HA my friends such a retard, you need either 20 hours of vs. Games or play 700 vs. Games, so after I unlocked mewtwo my friend was like: "well that's easy, ill just turn on vs. Mode on unlimited time battle, turn the tv off, wait a day and then fight him when insane up and unlock him" so I was like, good luck with that and when he woke up the next day... I got Brawl before I got Melee. I unlocked every character in Brawl, but I got bored with it and i felt bad that Mewtwo wasn't in Brawl. So I bought Melee. I haven't unlocked Mewtwo in it yet, but I will very soon. Also, I hope he will return in the next SSB.

Blame GameFreak and the Mario series for Mewtwo's axe.

Because of the Mario series only having 4 characters (which was also stupid...), Sakurai did not want Pokemon to have the most characters. Mewtwo and Lucario were planned at this time. Pichu was cut, and the idea of Plusle and Minun to replace him was axed in favor of PT. That left Pikachu, Jiggs, Mewtwo, and Lucario. Pikachu and Jigglypuff were safe because of the Original 12 rule, so it was either Mewtwo or Lucario. (Next)

GameFreak said that Lucario is a MUST, in order to promote the current Generation.

So, Mewtwo was the one who had to be cut, although he was almost finished.

Next Smash will have both, trust me. Sakurai is seeing all this sadness at Mewtwo's axing, and he WILL bring him back in the future. What the fans clamor for, they will get. (Case in point, Sonic.)

When they make SSB4, They should have 60 chars and no subspace emmisary, no NOTHING, even less stages, but more chars will be better, seriously. And if the Textures (alt costumes) take too much, just 2 or 1 would be enough.

Cuz when Pichu was officially scrapped and Pokemon Trainer was announced, they were only 1st-generation Pokemons playables, so Sakurai decided to replace Mewtwo by his 4th-generation equivalent, Lucario.

i think the reason why is because nintendo doesn't own pokemon. the creator of it does. nintendo makes the games for pokemon but doesn't own it. they have premission to use whatever pokemon. but i guess the creator wanted another pokemon with telekinetic powers to be in brawl. so i guess thats why they took mewtwo out and put lucario in instead.

Actually, I can definitely see that happen. I love using Lucario a lot, but it's just not the same as using Mewtwo. Movewise, it mostly is, but there's something missing. Probably Mewtwo's villainous personality.

Lucario does not fight very similarly to Mewtwo in a moveset clone-style... but he has a similar demeanor and behavior to him. He's light, floaty, and very evasive in a stealthy, sweep around you way. A lot of his animations are similar, such as his foot-slide switch (Shield to the left or right), his jumps are very similar, and his Pros/Cons are almost exact in terms of statistics.

But... I do believe Mewtwo is the better of the two if you master him. Both are good, but Mewtwo also has style.
