  • I am glad I read her autobiography.......she starts it out with "I have about 60 years to tell you about.......

  • Helen Forrest was the best girl band singer of the swing era.........Flawless.

Artie Shaw AND Benny Goodman thought so...........'nuff said.

  • Helen sang with Artie, Benny, & Harry and never made a bad recording with any of them. The lady had class !

  • There was a slew of great band vocalists but none topped Helen Forest.

  • Helen Forrest <3

ahhh that trumpet in the big band songs (and this one) ahh i just love it

i would give anything to have the big band era back...

  • I love Helen's voice!

  • She is without a doubt my most loved vocalist. If I had a time machine, one of the first things I'd is go back to see her. I love her with all my heart, I do.

Do yourselves a favor and get her 2 disks on Jasmine, Simple and Sweet Sweeter as the Years Go By, and also her complete recordings box set with Benny Goodman. These are amazing. Play them through a good tube amp and it's as close to a time machine as you can get.

  • can anyone place the year of this recording?

  • @rewinfrey - Can't be dead certain, but think it was 1939. She made good music whichever band she sang with and there were a few of them.

  • @paulkate72 - thanks for the year. any band in particular you would recommend?

  • @rewinfrey - Thanks for your comment. Yes, Helen Forrest sang with Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman (which this one is) and Harry James.

Artie Shaw probably is where she was at her best in my view, but I realise not everyone will agree with that. Best to you...

  • why don't more people remember this great singer? She was one of the best.

  • I love Ms.Forrest,she was class act.

  • Love Helen & Benny's work..gives you such a taste of what the 1940's must have been like

  • what a doll!!!!!!!

  • This LADY was a personal friend and a great artist. I'll miss her forever.

  • @mrronniea

  • @mrronniea

Wow! you're so lucky to have know her.

  • Talented and beautiful Jewish girl

  • Then there were the three babushkas named Andrews......

  • @Latz51 One of several NJG's who made it big in the world of big band music.

I liked Bea Wain a lot too.

  • Now, I'll take this any day of the week as opposed to a bunch of idiots with their bling bling and their pants hanging down below their butt cheeks, rhyming words to a beat a toddler could mimic.........THIS is real music.. God America, wake up and end this other crap!!!!!

  • 2ND THE MOTION "WHAT A DAME". B

  • god she is beautiful

  • What a dame!!!!!

  • I know more about Helen Forrest after these videos. Especially, from a video of a concert in 1983. Wonderful singer, great songs. Thanks!

  • Benny Goodman was at his best when Helen Forrest was singing with him. Helen could sing anything and it would sound good.
