Well. French is my first language and this part sound exactly like French. Why is it the only part I think I understand? What fuckin language is he talking?
Admirable as video as well as audio - this conductor, with his strong rubato, is very conventional (read: old-fashioned), but also eccentric (did you ever see a conductor hold so STILL at times??!)
Great Maestro, Brahms is UNIQUE, UNREAL, this Dance gives me the chills in a good way. I think well, this music starts in you, then you start playing, :(.
I've got the 'good' version of this video which I downloaded about 2 years ago, and - believe me - is an excellent clip! I'll try to upload it here (with no disrespect to the original poster) sometime tonight if possible.
I'm sure there is a problem. This is a jumbled-up version of a piece which seems now to have disappeared from Youtube. In the original, Pretre wasn't speaking while the players played. They listened and responded. And Pretre spoke during the rehearsal and was silent during the performance - as you might expect.
If any conductor on the planet can even be as good as to kiss the feet of Pretre, I'd love to meet him :p make sure to get his autograph too, he could hit it big time :p
Pretre did a brilliant job at the New Year's Concert in Vienna.
Very nice video! I just made a recording in fact of Hungarian Dance No. 1 for violin and piano. You can view it by clicking on my username, it appears on my YouTube channel. I hope you like it! Cheers,
I dont understand what he sais but I can hear the differences makes him content or opposite.I like listening rehersals more than concerts becouse they help me to improuve my hearing and taste.Very nice video, great performance.Thanks.
lol thats probably because it looks like its just a rehearsal... notice how pretre is talking to them, correcting them, and how casual the muscians look in general.
Yes, that's probably just a rehearsal, but I've seen Pretre's concerts a lot, and he usually does that, he just can't help speaking to the musicians, and his body language is fantastic! He keeps grimacing and moving, that's very unusual for the people who attends one of his concerts for the 1st time, but he's a great director though.
AMAZING conductor. He is from France and he was born in 1924. The ONLY Frenchman to ever conduct the Vienna Gala New Year's Eve concert and only HE could have done it! Check out his work at that concert also posted on You Tube. You Tube, busy smashing stereotypes -- one at a time!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Actually, I dont like his interpretations!
Just to note that Brahms was a GERMAN composer not a French. Here, Georges Pretre, is trying to "shift" Brahms music toward the French romantic style.. and I guess he failed!
I had the great opportunity of working with this french gentleman in Madrid in 2002. He conducted Berlioz Fantastique. I'll never forget his incredible vals.
I must listen this kind of music especially in the examination period, because help me in the cogitation. However generally I used to hear "techno" music.
The first half is a rehearsal, where stopping and talking is necessary. The second half is a complete, uninterrupted performance. Did you watch the whole thing, or did your 19 year old attention span get bored after it didn't see or hear what it wanted in less that 30 seconds?
at 2:10 he says "si sol , .. hehe c'est ca, la chair de poule" (then i don't understand).. which can be translated with "B G, hehe, that's it, chicken flesh"
