John Bubbles was the father of ryhthm tapping. He taught it to Fred Astaire who was a ballroom tapper. He often dance with Eleanor Powell outside of the movies. Ellie thought he was the greatest rhythm dancer ever and had nothing but praise for him. He taught her his moves .You can see his influence in her dancing. He by all accounts was a lovely person. he deserves so much more credit.
@hajune Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell have to be the gold standard of compliments. Viewers might also like the video clip: Buck and Bubbles... Varsity Show (1937)
@oldtimecharlie I watched it. Wish there were more Bubbles videos. He had so much charisma. Much like Louis Armstrong just looking at them and how happy they presented themselves , it had to rub off. Bubbles had some very advanced dancing steps. If he were on Dancing With The Stars he'd be a cult hero. he is so much better then any of them. We owe Bubbles much!
I notice that this is a real early use of brushes on the drums . . . I rtead that Bix Beiderbecke's brother was actually the first to use them . . . don't really know, others say it was older . . .
I freakin LOVE this song and I was wondering who was singing although I knew this guy's voice was SO very familiar. I saw him on Cabin in The Sky and I remember how he was such a wonderful dancer taking an awful song like shine and turning into a work of art. He was smooth as silk and quite debonair in an era when black dancers had to clown on screen. I just didnt know he was apart of a team.
I can't believe there are no other comments or more viewers for Buck and Bubbles clips. Thank you for putting a clip on Youtube that is worthy of Youtube-space during my Youtube-time.
