How does the cam get the side of your helmet in the view? is it because it records at a wide angle or is the camera turned slightly towards your helmet?
Thanks a lot man...... I ride a busa here in Australia and looking to find a cam. Thanks so much for the information. I was going to go for the Go pro hero 1080 motorsports but your camera seems to be just as good for less price...
cool ideas you have there. i just got my drift hd mini in the mail yesterday and am setting it up on my helmet now to start vlogging. i like your editing skills. what program is it you use and is it easy? only thing im needing to figure out is how to get the video ready for youtube off the cam. it wont play on my comp due to old codec. well i subscribed to you check out my channel and sub if you like what im doin
Hey DF you can put the suction cup mount on the top of your gas tank if you ever take it to the track. It'd give a good perspective on how fast you go into straights and turns while also showing what rpms you shift at
I've been using a Drift HD for a while now. I like it a lot. Good work with all the different camera angles. That and an external mic are my next experiments. Great vid!
hey im a pretty new rider grew up racing dirt bikes all my life so u can imagin as soon as i turned 16 i was dieing to get a sportbike not to race but i love it if it has 2 wheels ha and im only 18 and was wonderin if you knew any other really good cameras but didnt cost so much not a very rich teenager :p any help i would enjoy
@kickerbass777 ...my first camera was a Canon Powershot SD780IS and it cost around $150 for everything.
It was very small, was capable of 720p HD video, and had decent picture/audio.
Of course it wasn't waterproof and had to go inside my helmet which I hated and found dangerous. I still use it till this day though for some inside video, and it got me threw my early days on YouTube....
@kickerbass777 there is a company called Epic that has a moderately priced HD POV camera too. I have the model number at home but am at the office right now. If I remember later, I will post the info and a vendor site or you can send me a PM and I will get it to you.
@NobodyVlogs ...pause the video at 2:12 and you'll see it wrapped around my triple.
Sometimes I find it hard to push the buttons though because it's not a perfectly flat surface. I always press the buttons several times and do it only at lower speeds so I can hear the different beeps. Always keep that focus on the road and your safety first, video making comes second...Ride safe :)
@vichimself69 ..you must be pissed they just released a new GoPro Hero2....I think if you contact their support they may cut you some kind of deal on the new one if you just bought an older one.
(Don't quote me on that though, I think I read that in the comments somewhere else)
@DarkFlightVlogs Meh the price was good so fuck it, it is what it is. Dude next year if I get a trailer me and a buddy were thinking of riding over there, you down?
great job on this one bud... will be very helpful to newbies and veterans alike.. I might have to try out the front fender cam.. great idea of chopping the goggle mount... I'm going to try that... I didnt find any extra smaller mounts with mine.. just goggle mount, helmet mount and handlebar mount (which I have on one of my mirror stalks)
@dafobra ...my only fear with the front fender cam is that the velcro will let go since it's on a curved surface and not 100% connected. Does that make sense?? I'm trying to say not all the velcro is touching on both the rough and soft pieces. Therefore I fear it may come off at high speeds, wheelie attempts or a large bump. If it comes off it may damage the rad/camera or you may run over it and have an accident. BE CAREFUL MAN. Cameras can be replaced.
be careful with that steering camera set up bud. I have a video where I took my gopro and put it on my friends Triumph Speed Triple and it was pretty shakey but my friend tried to replicate it on his GSXR. At some point his forks compressed too much and knocked his gopro off and he lost it for good.
As usual YT wont let me post a vid link here so Ill make it a video response or something.
@chasein3d ...yeah I just made a comment on your video and accepted the response. So did you do it exactly as I showed in my video?? Either way I guess you own the rights hey??....LMAO. Oh well like I said great minds think alike and I guess it's back to the drawing board for old DarkFlight ;)
@DarkFlightVlogs pshh, who gives a shit about who did what first dude. If it looks good and it entertains your audience then rock that shit out brother. Im going to be getting my drift suction cup mount soon to use with this mono pod. I cant wait to check out the stuff you can do with it. You have some awesome angles on your vids though dude, keep it up!
@GenomeSoldier71 ...funny caused I laughed hard when I heard that part as well. Funny someone else picked up on it. It's really hard to drive a motorcycle and say what you really mean to say. The brain is doing a million things at once and trying to keep me safe and alive...lol.
Sometimes my camera (bike cam, not helmet) wobbles when accelerating, and I need to hold the clutch in for a good picture, or is you bike just smooth a silk :)
@gogosor ...my bike is smooth as silk, but it sounds like your mount maybe to rigid or need some rubber/foam to dampen the vibrations. I'm sure it could be fixed or improved if your bike rumbles a lot....good luck with it :)
@alehax27 ....I'm the king of engine revving just ask my riding buddies.....LMAO
As you can see I was in total control of the situation and I knew I wouldn't hit her as I was paying attention. You can even hear me let off the throttle as I anticipated her doing it, I've been riding long enough to spot bad situations...lol.
There are after market motorcycle horns you can get that ring out at over 120+DB and only cost $40-$50 dollars.
Dear Mr. Darkflight, Thanks for the great video my questions is what date or range do you end your season? And what gear do you use to keep warm in the cooler month?
@maddoggmike ...the season ended last year for me on December 28th. That it kind of UN-common though as we usually wrap up sometime in November. Of course I speak of the hardcore riders as a lot of people put them away in Sept. or October when it becomes colder. I will only put the bike away when the city begins to use salt on the roads to melt ice, that salt destroys bikes :(
I wear the same gear year round just wear more layers underneath like hoodies, long thermal underwear etc...
Think I figured what irked me. Its the point of view. Not seeing the dash removes the element of seeing the ride from your point of view since the dash is a big piece of the picture. And when it's like this I just don't feel as drawn into the video like I always do on the rest of your rides (especially the music ones). Small thing eh, maybe I have OCD >.<
loving the front fender cam. Testing it on a bumpy road would atleast give you the worse case scenario. In the future would you consider sliding the mini window to the side. Something about hiding the dash takes away from the intrinsic enjoyment or 'realism' if that makes sense. It's like seeing someone wearing two left shoes, but not noticing it. You know something is off, and it irks you, but you just can't place what's wrong.
@Warspire ...yeah no problem. In all my other videos the window was to the side but I was just testing something new. I wanted to have it more centered since I would be showing things that demonstrated stuff, and wanted to keep it in the viewers main perspective. To be honest I don't like it covering the dash cluster either. Don't think I'll do it again.

I bought a couple extra mounts and only stuck one on top of my sidecase so far. Thought about the fender and now that I see it done I guess it works okay!
I've found the handle bar mount can go on quite a few places. Nice vid!
Hey DarkFlight, this is a good video. Great new angle. I use 2 GoPros and thought of setting one there but i felt it would be like you said "too jumpy". I never even bothered with it. Other than being too jumpy, I thought about the what ifs. What if under heavy braking my nose dips too much. It'll smash my fairing I think. And id I attempt a wheelie and come down too hard. That would be bad also. I have a new idea which I also think is new but don't want to spoil it. Take care bro
@CJLittos ....you can see the nose dip into the picture a few times while braking but the Drifts sleek profile makes it small enough that it would never hit even under heavy braking. I wouldn't attempt wheelies or anything until I had it more secure. Looking forward to seeing your new angle.
Nice vid, and btw i found your instructional videos extremely helpful since i got a 07 ZX6R..... Was wondering why you went with the drift instead of gopro, looking into getting a camera and was wondering why you made your choice on drift.
@soldierwillis ...I chose Drift simply because it offers the most features for the price. They are both priced similar and the Drift had things like the external mic which I needed for vlogging. It also had the remote control which is great for safety and cuts out unwanted recording at red traffic lights. The night mode is also a really nice feature unique to the Drift. This list goes on but the simple answer is that it had more features and a better bang for the buck.
1) I just got my Drift in the mail today, so stoked! Unfortunately I don't have a mic or editing software yet, still making decisions. 2) Once I get my setup I'll show you a terrible road we have here. 3) Great informative video... this probably should have been number one 4) Honda for the win Hahahahaha I kid, I kid ;)
I really like these Drift set ups..unfortunately I got my GoPro before everyone hopped on the Drift train. Guess I know what's going on my Christmas list, haha
actually looks prettty stable from what i can see on the smaller screen, also the handle bar mount on the peg is ingenious lol woulda never thought of that
