  • I LOVE WIND TURBINES xxx

  • yeah! squarepusher

  • My son loves this clip.. We watch it ten times a day=)

    make more

  • Cool music!!!!!!!!!

  • Elecricity generation and distribution professional engineers with years of 'hands on' experience tell us that wind as as source of electricity generation is a fallacy. Here in the UK .... EU money fuels the greed for large scale wind turbines and has totally distorted any sane scientific discussion. Fact based on knowledge not 'green' whimsy.

  • Royd Moor has been generating power commercially since 1993.

  • Wind goes in, megawatts come out, where's the fallacy?

For the last time, it's nothing to do with the EU.

There are very few valid objections to this source of electricity, most of them can be traced back to fear of change or nimbyism.

  • Richardyingren...strange comment to make - windfarms DO produce many MW of electricity and do so economically. Do you really think that windfarms in the UK are 100% subsidised by EU / government money and are there for decoration? Your "Facts based on knowledge" make me think you don't know very much about the subject, still..on an open forum everyone has a voice.

  • Presumably by saying "EU money fuels the greed..." you are referring to the Renewables Obligation. In fact 07/08 was the only year since the RO's introduction in 2002 that onshore wind received the largest share of ROCs. Even then wind received only 2% more ROCs than landfill gas (30% vs 28%). Therefore you should equally state EU money fuels the greed for landfill gas electricity. Personally I would say its a wise investment.

  • we need to live in harmony with the enviornment we are provided , the more we manipulate the world around us for our benefit, the more problems will arise because of that, much like how we have harnessed the power of fire and manipulated it into combustion engines the result is breakdowns and pollution, costing more dollars and more energy, with wind we are harnessing a clean resource that will always be present,

  • Both nuclear plants and wind turbines are safer then continuing to give billions to the middle east, think about it.

  • Yeah - I think there's a green case for another look at nuclear. It's not without its problems but I think it's time to re-examine the idea.

Unfortunately I don't think there'll ever be a rational debate about it because so many people start hyperventilating the minute you even mention the words.

  • wind turbines are so abstract looking and beautiful, looks like something from a different planet/

  • nice piece of Squaerepusher

  • I think all these ppl who say that wind turbines are stupid, need to get their head out of their asses, coal is not going to last very long, and most of our other primary resources aren't going to last long, at least this way we are trying to get off of Fossil Fuels. Its a small step but it is a step.

  • hey, lookin good GF.

Everyone else - check my wind power vids...

  • Way to trash your country! Good job, idiots!

  • what on earth are you powering your computer with? Magic?

  • Well the farm I live on does in fact have five 6 megawatt towers, and we do get money from the company to have them their AND FREE POWER FOR MY COMPUTER (and the barn)!!! Tax payers in North Brookfield also no longer need to pay to power the school or water facility. So that bill is gone too and the power company gets to sell the rest to NYC. The subsidies run out in 2010 when we are exposed to reach "grid parallelity". Thats when wind will be as expensive as coal. Which is why subsidies exist!

  • You get your power from the Grid, the school and water treatment plant do to and the Wind Company simply pays the bills. Wind power is more expensive than coal, which is why these wind turbines need political support. Wind power gets more expensive as more wind power is added, too! In a free market they would not exist. You are just being paid off to help the wind company scammers bleed the snake. You're stuck with the deal now though, so I guess I'm happy that you like wind mills.

  • you really don't know how NYs grid works. Its from the late 1800s and it very decentralized. It varies from village to village. So NYC is constantly building power lines to suck villages dry of their cheep power. This happened to us about 2 years ago. The wind mills supplement the extra drain from the city. Could our village pay for them? Of course not! but fuck it. Oil is connected to all commodities, and were at peak. Trust me, wind is going to be very cheep in comparison shortly. Thank china.

  • Are they under load?. Yes? Then how are they useless? Looking at the embedded energy to build and maintain them might be an argument, but I am not convinced of anything by what you say above. Is a coal plant with a reduced load using less coal? I have heard these arguments and am curios. Are you an plant operator? Talking with one not long ago, he told me his plant can cycle fairly rapidy, not as fast as gas, but reasonable fast. Is there a plant/plant communications system across country?.

  • This is one of my favorite squarepusher songs of all time. Wind power is good to.

  • good stuff. I visited here the other day. A great wind farm. Check out my wind power vids.

  • PS The music is great, and very fitting.

  • Thanks Rach - it was picked because it was exactly the same length as the clip I'd edited. Sweet serendipity!

I was back up at this place yesterday at sunset. It was a beautiful afternoon, and really windy up there so the turbines were zooming round at a fair old rate. Awe inspiring!

  • Horrible....

  • Hey GFantasic, can send me some of this clip? I am making a video for chemistry about using Wind as an Alternative Energy, so this video would be perfect for voice overs or something. Write back on my channel wall or just respond to this post if you could. Thanks

  • I like wind farms too, but I always wonder why they don't paint them a different colour to blend in with the surroundings better. For example, brown 'trunks' and green sails, so they'd look like strange trees. Does anyone know of a reason why they HAVE to be white? Maintenace costs? I honestly would like to know.

  • Thats sweet.Extra energy to help your country stay strong. The last time I saw that many props in a english field was in the american movie 12 oclock high.I'm wanting to put some down on the farm myself.

  • Dude this is freaking awesome!!!!!!! 5 stars

  • Thanks for this - I walked up to Ovenden Moor wind farm in Halifax yesterday - I love the futuristic feel to these and damn those fuddy-duddies that say "NO" to them - they're stupid and don't appreciate the practical reasons for putting these up. They're beautiful and create an eerie, peaceful atmosphere away from traffic noise.

    Yipfat
