British forces were in Ireland as a peacekeeping force. They were there as a neutral force trying to protect the democratic free will of the people of Northern Ireland. At no point did we declare an act of war during the troubles.

I'm Catholic AND have served with the British Army. I know the vast majority of people in Ireland hate the IRA - but the IRA does have strong backing in some towns. It is much like the support the BNP gets in Britain.
Northern Ireland should remain British because it was the Democratic freewill of those who live there to remain so.

When the Army were sent over, we couldn't care less about the troubles. When men got the order to go to Ireland all they could think about was the miserable weather, being abused by locals they felt they had no quarrel with and getting shot at by terrorists they couldn't understand.
We did come to hate the IRA, mainly because they were intent on killing us - and they were the reason for all the violence in the first place.

You can find it disgusting all you want. And no I didnt say that. The Good friday agreement is clear. The Unification of Ireland will be put to the people of N/I through the ballot box. This will continue for years to come. If the vote goes to the majority for unification then thats it. The number of nationalists returning to the North is increasing steadily and it is likely that the Vote will eventually go the nationalists. Maybe not in my lifetime but it will happen.
