Great vid man! I'd give you A+ :D At the beginning I didn't like fallout, because it's graphics sucked, but when I started playing for real... I just couldn't stop until I finnished the game. I understand what you mean, but RPGs aren't defined by their combat like other game genres are, an FPS will involve shooting people in a first person perspective, whereas, Fallout Baldur's Gate and Final Fantasy are all RPGs with vastly different combat systems
While the combat system helps define the flavour for these games, it's the world around the characters, as formed through art, dialogue, and music
Turn Based worked well for Fallout, I agree, but it's hardly the defining characteristic
RPGs can have any type of combat system as long as the character(s) can somehow improve on their skills/abilities through the player's choices. This is why Deus Ex is often referred ti as an RPG/FPS hybrid rather than a single genre.
I'm with you, DrunkSpleen. While fallout had one of the best iterations of the whole turn based AP systems, CORE of the gameplay? No. Thats what was great about fallout. If you worked the angles, had a high speech, science, etc, you could get out of most encounters. Playing a non-combative, intelligent, charismatic person was completely viable.

There needs to be more games like Fallout. Many gmaes now a days dont focus on stat checks, or actuall Role Playing, they focus more on level grinsing, or just plain klling.

If you mean the one at 5.47 then it's the Alien Blaster, it can only be found in a special encounter around the military base including a crashed UFO. Happy hunting!

But the gun is definitely worth it, dmg 30-90, reasonable range, one point faster then small plasma.

You need to redo the in-game intro capture so it plays at a watchable framerate. Other than that, love the video.

Fallout 1 & 2 were excellent in every way. Fallout Tactics on the other hand was complete rubbish.

I think it's even better. I love the retro, cold war look, just addictive. With a little patience you can get it on a torrent, like me. Good Luck! May the water you drink doesn't shine in the dark.

Fallout 1 is as good as Fallout 2, yes. Although it is not as versatile as Fallout 2, but well worth playing.

Soldier on the intro its a US army soldier shooting to Canadian civilian. Us army is a ancesor of the brotherhood of steel

There needs to be more games like Fallout. Many gmaes now a days dont focus on stat checks, or actuall Role Playing, they focus more on level grinsing, or just plain klling.

I have it, wish I bought the limited edition version. It does run slow sometimes, but for the most part it runs fine on my single nvidia 7800 gt.

Great video.. made me feel like the good old days (and mind you, I'm only 16) when I first acquired Fallout and started playing. Sheesh. Gotta go and run through the Wasteland once again.
Just a few things to point out - The whole video is terribly "sliced up" if you get my meaning. Probably didn't use any good moviemaking application, did you ?

And secondly, you totally missed out Monty Python's. Which, considering your british accent, is twice the shame. Fallout bears more reference to Pythons than to H2G2 ;)
On the whole, a cool project, although perhaps serving well only as a reminder of things past and great games that just aren't made any more...

I must agree with chie. This video really does take me back to the good ol days of Fallout. I sincerely hope that Fallout truly is not dead. We can only hope.
