@RealCyrano I also might add that according to the currency act if said persons refuse to accept a legal tender payment on said debt the citizen in debt legally no longer owes said debt.
my dad owns a place where people pay bills. well, i was at the register one day working. someone came in and had to pay a $45 phone bill. and gave me pennies and dimes. i said, "DAD! Come here, please!"
@y2k95 that's an idea Ima keep bitchin about tax N crap N Ima keep payin my tickets in pennies for me to pay them to count YEP just like that!! Maby they won't exept them Now who saved money me myself and I... plus them taking care of me in jail cuz in broke N commited a crime(that im also taxed for) OMG tax is bullshit leave people alone
The U.S. Post Office will not accept Presidential dollars for a money order even though their website clearly states Money orders must be paid for in one of these ways: A.In U.S. Currency and coin in any amount. Check it out on my youtube page I video taped the whole ordeal.
that is the a great idea, just take it one step more and get them to write it down that they will not accept your payment of legal tender coins, then walk away with that note and when they summon you to appear in court for non payment, present the note and tell the judge that's what you had, and they wouldn't accept it and you want to extinguish the debt not simply discharge it and that you don't use Federal Reserve Notes because they are not real money, they are discharge notes, not payment.
Heres a little News for ya'll. As of Today every penny dated before 1982 Is Copper! With the price of Copper well over 4 bucks a pound, and it takes 150 pennies to make 1 pound. Hmm, Who is getting ripped off here? The guy paying the Ticket. If Anyone wants to sort pennies for a job, I will Pay you 2 cents for Every penny with a date before 1982. You Double Your money! This is No joke or Scam. Get a hold of me! Joe. I pay Cash!
UCC 3-603 (b): "If tender of payment of an obligation to pay an instrument (parking ticket) is made to a person entitled to enforce the instrument (clerk) and the tender is refused (by supervisor), there is discharge (settlement), to the extent of the amount of the tender, of the obligation of an indorser or accommodation party having a right of recourse with respect to the obligation to which the tender relates." Nowhere in UCC 3-603 is it specified that pennies are not tender of payment.
the roomer that everyone must take what ever type of currency you have is is false. it comes from the "Coinage act of 1965 section 31 U.S.C 5103" which says that
"United States coins and currency (including Federal reserve notes and circulating notes of Federal reserve banks and national banks) are legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes, and dues."
however no laws are made mandating that they must take any coins (or large bills).
This is stupid. People complain that the Govt. wastes our taxes yet we the tax payers have to pay someone to count 300 dollars worth of pennies because your mad. If you got 3 tickets you broke the law. Since you didn't fight the ticket you are admitting guilt. So yes please pay in pennies then complain how the Government over pays it's employees and wastes your tax money.
@Day916indian the "payingwithpennies" idiot left out a small part of his quote of The Coinage Act. After the quote it states that it is still up to the discretion of the payee as to what type of payment they accept. Just like when you pay your taxes it says "do not send cash". They don't want a shit load of cash in the mail. The lady told him "we do not accept coin". They probably have that policy b/c they knew some shit like this would one day happen.
@Sahadi420 No because the postal employee could steal the cash. Also you cannot prove that you made that payment. It usually says please don't send cash. I don't recommend sending cash or coins in the mail for payment.
Ok so the govt. refuses to take this mans legal money, does he have to pay his fines? Hey judge I offered to pay with good money and they refused to take it.
you should have called the police because its legal tender and by federal law they have to accept it. It just has to fit into the slot where you hand your money into so they don't have to come out and get it for there safety
let me have the pennies lool

I thought if you presented them with legal currency and they rejected it, the debt is null and void.

where this guy lives he has to pay the ticket before he can appeal it, and knowing the story behind this, I probably would have done the same thing.
