play the flute too but i don't have the notes to play it... :s it's brilliant that piece! and flute sounds awesome!!

  • I have the notes of this branle...have you got msn?

  • I have the notes of this branle...have you got msn?

  • Fantastic!!!!!!The best !!!!!!

  • lindo.

  • el wn crack

    la cago como lo ase

  • I had the great opportunity of working with this french gentleman in Madrid in 2002. He conducted Berlioz Fantastique. I'll never forget his incredible vals.

  • His joy and passion when he's directing an orchestra, their pianissimos....

    He's a genius.

  • Trappatoni...

  • I must listen this kind of music especially in the examination period, because help me in the cogitation. However generally I used to hear "techno" music.

  • GRANDE MAESTRO!!!!!! L'ultimo dei grandissimi!

  • Totally agree with you :D.

  • Love it. Takes me back at the time of the Austrio-Hungarian empire...

  • Indeed... =D

I wish I could had been part of it...

  • no trust me you don't

A good recording of the "Barbier de Séville" with Maria Callas, Luigi Alva...

May not a "prophete" in his country !!

  • why... why can't he play the song without his vocalizations... Its impossible to find an orchestra playing this on youtube..

  • The first half is a rehearsal, where stopping and talking is necessary. The second half is a complete, uninterrupted performance. Did you watch the whole thing, or did your 19 year old attention span get bored after it didn't see or hear what it wanted in less that 30 seconds?

  • cool man :)

  • j'adore lol

  • at 2:10 he says "si sol , .. hehe c'est ca, la chair de poule" (then i don't understand).. which can be translated with "B G, hehe, that's it, chicken flesh"

  • chair de poule is "Goosebumps" in english :-)

  • can anyone translate what he says ?

  • re.. do.. re.. and etc. :)

    D C D

  • Wow, extremely well conducted!

  • way to spell solfege wrong and who cares if he's using it or not this is brilliant.

  • Very nice....

    But, is he using solfedge?

  • Love this

  • Electrifying performance, thanks for posting this!

  • fantastic!!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Hier sieht man wieder einmal was ein unterschied ein guter dirigent macht!

  • Outsatnding performance and awesome conductor

  • What a musical insperation!

  • He's wonderfuuuuul!!

    Thanks!!

  • Thanks for putting that up. I love how he makes the slow parts even slower.

  • Awesome!!! I play this on the piano as a duet. Even if I don't understand the language, I can understand the meaning. Thanks!!! Great job!!!^_^

  • Very nice, thank you for posting.

I know exactly what Pretre means^^
