Just read through the comments and i'm roflol, who cares what his name is, for those of us that played the older clasic games of sonic we know him as "Robotnik", those gamers that started playing sonic from SA1 will call him "Eggman". But it doesn't even really matter, it's the same fat, bald guy with an IQ of 300 and one ugly moustache.

This comment section is one of the most retarded things I've read. He was Doctor Eggman in the Jap story, and Dr. Ivo Robotnik in the US Story (dunno about other regions). By the time Adventure was released, Sonic Team wanted the Jap story to be the main one, but since Sonic was so big in the west they decided to keep some elements of the western storyline. His "real" name is Dr. Ivo Robotnik, and Eggman/Dr. Eggman is his nickname that Sonic gave him, which he himself decided to keep apparently.

So I'm pretty sure there are other people out there who call him Eggman because of that. His redesign is something completely different, though. But either way, they never took away his identity, since he still acts about the same. You could argue that Eggman, even though he looks different, is the character that SEGA still has a hold on his character.
