The truth is when he was around 16 he had his Michel Myers mask on and was eating chicken, he decided to put on the bucket messing around with his friends and went to look at a mirror and then thought "hmmm.Buckthead I like it" so now he wears it his own trademark .This is the real truth I have found it online on a biography of Brian Carroll (Buckethead).

Buckethead did pickup some cool licks and alt. picking technique from paul gilbert, and I think paul is better than satriani.
