The germans were already doomed to lose the war after the battle for kiev in 1941, which ruined their blitzkrieg strategy. Their only option then was a war on exhaustion, which germans would have been definitely lost. Without USA the Axis would have lost, but a decade later, with horrible consequences for USSR. Without USSR, well, germany had a chance of winning the war.

I just don't buy that the Soviet Union could have handled Japan and Germany at their peak without the US's assistance. In any case, I think we are in agreeance that the situation would have been much worse for the US or Soviet Union if the other had not been there to help.

If the allies would have invaded, the conservative estimate is that 500k Britons would have died, 1 million Americans would have died, and over 10 million Japanese would have died. These bombs combined killed less then 250,000 Japanese. So yes we prevented a massacre of historic proportion through these bombings.

The generally accepted conservative estimate is 1 million dead for the US, 500k dead for the United Kingdom, and over 10 million would have died for Japan. Realistically, those all would have been much higher, especially Japan and their civilian death count. With the bombs, the US and UK lost none, and Japan only suffered 150,000 casualties. Now it isn't so bad when you look at it logically, is it?

The germans were already doomed to lose the war after the battle for kiev in 1941, which ruined their blitzkrieg strategy. Their only option then was a war on exhaustion, which germans would have been definitely lost. Without USA the Axis would have lost, but a decade later, with horrible consequences for USSR. Without USSR, well, germany had a chance of winning the war.

And I never said the US is to credit for the Germans defeat, I assumed everybody knew that I meant Japan. Without the US, Japan would have conquered Asia and eventually moved on to Russia, and there is no way in hell that Russia could've handle Germany and Japan at the same time. Without the US, the Allies surely would have lost, as is the case if Russia hadn't fought.

But, imagine for example, that USSR forces are pushed to Urals and all western and southern russia is occupied. How could germans manage to transport supplies through vast unexplored spaces, with a constant menace of partisans, who destroy railways in order to hinder german supply lines. They would simply lack the men to protect them.

England provided soviet union with materials, that it needed greatly. 3/4 of the equipment that produced t-34 was english-made. Studebakers and Willys were so widely-spread that they were main personell carriers in soviet army. Japanese military was much less powerful then german, but they could be a challenge for soviet troops, should they join the land war.

That makes no sense. The US already had Japan pinned down, this was just the knockout punch. We could have won the war through invasion, but why sacrifice the lives of millions of our own we could do this? This ended the war, and saved more British, American, and Japanese lives in the process. And how are you going to call us dumb when we were the first to develop the atomic bomb? It isn't so much we saved lives, but we prevented a slaughter. If the allies would have invaded, the conservative estimate is that 500k Britons would have died, 1 million Americans would have died, and over 10 million Japanese would have died. These bombs combined killed less then 250,000 Japanese. So yes we prevented a massacre of historic proportion through these bombings.

ok im from the united states. we went over world war 2 in history today. that just isnt fair...in pearl harbour, about 1000 people died...we dropped 2 bombs on japan killing tens of thousands more. that is just not fair...i feel more sorry for the japanese people than the americans:(

@xprimale Do some more research bro, At first I thought the Americans were evil for doing it but I learnt more of what the Japanese did, they killed 30 million people during WW2 and their crimes are equal to the Nazi's yet they never faced justice. Now the Japanese imperial flag can be found on t-shirts and shoes. Also remember the bomb was not dropped on Tokyo sparring and the US had no idea it would work. It was a rushed effort out of desperation to win the war.

@TheDrSurgeon thank you for the information, but im pretty sure your "30 million killed" statistic is wrong. hitler had killed around 12 million people, and stalin about 20 million. hitler and stalin accounted for the large majority of causalities in world war 2. i learnt that tojo killed around 5 million people, so hes further down there with mussolini.

@xprimale No problem about sharing my knowledge, but honestly roughly 30 million people were killed by the Japanese alone about 2 thirds being Chinese, Also many of Stalin's crimes are not counted as WW2 losses as the USSR was an ally at the time. Many Japanese war crimes are forgotten about so maybe the 5 million you learnt is Soldier losses? obviously not just American soldiers but others as well. I dunno ill research it some more...

Have you guys ANY idea of the casualties that would have ensued had the allies invaded? The generally accepted conservative estimate is 1 million dead for the US, 500k dead for the United Kingdom, and over 10 million would have died for Japan. Realistically, those all would have been much higher, especially Japan and their civilian death count. With the bombs, the US and UK lost none, and Japan only suffered 150,000 casualties. Now it isn't so bad when you look at it logically, is it?

Not only that, but Japan had given all of their civilians basic military training for the impending invasion. Am I still being illogical? First, there was no need for such invasion as Japan would surrender by the end of the year anyway. Second, even if the invasion did take place, the potential US military losses were estimated by the US government at 40,000 max. Truman did have other options, but was unwilling to use them so he came up with political lies which feed the mainstream US public till nowadays.

The soldiers wouldn't just surrender they would fight to their death and would run at a bunker with their bare hands. The victims felt no pain as they were dust before a nerve could send a pain impulse to the brain. The bombs were only a test anyway they didn't know if they would work...
