We completely defeated the taliban in only a couple of months right after 9/11. We then decided to hand over security to an international coalition and went about winning in Iraq. We didn't do a good enough job of raising the Afghan security forces quickly enough and NATO forces were incompetent so the taliban slowly crept back into Afghanistan and started to take over a couple rural areas of the country and create strongholds over the population. We can beat them again just like in 2002.

But this time we'll have learned from our mistakes and will make sure that the taliban can't come back. We spend less than $100 billion in Afghanistan every year. $100 billion is far less than 1% of our $14 trillion annual GDP. Most of those "bases" only have a few people in them and exist for perfectly legitimate reasons. People WANT us there.

We don't know the money, and are spending more then we can afford. In 1921, we had a ressesion depression to pay for the bills of WW1. We quickly liquidated the debt, and the malinvestment disappeared. That depression lasted 1 year. Then Hoover and FDR come along, and do the opposite, and spend like crazy, and FDR even confiscated the peoples gold. That depression lasted 10 years. And ww2 did not end it. It was until after ww2, when we started to cut spending.

We've pulled out of the cities of Iraq which were the prime targets for ambushes and American deaths, the Iraqi forces have all but taken over the countries security.
