i think its cool that you have anteaters! i have a strange pet collection myself 2 pitbulls 1 akita chow 1 rotweller 2 hairless rats 2 rosehaired turantulas 5 mice 1 ball python 1 scorpion 1 yellowbellied slider turtle and im workin on getting a pinstriped albino burmese python i for see anteaters entering that collection some time soon! lol ty for sharing
@lpb4758 well indeed they are in fact quibbling over the blue cheese. i think they enjoy the satisfaction the get from quibbling the blue cheese because of the flarp tinkle. they do look rather content
I haven't seen this video! Awh....so nice to see baby Stewie...(sniff)...I REALLY enjoy all your tam video's...such unusual yet remarkable little guys!
I work from home but used to have a store and they came with me. When I have to leave they are locked in my room. When I first get one they do get caged for awhile and out more as they settle in.
If they go that nuts over a wrapper, what are they like with the cheese itself!! Gorgeous little pair though! I am slightly jealous that America does have the green flag on impoted exotic animals whereas in the UK chinchillas and reptiles are really as far as we are allowed. Still I love my chins and I can understand transportation is a no no really.
They really love their blue cheese and will raid an unlatched fridge for it. Before I put a latch on it I piled things by the door. Pua had managed to pry the door open just enough to get an arm in and got the blue cheese open and spilled and I woke up to her crying because she couldn't get it.
Well they may be allowed there. I know they made sloths legal. But survival of the flight then the quarantine would be very iffy They are pretty delicate.
I didn't know sloths were legal. Still, I don't think i'd have the time to look after it with work I'll stick to cuddly toys for now I think! I must admit that imagine does sound rather cute of her getting in a tizz over some cheese! They do sound like total characters!
I know what you mean! I couldn't believe people have these as pets! I'm from Australia and cause our ecosystem is so unique the government has some of the strictest laws. In my state you can't even have a rabbit as a pet.
SHeesh TamanduaGirl. shame shame for giving your anteaters a treat once in awhile! (sarcasm). You know what your doing and you get these idiots that "think" they know better then you. Whatever.. I love your anteaters, their cute.they would have a field day at my house with the ants
next time you should think b4 ur speaking. I only care about your animals, and i am glad i am telling you this stuff. Because I love animals, esp. anteaters. They are so so adorable.
I did. I spent years research their diet and working it out to align to the nutritional values of their wild diet. It has also helped several other tamanduas besides my own live healthier lives. A rare treat wont hurt. Stewie only ever one a taste of creamsicle twice in his whole life.
It's nice that you care but lots of people have complained because I gave them a treat. They do not live on treats and you just happily recommended a unhealthy diet.
Well you see, it really depends on what you feed them, their phosphorus diet for some dry cat kibble, is 0.97 % If you give them leafeater primate
(diet dry one) then it is 0.71 % Thus meaning your ant eater will get a good diet. Their "rational" needs are obviously like ours, they need exercise, sleep, "right" diets, and "healthy" nutritional treats. I know a lot about animals, I am going to be a zoo-ologist.
You did not answer the question but avoided it. You gave what is in domestic diets fed not what they need. The phos to Cal ratio is very important. Zoo tamanduas are coming down with spinal lesions because kibble/biscuit diet is HUNDREDS of times higher than what they get in their wild diet. You just told me I should be feeding my tamanduas a diet that will cripple them and send them to an early grave.
I have seen your last few videos, and you were pretty much feeding your anteaters. The one was with a cream cycle. Do you know how much sugar is in that ?? I can tell you from now, they are going to be very unhealthy anteaters. Poor things. I am not telling you what to do either, but ... You should really lighten up their diet with healther foods. Try giving them a pear. Or maybe even an apple. Nothing with corn syrup in it. They say its healthy, but its not.
You're commenting on a couple videos where they got treats. I suppose you tell everybody who has a video of a dog getting a treat what a bad diet it is.
Since you apparently are an expert in animal nutrition and a psychic who knows what their diet is based on a couple videos of treats. Tell me what their calcium phosphorus needs are in their diet? Tell me what their retinol needs are? You must know since you are giving diet advice on anteaters.
Dang meant to hit reply and hit remove. I hate that. They should give a warning, do you really want to. Oh well.
Yes they can injure with their claws but the odds of something serious are minimal. They wont maul a person. If frightened and forced to defend themselves they will just wack/pinch. When frightened and I didn't let Pua know it was me before picking her up she sunk her claws into my arms. Just one puncture in each arm and that was it. I do file the nails for their and my benefit.
Well, the laws vary by country, state, county and city(or equivalents). You need to check with each level of government as one can allow it and another not or you may need to get permits. At least it works that way in the USA and Canada.
They get ants in the summer when on walks and as I can gather them. We got a few for treats through the winter. The main diet is a mix of beef and other items.
I spent 2yrs learning before even looking for one, three years before I got one. I have continued to research and do all I can to learn about them. It's a life commitment. You can't rely on your vet like you can for a dog or cat or even other exotics. You do need a good vet but you need to know all you can and most vets will know much less than you about them.
The thing that would really worry me if I went through the research and commitment of adopting these is, what if one got really sick? Even an exotics vet would probably have no idea how to treat it. I'd be all on my own.
I mean, eventually they will grow old and sick and need care as they approach the end of their natural lifespan, just like a cat or a dog, except you would be all on your own! You'd need like a zoologist who specializes in anteaters, wouldn't you?
Vet looks at you pet and is thinking my god what is going on with this poor thing. Been there, it SUCKS and I have a vet with tamandua experience. There is very little info on them. That info has to come from somewhere. You have to except you could wind up being one of these cases to learn from. Bearing in mind that unless it's a diet related problem it's likely something they encounter in the wild to but have a better chance of surviving with vet care even if not perfect.
Old age issues however should be similar to most animals and would require similar supportive care. Old age is not something I fear though it is sad to go through.
If you can't be nice I wont approve your comment. It shows you don't know what you're talking about any way. Anteaters are not bottle raised unless one must. Tamanduas are naturally friendly with people, given the chance. Don't go messing with a wild one but I'd not try to pet a feral dog either. Well, blue cheese is moldy. Mold is a natural part of their diet since there is lots of mold in ant and termite tunnels, again shows you know noting about the animal you are condemning keeping.
As far as keeping them naturally. You are only picking on me because I have something different. Hamsters do not have as long a history of people keeping them. Hamsters have about 8 miles of territory they roam in the wild. Go pick on people keeping hamsters in little cages and tanks.
I would approve your comment but people who do like watching don't like seeing posts like that so I moderate. I don't mind posting conflicting opinions if people can be civil but you weren't.
For the UK you would have to check with Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)on legality. But the long trip could be really hard on one anyway.

Cheese whiz and wine, ice creams and blue cheese??? Better than wildlife imo.
Once again man proven smarter than nature. Cuz nature would never put blue cheeze in the forest cuz nature doesnt want animals' diet to be healthy.
Nevertheless, with ice cream and cheese even I would like to be in prison.
Better cut the crap and try save their natural habitats, or take all anteaters in ur house. Utherwise what you do there is so totally unacceptable.
