  • Hi! I have a retired guide dog, an 85 lb. male black lab. He is 14 years old now. He has been diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and has had 6 cups of fluid drained from his stomach. He has since been on Enacard (not sure if that is spelled correctly) 20 mg twice a day for his heart and lasix 50 mg (up from 20 mg) twice per day, a diuretic. The vet also recommended asprin. Is it ok to give him Hawthorn Berries too? And if so..how many 565 mg capsules per day? Thank you so much!

  • @muddbyrd I think the Hawthorne would help. I would give him one capsule a day and I would give it by itself. I would be careful with the aspirin, I'd use baby aspirin. I hope he feels better.

  • so this is better than lasix and dioxin?

  • No they all do different things. Lasix removes water from the lungs, digoxin helps the heart by making the electolytes function differently and hawthorne helps by bringing more blood to the heart muscle. @kuwaizair

  • Hi, Was your dog on any other prescribed heart meds? I guess I'm trying to find out if it's ok to do both - prescribed meds and hawthorn. Many thanks your video.

  • Yes, it's especially good for an enlarged heart. I would also give you dog the supplement Co Q10. That really helps with circulation in the body and to the heart itself. Good luck with you dog.
