Pryor rules. I'm glad he chuckled at Milton Berle's dull, self-serious story about paying for some twat's abortion. Berle was a joke stealing transvestite anyway. Fuck him.
@lgadwords put him in his place? uncle miltie, like so many from that era (i'm thinking of jerry lewis at the moment) never understood that comedy and tragedy are two sides of the same coin. when they tried to be serious as in this instance they'd omit all traces of humor and self parody, which made them sound more like embittered old curmudgeons than comedians. pryor was opposite, which is why he made the bogart reference. he used the tragedies in his life as material for his act
Hey, he [Richard Pryor] got it back. Richard once said, "Someone lighted a match and asked, "What's that?" and someone answered, "Richard Pryor running down the street." Years later, Richard died a very, painful, slow death! Be careful when you're ignorant, 'cause that bitch'll turn around on you.
@Arthro92 both pryor and berle could be assholes in their personal lives. big difference is that pryor integrated his personal problems into his act and used tragedy as the basis for his comedy, berle and many of his contemporaries wrongly assumed that tragedy and comedy were opposites--which is why much of the comedy from that era seems irrelevant, phoney and dated these days. milton sounds like a self important asshole here because that's who he truly was sans the "act"
Milton was talking about a girlfriend having an abortion and Richard giggled. Milton should have smacked him in the head. I think Richard was all talk and his skinning ass couldn't fight worth a shit.
@sgtpepper1138 I would say "yeah you're right it is pretty funny isn't it haha!". Hey what if your mom beat you and was a cruel bitch? Then you might find it a geefull occasion that she's dying lol.
a man who got a girl knocked up has no business talking about PICKIN SPOTS.

Hey - Crispin Glover on Happy Days? That had to have been the final season. The show did run until 1984.

Was Milton Berle trying to act tough there? What the hell was that, does he think he is the bad guy from No Country For Old Men?

well, Richard WAS laughing while Milton was telling a story that really wasn't funny
it WAS kind of rude, he should have held it back, at least until he was out of sight of Richard
it's like if you were talking about your mother dying or something, and some jackoff who is sitting near by starts laughing, what would you think/do?
