  • this song is so true, it has so much meaning, and for some reason, i cant stop listening to it!

  • I just believe in "I believe"...it has hard hitting truths!

  • XD OH GOD I remember our English teacher made us write down the lyrics to this song. "Write down the lyrics and the meanings," was what he said. All of us could not make sense of the words at 1:18 and 3:20 because they sounded more like "bah mah sah alloooo ooooo". Oh fun stuff and fun song. I love those old days.

  • the start of the song is so feel good. makes me just wanna boogie.

  • thegoodteacher(dot)com

  • Just thought of this song, have not heard it in years and what a fantastic song it is and will always be!

  • thumbs up if you think youtube should have a repeat button. and post this on every one of your favourite music video clips

  • I have never heard this...loved it! Thank you!

  • I totally forgot about this song. I heard it very little (if at all) in childhood. Yesterday, when I watched a short Darren Hayes advert, I remembered a slight memory of this song but I never knew Savage Garden sang this lol. Savage Garden was definitely one of the most amazing bands ever and Darren Hayes still makes songs which are just awesome.

  • i forgot the name of the one who gone solo....

  • i believe you can't appreciate real love till you've been burnt :')

i believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye :')

  • Darren has such a way to touch your soul , with his songs

  • I can choose my sexuallity, same as I chose my gender and told my parents where I want to be born

  • @142doddy True, true and false. You are who you choose to be, not who you are born to be, even if you can't help the latter.

  • @Ant1Live He/she was being sarcastic in their comment. Their point was you cannot chose your gender, place of birth or who you are. Gay/straight/bisexual, it is who they are, and nobody should bring anyone down for that.

  • @boooyaax Sure, sure, sure. Believe whatever popular music tells you rather than what realities the facts bring to light.

  • @Ant1Live Oh hi God! Nice of you to comment on youtube telling us the facts of life!

  • @boooyaax You are right. Better to let Lady Gaga do it.

  • @Ant1Live What has she got to do with anyone?

  • @142doddy What son

  • @142doddy Oh god... I hope this is a kind of sarcasm, because if it is not, then you didn't get the real meaning of the phrase...

  • @Nanodae, Im glad someone agrees with me ^_^

  • The one line I love is,'' I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality.'' My mom used to listen to Savage Garden all the time....but she doesn't believe in that line? blehh on her

  • @mrsluna14 its true, i never chose to like girls thats just how i feel inside, you cant force yourself to love someone therefore you cant force yourself to love a certain gender. love is controlled by the heart not your will or mind.

  • @mrsluna14 Totally agree!

  • how could anyone not like this song let alone 6 people

  • best song ever by them i wish i could of seen them live

  • This song says it all doesn't it...

  • Great song, and I find Darren Hayes' vocals exceptional and unique. Thanks for uploading this CSI !

  • i believe that god is not a norse TV evangelist

  • i believe every word he says.

  • I clearly hear unhappiness not own happiness. Truly, who has been happy with forgiving really? It sets you up to be back-stabbed again, and it puts you into another vulnerable position that has you wondering whether or not you can rely on the person. I've been let down so many times by people that I've just concluded it with "forget it." I'm much happier alone than with a room full of liars and deceit.

  • a true gay man would never say "i believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul". we are all way too superficial to believe that shit. is he a real gay man? or did being married and in the closet for so long lead him astray?

  • The logical thing would be that they don't think they deserve forgiveness and so it makes them unhappy.

  • I believe this song gets everything right =)

  • let go, let God. forgive and your are forgiven and most importantly forgive yourself

  • i think it is the key to your own happiness

  • I believe forgiveness is the key to your own happiness

  • the lyric is " I believe forgiveness is the key to your own happiness" because by forgiving others, you will find happiness and peace of mind; when you hold grudges you will never be happy, think about it...

  • key to your OWN happiness...unhappiness? wtf, how does that even make sense?

  • I believe that everyone in America needs to listen to this song prior to the next Presidential election!

  • I really love this song! Happy you shared it!

  • Great video!! Just saying (you probably know the first one) it's until (not untill) and the lyrics are 'own happiness' -complete forgiveness lifts a great weight off your and the person you are forgiving's shoulders.

Continue making them, please. Your effort is appreciated. :)

  • i believe it has been worth searching youtube for the past half hour to find this tune! :)

  • I can understand this song.....love all Savage Garden songs they are just awesome .so sad they split up ..I still listen to Darren;s songs ..his voice is amazing

  • Bloody hell, im an indie/rock fanatic....and my mates would kill me for liking this, but the lyrics to this move me like i don't know what....brilliant. message in this, love it.

  • Thanks everyone for the nice comments. :)

I am more than sure the line is "unhappiness", and it makes perfect sense, to me at least. Listen carefully, you'll hear it. xD

  • @CSIFreak52 Hiya! The phrase is "own happiness", but otherwise it's a great song!.Thanks for posting with lyrics! LOVE this song!! ;)

  • @CSIFreak52 it is unhappiness they are saying that if you keep forgiving someone who keeps hurting you, you are making yourself unhappy hense the "i believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness"

  • @CSIFreak52 I think it's 'own happiness'...

  • I so love this song. Best song I have ever heard and so true.

  • @CSIFreak52 makes perfect sense to me as well. It is the most beautiful song I have ever heard.

  • Not sure why you guys are so confused by the lyrics, but he's saying that by forgiving others and processing your feelings instead of bottling them up, your unhappiness will go away.

  • The correct lyrics are "i believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness" you can watch the live versions to see.

What I think it is means is that while second chances are fine, if you continue to forgive someone that hurts you (for example a bf/gf having an affair) then you will continue to be hurt and be unhappy.

  • @amadeus3x16 The lyric "i believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness" actually means the opposite of what you say. A "key" is a way to open doors and escape. What he's saying is that that if you forgive, you can leave the unhappiness behind. Darren has talked about forgiveness and healing in interviews.

  • @amadeus3x16 No, he is saying 'forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness'. There is no true healing without forgiveness - no real moving on to newer life - relationships. He's not talking about allowing yourself to be treated like a doormat.

  • @amadeus3x16 I disagree...I think it means that the key to ridding yourself of your unhappiness is to forgive, and let it go... move on from it.

  • BEST LINES EVER..."I BELIEVE THAT TRUST IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MONOGAMY" AND "I BELIEVE YOU CAN'T APPRECIATE REAL LOVE 'TIL YOU'VE BEEN BURNED"..

  • I was and still am a Savage Garden fan, so I have their CDs. Everyone is confused by a line in the song and I looked at the lyrics in the CD cases. It is:

"I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness."

    Many think it's "own happiness."

I think this line is about how people live their lives unhappy because they never learned to completely forgive the wrongs done to them. I'll admit, complete and absolute forgiveness is one of the hardest things anyone can do.

  • @TheLastHour7 Your explanation is spot-on...that's EXACTLY what they mean by "the key to your unhappiness!"

  • @TheLastHour7 THANKYOU!!! JESUS IF YOU PEOPLES WERE REALL SAVAGE GARDEN FANS YOUD KNOW THIS EVEN I KNEW IT!!! :)

  • its bands like this who make me proud to be a 90's kid!!!!

  • i love this song

  • I've never agreed with every single line to a song before this one

  • It's UNHAPPINESS. Watch the live performance. It's far clearer there.

  • Freaking LOVE this song!!!!!

  • I have both the US and Oz released CDs. The lyrics included with both have this line as "I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness". It makes sense to me, reading it as "you can unlock your own prison (unhappiness) by learning to forgive (others, and more particularly, yourself)".

  • I have both the US and Oz released CDs. The lyrics included with both have this line as "I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness". It makes sense to me, reading it as "you can unlock your own prison (unhappiness) by learning to forgive (others, and more particularly, yourself)".

  • @BubblesFreak4711 Maybe we should think about the idea that "unhappiness" fits as well... of course we'll be happier if we try to forgive and move on. But sometimes, it's more important to acknowledge when you're not ready to forgive. Don't just forgive because you're supposed to, that's torture. Let yourself be pissed! Be human! Let yourself dislike some people, at least for a little while, so you may appreciate the awesome folks.

  • The picture at 0:17 is fucking hilarious

  • Hey, I believe this song all the way!! and even tho' I have this CD, I loved watching this video, but there's that one part where he says about the Evangelists, now there are a lot of Evangelists that are okay, some that are not, and I do believe that about the fashion magazines brings on the low self esteem! this song sure opens up the real in this world, I say there should be more of this kind of music out there!! :)

  • I think is "the key to your own happiness" too ;) I love this song...XD

  • the song lyric-"i believe forgivenss is the key to your unhappiness" means that you will be unhappy till you forgive that person for the wrong deed they did since you are still affected by the wrong doing and keep reminding youself by not forgiving.

  • To some people its just another pop song, but the words are actually very simple and very profound. He is saying in order to love you have to open up, in opening up you can be hurt and feel pain, better to feel pain and evolve rather than shut yourself down and feel nothing. You have to forgive others for hurting you, and ultimately you have to forgive yourself for being human and making mistakes. Also its a song about tolerance and accepting others for what they are. Great Post.

  • @CSIFreak52 Thank you for posting, now i can but the lyrics to the video, some parts i didnt understand what was said, so these lyrics help!! I got introduced to Savage Garden by a mate last week, cant get enough!!

  • but as long as the formal lyrics is "forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness", we should try to grope what that really implies, how that makes sense.

  • He is singing "forgiveness is the key to your OWN happiness." He just sings it really fast and it sounds like unhappiness. It really doesn't make sense to say forgiveness leads to UNhappiness. lol...Forgiveness allows you to move on with your life! :)

  • "forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness"

thats true in some situations. for instance, supposed youre in a relationship with someone, if you forgive her when your girl cheated on you, she wont learn much from her mistake. even if she learned, a cheater is kind of a person that cant fix herself easily, possibly will make the same mistake again. so you shouldnt forgive her and should leave her if you dont want to feel sad with her anymore. of course it depends but still true in some occasions.

  • omg Darren is so hott

  • aaah thanx for this cool vid! i so so so love this song, makes me feel so good!!! gotta fuzzy feelin inside:)

  • i dont undestand this line... "i believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness"

besides that LOVE this song! its so much better than the new music now

  • @BubblesFreak4711 To be honest, I am really not sure about this either.

Some sites say it is own happiness, but the majority said unhappiness :)

I think you should take a look at @connierc1 's comment, it sums this line up perfectly! ;D

  • @CSIFreak52 My sister had the CD and I actually went and dug it out to check. It says "own happiness."

  • @CSIFreak52

Its saying that if you forgive someone, its the key to unlock the unhappiness to your happiness. A lock and key kinda thing. I read it on a different blog, makes sense though~

  • @CSIFreak52 if u listen carefully its unhappiness ;)

  • @CSIFreak52 The line is definitly "unhappiness". It means that if you are given forgiveness, your unhappiness will be solved.

Plus, the lyrics are in the booklet. :)

  • @BubblesFreak4711 FORGIVENESS is OURS here on EARTH.... VENGENCE is MINE so SAITH THE LORD !! :)

  • @BubblesFreak4711 FORGIVENESS is OURS here on EARTH.... VENGENCE is MINE so SAITH THE LORD !! :) If ONE forgives he does not have to forget but forgiving will help one to move forward and in the end.. GOD will make the right decisions...

  • @BubblesFreak4711 oo nga no heheh but unhappiness xa sana happiness ang nakalagay

  • @BubblesFreak4711

I think its actually 'I believe forgiveness is the key to your own happiness'

  • @BubblesFreak4711 A key is pretty much a solution to a problem. For example, it's a problem if you want to get into something if it has a lock on it. So the key to that lock will solve that problem for you. Forgiveness solves your unhappiness, because holding grudges is no way to keep yourself happy since anger leads to sadness which are both the opposite of joy. So I guess it's sort of like a 'key' to your unhappiness. If that makes sense? :3

  • @BubblesFreak4711 A bit late of a reply but anyway. I'd take it to mean the key to solving your unhappiness.

  • @BubblesFreak4711 Is it possible that the line reads 'own happiness', not 'unhappiness'? It would certainly fit better. Though, having not read the lyrics from the disc book (if it comes with one), I can only say what would sound more likely..

  • @BubblesFreak4711 Not 'unhappiness'. Own happiness. Small mistake by the guy who deciphered the lyrics.

  • @anuvydehi it is "unhappiness" although "own happiness" also fits. What would be the key you need to end the unhappiness caused by someone who hurt you? the answer is forgiveness, and by forgiving and no longer having a reproachful attitude you achieve your own happiness, so yeah, both fit for me =)

  • @BubblesFreak4711 to be perfectly honest, I believe that it means that when you forgive someone who hurts you, its still going to bring you unhappiness because you are always going to remember what that person did to you. so it makes perfect sense to me.

  • @BubblesFreak4711

to be perfectly honest, it means that even when you do forgive someone,

your always going to be unhappy because your always going to remember

what that person did to you, and you will never be satisfied with that person,

because sometimes you should just not forgive, and just forget completely.

  • @BubblesFreak4711

The words in that lyric read...

I believe forgiveness is the key to your own happiness

Hope this clears it up a little for you :)

  • @BubblesFreak4711 I think that the line means the reason why you are unhappy is because you can't forgive someone who's hurt you :) so the only way to be truly happy is to let go and to just forgive :) that's only what i think though lol xD

    Love this song <3 :)

  • @ohkeikei ABSOLUTELY!

  • @BubblesFreak4711

It sounds a bit like "I believe forgiveness is the key to your own happiness" to me, or just "happiness". Maybe it's one of those? ^^

  • @BubblesFreak4711

You have to forgive and move on. Grudges breed unhappiness

  • @BubblesFreak4711 I think he means forgiveness will solve the unhappiness issue.

    Kev

  • @BubblesFreak4711

Sounds to me like hes trying to say that you should have no regrets. You you forgive someone for being unfaithful for example, you'll still have regrets that they may do it again. If you are left with that feeling, it will leave you feeling unhappy knowing that I could happen again.

  • @BubblesFreak4711 i agree, i didn't get that one eigther... but what can u do? they wrote is xD i have absolutelly been in love w/ savage garden since i was a little girl =) <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • @BubblesFreak4711 The lyrics are wrong. It's "i believe forgiveness is the key to your own happiness"

  • @ader77

It's not. It's 'unhappiness'. He make it far more clear in the live performance of it.

  • @BubblesFreak4711 maybe 'if you forgive someone, you will be happy' or 'even though you've forgiven them, you still feel miserable' though i think its the first of the two options :)

  • Comment removed

  • @BubblesFreak4711 ya, it's the key to your OWN happiness.

  • @BubblesFreak4711 the line is actually "i believe forgiveness is the key to your own happiness".

  • @BubblesFreak4711 i think its basically stating that if you learn to forgive, then you can set yourself free from the hate and envy you have towards someone else. aka, when you learn to forgive you become happy because you have nothing to be mad at anymore lol.

  • @BubblesFreak4711 he misquoted the song: that part should be "I believe forgiveness is the key to your own happiness."

  • @BubblesFreak4711 It means forgiving the things in your past makes you happier in the present. If you hold on to the traumas of the past then you can't be happy.

  • @BubblesFreak4711 the line means that the reason most people are unhappy is because they need to forgive or need to be forgiven.

  • @BubblesFreak4711 the way I see it, a lot of people do forgive people just because they don't want to lose them. They just keep forgiving and forgiving and get more attached, and then in the end are just generally unhappy because they're with someone who causes problems. IDK, that's the way I see it. but maybe that's just cuz of the thing i had to go through today

  • @SirMufalmar Some things are forgivable some are not. A loose word let in anger forgivable. Adultery not

  • @BubblesFreak4711 - I think he means that if you can open your heart to forgiveness than you will no longer be unhappy. People who dwell on a problem they are having; tend to be more angry people. So, naturally if you can forgive then your heart wont be conflicted any longer. Therefore, allowing the heart to accept more happiness in to it. :D

  • @BubblesFreak4711 hi there, i.e if you forgive, you will be happier : )

  • @BubblesFreak4711 who gives a fuck its a doozy song that cunts can just hack up to

  • it means that forgiving everyone leads 2 unhappiness cause people use people who they know will always forgive them

  • it means that forgiving everyone leads 2 unhappiness cause people use other people

  • @BubblesFreak4711 OWN happiness i think it's supposed be.

  • @BubblesFreak4711 this is correct line

  • @BubblesFreak4711 its like you're in a rooom of unhappiness and then you use the key (which represents forgiveness) to set you free, and allow you to move on with your life
