Great video. You can also get another meaning out of this video: since a pair of binoculars can get the sun's rays to a focal point to cause a fire, well imagine what it can do to your eyes. DON'T LOOK AT THE SUN THROUGH YOUR BINOCULARS!
@ocampor0011 Try char cloth or dry rotten wood. The object is to make a coal, not open flame. You then place the coal into a nest of tinder and blow it up to flame.
There are YT videos out there on how to make char cloth.
That is a good question. Know your binoculars, some higher end binoculars have sealed lenses with inert gas inside. I don't think a UV protected lens would stop them from making a fire, you certainly wouldn't look at the the sun with them!
Got way to point out that survival is about preperation before you go out in the bush. I've had bad luck with magnifying lenses making fire. I can make one with ever friction method and I'm faster with a ferro rod than most are with matches or a lighter. Thanks for the char cloth tip. I'll try that. Your vids are great keep them coming. I'm not photgenic so I don't post but you're sharing good info.

Cool! But how hard do you have to blow? With less force than blowing out a candle, or even less/more?

Blow strong but steady. Stand with your back to
the wind if possible so you can take another breath without getting a lungful of smoke.

Yeah my Binoculars have special lenses that are a goldish color.

would it not just be eaisier just to take a lighter ?

I always carry a Bic in the woods among other fire starters. The point is to learn to use what you have if it all goes south.

Would that work with a small piece of coal? Maybe with it soaked in lighter fluid?
kobi0222 3 years ago
I don't know. It is possible to re-light a coal from a fire pretty easily.
