    I love this.

    Watch.

  • The translation is so very wrong.

This is the exact translation of one of the most popular russian lullabies which sounds in the very begining here:

0:23 Lullaby. Don't lie on the end. Grey wolfing will come and nip you( literally- your side). It'll nip you and lug off into forest under a broom bush.

  • thank you for this,, I love this song.. just now 16years old Russian girl has visited and I showed this... I am Japanese by the way. I met Yuri Norshetein in Japan. He was very kind man..

  • it looks kind of trippy and I don't get what's going on....good animation though especially at 9:16

  • genialno.

  • Good work!

  • Really beautiful and amazing! Thanks for posting!

  • Still the most wonderful animated film of all

  • it's a success on a dozen levels...one of my favorite movies.

  • Is there a region 2 or region free version of this?

  • oh my!!! 1979!! and this movie just kills everything else i have seen in youtube!!! im so happy to found this beauty!!! thank you so much!, todays animators should see this kind of animations

  • Can some one translate this please, it has 7 thumbs up! I really would like to know what he said.

  • wow! a true jewel

  • I love this film. It's so wistful and moving. On that note, can anyone tell me the name of the song the husbands' wives dance to, preferrably in Cyrillic letters, along with the artist? That scene breaks my heart.

  • I believe that you meant "Utomlennoe solntse". I actually found out about that animation thanks to that song:)

hmm, it seems that I can't post links here:/ youtube links... damn, such a nice description was there.

Okey, just type it in search engine of youtube, Or go check out the "Ta_ostatnia_niedziela" entry on wikipedia... Enjoy.

You may also want to check out the original Polish version "Ostatnia Niedziela". Or at least I hope you do because I'm Pole and you would make me upset otherwise;)

  • Thank you so much! That was really helpsul, actually. And I will totally be sure to look up the Polish version. I'm part Polish myself, actally, as well as Ukrainian, but i only speak Russian. And English (quite obviously).

  • This kind of film is like wine it takes an aquired taste and it is also like a poem were everything isnt just laid out in front of you but you have to think about the film and what it might mean.I thought the part where the soldiers were leaving their wives and moved like shadows through the women was a powerful scene. I showed it to my papa who is also a poet he liked it. To Satampra I love spongebob :D who lives in a pinneaple under the sea! Better than hannah montana or highschoolmusicalTRASH

  • for Aniforce: its supposed to be a memory, I doubt anyone has movie styled memories of their past, thats why it jumps from one scene to the next without explanation, and if you need one for watching something then you really shouldnt be watching something like this, its way above your level of comprehension, just stick to watching sponge bob maybe youll find something artistic about that..

  • truly truly moving but the 3 have to be watched

  • Probably because it was made in 1979.

  • And what I mean for my pervious comment was that in 1979, it would be hard to make a non-dynamic animation, since that wasn't very common.

  • truly moving

  • But I have to add to that: Maybe it's the Youtube quality.

  • or maybe he is used to dynamic stuff of disneys ;d

  • i think its better if you speak of examples and names of the artists.

since now its just empty words, i think you understand that :)

  • to Aniforce:

this animation has a pretty clear story if you get a little bit into the culture and history. and if you don't, it's just beafutiful, isn't that enough?

  • Sorry, but I think that the fact thet you "can't watch is fully" says sonthink about the borders of your sensations and your had...

You know? As deep as the peace of art, as more difficult to understand it...

  • a miracle

  • I wish I could make a film as beautiful as this. Everything about Tale of Tales is just so perfect. I love it.

  • it's Bach, in "the well-tempered clavier"... however I can't give you the exact title of this one (a prelude I think).

one of my favourite animation films... absolutely wonderful.

  • thank you i found it well tempered prelude no.8 in e-flat minor book 1.

  • sad,love,hopeless..anyone knows what's the name of the piano piece here? I'm pretty sure it's by mozart, but i can't find it's name anywhere.please help.

  • Absolutely beautiful. Russian animation rocks!!!

  • The translation of the lullaby is not accurate. There's a much better one that's up on wikipedia: Baby, baby, rock-a-bye/On the edge you mustn't lie/Or the little grey wolf will come/And will nip you on the tum,/Tug you off into the wood/Underneath the willow-root.

  • This animator makes everything by hand, stupid westerns who don't get romantic allegories...

  • it's hypnothising though there is no traditional plot. It's just another type of seeng the reality. The message? I think one had better looked it through, this is only the 1 part

  • This is extremely beautiful.

  • how do you figure, this creeps the hell out of me

  • lol, it skips a lot

  • Oh no, it does not. It's so beautiful. I make BoojumMXX my words exactly. It's a mesmorizing animation.

  • (the former comment was a response to zidanetribal00042 "how do you figure, this creeps the hell out of me")

=))) But if you folks think the story scares you how about peeking this bedtime story? = The Sandman (1992)

  • The most beautiful film ever made..? Spinos bolshoi Yuri Norstein

  • what kind of computer software can duplicate this effect?

  • The film was hand made on specially constructed equipment. So I don't know.

  • BRILLIANT, AMAZING, AWESOME, FANTASTIC

    the best animated film ever

thank you very, very much for upload this one

  • i dont understnad..is it just pure simbolism? Like Utena Revolutionary Girl(the movie)??..and this is sorta scarring me..sorryy i know ppl that alrady commented said that they loved it..but i dont understand the messege..<=[ im sorrrrry i love the art by the way..its so..realistic..but in the other hand ists animated too..and its soo strange..its sorta like the Gorillaz...

  • OMG! I used to love this film fifteen years ago, whe i was but a very young child. I could never understand what it was about---but I was always hypnotized by it. Thank you for uploading.

  • its so weird but at the same time you love it

  • Eerie and Hauntingly beautiful. Thank you for uploading it.

  • awesome Norstein

  • brilliant!

  • scary,happy, sad. I loved it

  • anyone knows what's the name of the piano piece here? I'm pretty sure it's by mozart, but i can't find it's name anywhere.

  • oh why is the youtube video quality so bad!

  • I know! He is my all-time favourite animator. The best thing about his animations is the quality of them isn't it?! Thanks for uploading it though it's so amazing ^_^

  • this is kind of kreepy...scarying me

  • kreepy? scary-ing? what is that?!? it's not english

  • Thanks for uploading it. It was just wonderful and perfect.
