Aztlan (pronounced aahz-tlan, not ach-tlan), was originally called Nawatl, or Nahuatl, meaning "nahui" - four and "atl" - water; place of the four waters, in other words where the four waters (rivers) meet. It is believed that this refers to the area where the San Juan and Colorado rivers converge in the Southwest (near the Four Corners region). Nahuatl is also the language of most central Mexico indigenous people, and is referred to in the oral tradition as the Huehue-tlahtolli - ancient word.
Excellent post! The center place of Aztlan moved from Pueblo Bonito at Chaco Canyon to what is now Aztec ruins at Aztec N.M. around 1250AD and became the astrological and calendric center( near where the confluence of the San Juan and Animas river meet at Salmon Ruins). Around this time Mesa Verde and Yellowjacket sites became majorpopulation centers of the Chaco Phenomena.
The Hopi language is part of the Uto-Aztecan laguage group.
Yes the Hopi is Uto-Aztecan as are the Comanche, Kiowa, Shoshone, Paiute, Ute and other North American languages. I got into a debate with a Kiowa friend once about the word 'peyotl;' we were discussing the sacred ceremonies and I pronounced the word as pay-yotl and he looked at me surprised. He could not believe that I had pronounced it in that way as opposed to the more common pay-yote.
The debate ensued when I told him that that was how it was pronounced in the Nahuatl tongue and that it was a Nahuatl word, and he insisted that it was a Kiowa word and that his grandpa pronounced in that way too. I left it at that.
It's good to know our history and we must encourage our kids to be the next historians of our people . Sadly their is more white people more interested in our history then our people .
Thats True Brother there are a handfull of whites that are more into our history of our past. but we need to enforce this to our next generation and give them some knowlege of who we are and where we come from.
Excellent! Or White Sands in New Mexico, which is close to the Rio Grande bosque
