@ComptechTypeS Look at where it made the power, peak power is 18, average is the 5-6 you see. "Heatsoak" on a dyno with poor airflow is one thing, intake temps when rolling on an actual road is another. There's plenty of air flowing in the engine bay that it's on a few degrees above ambient once rolling. This intake doesn't make it's power by being a "cold Air", it makes it from the resonant tuning in the tube.
@Crowcaine77 You should watched it on the dyno before "spewing" your own garbage! AEM has a room full of engineers that have already disproved you. Do you have airflow modeling software, a flow bench and a dyno to prove them wrong, or are you a keyboard jockey?
18hp+ with just cold air intake on a 2L engine? How is that possible? I know that 4L BMW V8 won't get more than 5hp with intake modd! For Christ sake, a BMW E46 CSL version had to get modded intake, camshaft AND remap to boost power 20hp on a 3,2 V6!!! With this AEM claim, I smell BS. Proove me wrong, though...
@Symbrio Check out the dyno, the stock intake doesn't flow well at high RPM, and falls off. The AEM keeps making power after the stock one drops off and thus the 18hp#. It averages 5-6hp through most of the range, but at high RPM, it pulls through. Newer cars have better flowing intakes, and sometimes it is very difficult to make more than a handful of HP. Fortunately the RSX responds well to an intake.
@AEMonly I'm still skeptical. Just as K&N claims min 20hp gain on a LS2 motor. I just can't buy it. A lot of my friends try to mod the M62 (isn't that new, 4,4L BMW, 280hp/320hp redesigned; 2000 models) with K&N, and all they got was better throttle response and nicer sound. With cold intake, replaced headers and freeflow exhaust, plus preformance chip, they got 20hp TOPS! And it's a big V8! And according to K&N they should gain well over 15hp just on intake. Yeah right!
@Symbrio Cars like the acura are made to be modded. BMW on the other hand is made with premium parts not meant to be messed with therefore making it much harder to enhance.
@lukasrz1984 BMW sucks? waaa? saying BMW sucks because intake mods dont increase HP as much is kinda silly. thats like saying honda sucks because exaust upgrades dont increase HP as much as exaust upgrades for camaros.
No offence but what does sound waves going threw a intake matter with being a short or long ram/cold air intake...? I never knew that sound gave you HP.. Just like them stickers.. them give HP depending on the adhesive/size/color/style/brand too... ? lol
@21fuzz21 you think sound has nothing to do with airflow? pay closer attention in school kid. look up "rubens tube" you'll see sound does effect airflow.

@TheAldo18 They where about 200-300ish 2 years ago and probably still around the same.. it's a high priced but sounds very decent. I had the V2 b4 I put my exhaust on my car and just the intake alone made it really loud and a bit of a difference tho

AEM or Weapon-R secret weapon intake for an Acura 2002 RSX?? which one gives it a better performance...does it matter if its a cold air intake or not? i need help plz..
@77Poisoned77 You are correct, 18HP seems like a lot. But in this case the 18HP is at the very top, where the stock intake starts to drop and the AEM keeps pulling. So it doesn't give 18 HP over the entire range, but at the very top end. This is why we posted the dyno, too.
ya i live in oregon where it rains a lot and i had a ame cold air intake that came out right in front of the left wheel after about a month the whole filter was soaking wet and really really dirty..... not a good set up it you live where it rains lol.....
@fuzzy455 When AEM designs the intakes, they are inside the fender well behind the splash guard. If you filter gets that wet, it sounds like the fender liner either got moved or all the screws weren't put back in place when it was installed. The good news is the filter getting wet doesn't impact the ability to filter at all, and it getting wet won't make the engine suck up water - you have to nearly submerge the filter to get the engine to suck up water - and you can always clean the filter.
@1PARADOXXX Nope, just the cold air. One of the guys here at the shop has that intake on his truck, loves the sound and power, plus gets an extra 1-2MPG on the freeway.
Do they make the aem v2 in cold air? Because the guy giving the review says it isn't in the video and on aemonly website says the product is cold air? Some reassurance would be grateful before I make a decision to purchase.
@ doo71 It depends on the vehicle. Some is does, some it does not. If it makes a difference, AEM made a heat shield. On some vehicles, there's enough air swirling in the engine bay or it's far away enough from the radiator that it doesn't make a difference.
I want to know which intake i should install in my 2005 Honda Accord LX. I see u know science behind the intake. I just need your opinion on what should i get???
Yeah i want to know the exact range of horsepower gain you get from this intake. If it can get close to 18 horse power that make my mod job half way done. All I'm looking for is a 40-50hp increase to my base DC5.
@steisje Check the link to the dyno in the info section on the top right (you'll need to click "more info")... The V2 makes 10-12 most of the way to redline, but where the stock intake tops out and the power rolls over the V2 keeps the power up and it rises to 18 at redline.
Just got this. I just looked at this video and noticed the small tube cable ontop of the engine was completely removed. I think this was the cause of the air filter and thermo intake valve hitting up against stuff..
Is this thing street legal in california? I noticed it makes no mentioned of it anywhere. Other AEM short ram products state 50 state legal or pending legal
@AEMonly Man, I just installed the V2 intake. My Air filter is hitting the top of the transmission and my thermo intake valve is pressing up against the throttle cables. I never noticed my engine has no real estate... Any ideas? Its as tight as it goes. the zip ties really helped.
Cool. I hope to get this installed this month. What would be the next step in updating my Acura RSX Type S? It has 112k miles, just did a complete tune up, spark plugs, timing belts, engine flush, water pump and the good stuff... My friend was telling me picking up headers would help. $250 investments, then the exhaust system comes next? Please forgive my ignorance... I'm just getting into the car scene... I need to play grand turismo or something...
@AEMonly Another thing I noticed in your video, you have the 3 house clamps on the v2 intake, the instructions state to put them on the throttle body...
Is this the most recommended one? I like how the filter sits because I live in Ohio, lots of snow and rain and crap I don't need to risk getting my engine locked up lol. I have a 2003 Acura RSX Type-S
This is a great intake for the RSX Type-S, FWIW AEM just released a prefilter that covers the filter and keeps excessive dirt and water off the filter element.
no heatshield? might be going with injen not hating on aem but my buddy has one on his type-s and its nice as fuk and gave him a good performance boost.
Once moving the temps drop underhood to near ambient. This was shown on a dyno by not running a fan vs running a fan. Since AEM found no difference in power with or without the heatshield at speed, they did not add one to keep costs down.
not trying to be a ball breaker but i have a question. iv read alot that if you put a new intake it reduces power and increases gas consumption, because the engine was designed for the intake that the engine was built to have... i want to know
1. dose it increase hp and tourque (not the marketing b.s the real gain or loss)
2. if my gas consumption will change at all
3. is it worth it if im not really doing anything big to my car just want some more power for a low price
1). AEM's dyno sheets are repeatable on any dyno. Simply put, if AEM tests an intake and it didn't make power, it didn't get produced.
2). At cruising speeds on the highway, like under cruise control. My personal truck used to get 14 MPG, and now I am seeing 15-16 mpg. However, if you are mashing the throttle to hear the intake, you won't be saving any gas...
3). On most cars the two best things to increase HP are intake and header.
Does your car have an throttle cable or an electric throttle body? - i dont have any idea:) So that AEM 24-6105 how much HP can add? about. I have better exhaust, but dont know what mark - old owner made it.
Hey I just bought an 02 base model rsx, can I still get this intake? Or is it exclusively for the type-s? From what I've seen the only difference between the two engine is the type-s is higher compression. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The non-Type S (like yours) uses the 24-6105, the Type S uses the 24-6106. The difference being the size of the throttle body, non-Type S one is 2 3/4" and the Type S is 3", they do look identical at first glance though.
Hey AEMonly I have a 00 civic EX with a b16a2 swap. And I wanted to if you could give me a ball park estimate of how much I may be putting to the ground. The head is mildly built with stage 2 crane cams blox valve springs retainers etc buddy club cam gears AEM V2 edlebrock header, throttle body, megan racing catback exhuast and apexi VAFC-2. I would take it to a tune shop but the ones here in NC kinda suck so im told lol.
Straight up you are wrong, it does give 18HP on the non-throttle by wire RSX TypeS. We tested several and the dyno didn't lie. Please read the dyno sheet. On later RSXs it averaged arond 8-10 hp. As for the expense, try to manufacture a 50 state legal intake and sell it for less than the AEM, testing for each is a HUGE expense.
Most will say short runner length is better for high RPM, and long runners are good for lower rpm. But that is for *intake manifold* runner length (after the throttle body). Intake tube size (diameter and length) depends on the throttle body size, intake plenum volume and intake runner length. Depending on the car, sometimes a short ram intake makes the best power, other times it's a cold air. V2 intakes make power on both the top and bottom end due to having two intake sizes and sizes at work.
Maybe a little of both. HP is derived from this formula: HP = (torque * RPM) / 5252. Maybe you are asking if you'd see more low end vs top end? We'd say maybe a little of both, but your stock intake has some restrictions and compromises in the design (fitment and sound for example) that adding just a filter to won't correct.
I got a Question I have a 94 accord, Stock F22b2 motor in there, i got the intake, but am gonna swap my motor to a H22 very soon, will it still fit in with the swap? or did i just wasted money on my old engine intake......please get back me Thanks Bimbo831
I did NOT get 18 HP out of this intake and it is really pricey I think for an intake. I bought it anyways and did a dyno pull and got about 8hp but then again that is not moving down the road. But when I dyno'd it was VERY cold outside and in the shop so I think all in all it wasn't really worth it but I am stuck with it now. But then again I am glad that sense the run off is so bad here cause of rain I can feel comfortable with driving down the road in the rain and not worry about water lock.
If you did the dyno pull back to back, the car's self-learning may not have had time to adjusted to the new intake (Same goes for say, cam shaft installs). If this is the case the cars power "creeps" up over several days so there may not be a sudden, one time "jump" in power. We have found disconnecting the battery can reset the ECU and get the results as advertised. Also, different years respond differently, newer RSXs have throttle by wire and don't see as large an increase in power.
Your 2006 RSX is throttle by wire, and unfortunately they do not get as much HP from the V2 as the first 2 years did (the dyno is for a 2002 or 2003 RSX). Check the dyno sheet in the "more info" in the upper right. If your dyno shop did it right, outside air temp should not come into play between dyno runs as all that can be corrected.
what do u call the part where u connect the main pipe of the intake system to? like that hose? im asking so i can look up the size variations for 05 and 06 s2000, cus the apparently only make V2 for 00-05 s2000 and i was wondering if i can buy one for my 06 s2000, so anyone got any ideas?
whale penis intake is uselessa friend did a comparison run on the dyno w/ the whale penis and also the AEM...engine temp outside temp was consistent...whale gave a +2whp gain AEM gave +7whp
The V2 sucked water up on my GSR, and hydrolocked it.... :-( Its okay though because I did a whole swap from a '98 JDM b18c-R to replace the GSR. Now I just run the AEM CAI for the R and I put the stocker back on for the winter. I also cut the pipe in half so I have the option to run a short ram or the full CAI.
Hey AEMonly im i want to get the AEM V2 for my 04 acura TL 6-speed manual but i hear you guys dont make it and that i have to order the one you guys make for the 2003-2007 honda accord V-6. Is this true? also whats a safe website i can order your V2 CAI off of?
becuz i remember i used to have it on my old 98 one when i first bought the base model prelude and it doesn't come with the dry air flow. and all i remember was a wave sound effect larger sound than the cold air one. and i do notices the torque and all and i just want to know will the type s intake do the samething? becuz of the outer pattern all most exactly alike except the boxy shape of the intake pipe that all to the v2 round pipe. ??? aemonly..reply please....
like how much hp will i get if i just put on that intake, camshafts, and stock type s throttle body? the throttle body is 60mm stock and the type s is 62 mm??? all total hp???
i just bought this prelude on sept 2. and i just bought this type s intake with knn filter drop in..so if i add on the type s stock camshafts, it will run perfect for my car and smog pass??? reply back.
i have a question aemonly, i have a stock type s bb6 jdm air intake chamber for my 00 prelude type sh and i want to know how much hp will i get with this honda genuine intake???
There's really no way to tell unless someone has dynoed that intake on the same motor with the same modifications. It may not make much difference until you get cams, in which case the bigger plenum volume will respond to the bigger cams more than the stock manifold. Good luck!
can you give me a legit AEM site

Close to 18hp gain from a filter? Sounds to good to be true... Any dyno comfirming this?
steisje 1 year ago 2
@steisje Check the link to the dyno in the info section on the top right (you'll need to click "more info")... The V2 makes 10-12 most of the way to redline, but where the stock intake tops out and the power rolls over the V2 keeps the power up and it rises to 18 at redline.
AEMonly 1 year ago
Ok sorry about that. :) Did not see the link.
steisje 1 year ago
Does this fit a 06 RSX Type S? Is there one that is made for an 06?? Seen only for 02-04 type s. Does anyone have a 06 with this intake??
lyndonyang 1 year ago
Just got this. I just looked at this video and noticed the small tube cable ontop of the engine was completely removed. I think this was the cause of the air filter and thermo intake valve hitting up against stuff..
cpmethod2 1 year ago
I prefer a ram air system, as speed goes up so does the air feed..Be nice if the pipes were adjustable like on the Rotarys...
JaxxBat 1 year ago
Is this thing street legal in california? I noticed it makes no mentioned of it anywhere. Other AEM short ram products state 50 state legal or pending legal
cpmethod2 1 year ago
Yes it is C.A.R.B. approved.

@AEMonly Man, I just installed the V2 intake. My Air filter is hitting the top of the transmission and my thermo intake valve is pressing up against the throttle cables. I never noticed my engine has no real estate... Any ideas? Its as tight as it goes. the zip ties really helped.
cpmethod2 1 year ago
@AEMonly
but the filter is very close to the engine, wouldn't it just be sucking up hot air
pmic2011 1 year ago
I need to play grand turismo or something...
cpmethod2 1 year ago
1.) no such thing as timing belts on rsx.
you're either thinking the accessory serpentine belt. or the timing CHAIN
2.) it's a 4 cylinder- there's only one header. but yes that would be next and more than 250. followed by exhaust.
3.) you may want to consider suspension- coilovers or dampers and springs. as well as tires if your's aren't good.
slam4444444444444444 1 year ago 2
@AEMonly Another thing I noticed in your video, you have the 3 house clamps on the v2 intake, the instructions state to put them on the throttle body...
cpmethod2 1 year ago
Does any one know what kind of exhaust i should put on my 02 type -s that fits mu $300 budget and i don want a a shattery noice.
btnh18 1 year ago
Hey I have this intake in my 03 RSX S and the intake filter barely touches the transmission. Is this normal?
XenomorphLV426 1 year ago
It comes close, but shouldn't touch. Try loosening the intake by the throttle body and push the filter off then re-tighten the clamp on the intake.
AEMonly 1 year ago
i have a 2002 type-s and In order for my car to get the 18hp do i have to tune the car? and what kind of exhaust do u recommend?
btnh18 1 year ago
Is this the most recommended one? I like how the filter sits because I live in Ohio, lots of snow and rain and crap I don't need to risk getting my engine locked up lol. I have a 2003 Acura RSX Type-S
MikeHuntIsItchy 1 year ago
This is a great intake for the RSX Type-S, FWIW AEM just released a prefilter that covers the filter and keeps excessive dirt and water off the filter element.
AEMonly 1 year ago
@AEMonly - what kind of power should I expect to the WHEELS with just bolting it on at home and running it vs factory intake.
MikeHuntIsItchy 1 year ago
Check the "more info" link to the upper right, on a 2002-2003 RSX Type S this intake make 18Hp. The later RSXs it made around 10HP.
AEMonly 1 year ago
@AEMonly - dang that's pretty sexy, I'll be picking this one for sure.
MikeHuntIsItchy 1 year ago
no heatshield? might be going with injen not hating on aem but my buddy has one on his type-s and its nice as fuk and gave him a good performance boost.
thehulk305 1 year ago
Once moving the temps drop underhood to near ambient. This was shown on a dyno by not running a fan vs running a fan. Since AEM found no difference in power with or without the heatshield at speed, they did not add one to keep costs down.
AEMonly 1 year ago
can some1 answer me? How much HP this AEM intake can gives to K20A3 engine in RSX? Just write the number, about
R3SUM3 2 years ago
It depends on what car it is in and what year that car is...
"Does your car have an throttle cable or an electric throttle body? "
AEMonly 1 year ago
not trying to be a ball breaker but i have a question. iv read alot that if you put a new intake it reduces power and increases gas consumption, because the engine was designed for the intake that the engine was built to have... i want to know
1. dose it increase hp and tourque (not the marketing b.s the real gain or loss)
2. if my gas consumption will change at all
3. is it worth it if im not really doing anything big to my car just want some more power for a low price
Thanks for the help
NorwegianNightmare88 2 years ago
No balls being busted, you have good questions!
Answers:
AEMonly 2 years ago
Does your car have an throttle cable or an electric throttle body? - i dont have any idea:) So that AEM 24-6105 how much HP can add? about. I have better exhaust, but dont know what mark - old owner made it.
R3SUM3 2 years ago
Hey I just bought an 02 base model rsx, can I still get this intake? Or is it exclusively for the type-s? From what I've seen the only difference between the two engine is the type-s is higher compression. Correct me if I'm wrong.
papertigers426 2 years ago
The non-Type S (like yours) uses the 24-6105, the Type S uses the 24-6106. The difference being the size of the throttle body, non-Type S one is 2 3/4" and the Type S is 3", they do look identical at first glance though.
AEMonly 2 years ago
i have question - i have rsx k20a3 (119kw) + the same aem intake in movie, how much HP can it gives about?

AEMonly 2 years ago
Hey AEMonly I have a 00 civic EX with a b16a2 swap. And I wanted to if you could give me a ball park estimate of how much I may be putting to the ground. The head is mildly built with stage 2 crane cams blox valve springs retainers etc buddy club cam gears AEM V2 edlebrock header, throttle body, megan racing catback exhuast and apexi VAFC-2. I would take it to a tune shop but the ones here in NC kinda suck so im told lol.

8hp @6100 rpm and 10 ft/lb at 4100. Lots of great midrange!
AEMonly 2 years ago
there is no way this will give 18 hp it is very pricey all in all it really isnt worth it bit it is a good product bit way to expensive.
eastwestlover 2 years ago
Straight up you are wrong, it does give 18HP on the non-throttle by wire RSX TypeS. We tested several and the dyno didn't lie. Please read the dyno sheet. On later RSXs it averaged arond 8-10 hp. As for the expense, try to manufacture a 50 state legal intake and sell it for less than the AEM, testing for each is a HUGE expense.
AEMonly 2 years ago
whats better, smaller diameter tube and longer or larger diameter tube and shorter?
afgthug7 2 years ago
Most will say short runner length is better for high RPM, and long runners are good for lower rpm. But that is for *intake manifold* runner length (after the throttle body). Intake tube size (diameter and length) depends on the throttle body size, intake plenum volume and intake runner length. Depending on the car, sometimes a short ram intake makes the best power, other times it's a cold air. V2 intakes make power on both the top and bottom end due to having two intake sizes and sizes at work.
AEMonly 2 years ago
i need a aem intake for my 04 sentra spec v. what price ranges am i looking at?
trillakilla 2 years ago
$280 for a cold air and $180 for the short ram, both are 50 state legal.
AEMonly 2 years ago
I have my AEM (filter only) attached to my STOCK intake tubing(black hose). So would mine be making more Torque instead of HP?
JDMEXforme 2 years ago
Maybe a little of both. HP is derived from this formula: HP = (torque * RPM) / 5252. Maybe you are asking if you'd see more low end vs top end? We'd say maybe a little of both, but your stock intake has some restrictions and compromises in the design (fitment and sound for example) that adding just a filter to won't correct.
AEMonly 2 years ago
I got a Question I have a 94 accord, Stock F22b2 motor in there, i got the intake, but am gonna swap my motor to a H22 very soon, will it still fit in with the swap? or did i just wasted money on my old engine intake......please get back me Thanks Bimbo831
bimbo831 2 years ago
It may, but it's hard to tell due to what is in the engine bay and where the throttle body is.
AEMonly 2 years ago
I did NOT get 18 HP out of this intake and it is really pricey I think for an intake. I bought it anyways and did a dyno pull and got about 8hp but then again that is not moving down the road. But when I dyno'd it was VERY cold outside and in the shop so I think all in all it wasn't really worth it but I am stuck with it now. But then again I am glad that sense the run off is so bad here cause of rain I can feel comfortable with driving down the road in the rain and not worry about water lock.
blueswasted6768 2 years ago
If you did the dyno pull back to back, the car's self-learning may not have had time to adjusted to the new intake (Same goes for say, cam shaft installs). If this is the case the cars power "creeps" up over several days so there may not be a sudden, one time "jump" in power. We have found disconnecting the battery can reset the ECU and get the results as advertised. Also, different years respond differently, newer RSXs have throttle by wire and don't see as large an increase in power.
AEMonly 2 years ago
Your 2006 RSX is throttle by wire, and unfortunately they do not get as much HP from the V2 as the first 2 years did (the dyno is for a 2002 or 2003 RSX). Check the dyno sheet in the "more info" in the upper right. If your dyno shop did it right, outside air temp should not come into play between dyno runs as all that can be corrected.
AEMonly 2 years ago
So for the 2006 Type S how much horsepower would be gained from that intake?
brandontoscano 2 years ago
We have seen 8-12 hp on the throttle by wire cars.
AEMonly 2 years ago
FUCK YEAH .18 horsepower!

what do u call the part where u connect the main pipe of the intake system to? like that hose? im asking so i can look up the size variations for 05 and 06 s2000, cus the apparently only make V2 for 00-05 s2000 and i was wondering if i can buy one for my 06 s2000, so anyone got any ideas?
davidzzz94 2 years ago
Watch for a new V2 to come out very soon for your 2006 S2K...
AEMonly 2 years ago
but like do u actually have any idea if its coming out soon? cus after i learned about the V2, im pretty sure this is the only one i want
davidzzz94 2 years ago
AEM has had several models of S200s in lately doing more development on the S2K, so a new V2 is definitely coming out for the 2006 and up models.

The V2 sucked water up on my GSR, and hydrolocked it.... :-( Its okay though because I did a whole swap from a '98 JDM b18c-R to replace the GSR. Now I just run the AEM CAI for the R and I put the stocker back on for the winter. I also cut the pipe in half so I have the option to run a short ram or the full CAI.

but how much horsepower will the v2 gain on the 00 prelude???
Tommaxboost310 2 years ago
like how much hp will i get if i just put on that intake, camshafts, and stock type s throttle body? the throttle body is 60mm stock and the type s is 62 mm??? all total hp???
Tommaxboost310 2 years ago
i just bought this prelude on sept 2. and i just bought this type s intake with knn filter drop in..so if i add on the type s stock camshafts, it will run perfect for my car and smog pass??? reply back.
Tommaxboost310 2 years ago
i have a question aemonly, i have a stock type s bb6 jdm air intake chamber for my 00 prelude type sh and i want to know how much hp will i get with this honda genuine intake???
Tommaxboost310 2 years ago
There's really no way to tell unless someone has dynoed that intake on the same motor with the same modifications. It may not make much difference until you get cams, in which case the bigger plenum volume will respond to the bigger cams more than the stock manifold. Good luck!

Try outerwearsracing(dot)com. They have covers that do not restrict air flow and help keep water off the filter.
