I agree Sheldon made Emily have a better personality but she always had a personality to me. She got better with Sheldon because she totally got over her crush on Derek. Which wasn't even that bad to be honest with you. She became more herself and I really respect that about her. I've seen "Surprise" and Emily is totally different. She doesn't even come on to Derek. He comes on to her. Emily's personality got better and Casey's got way worse. That's what I think.
I can't get the image of Casey squeeing and jumping up and down at becoming a cheerleader out of my head. Especially when Emily was standing right there calm and cool as anything.
I really wish I could like Demily. It seems lately whatever I read/see, my couple just goes unpaired (not that I expected Dasey, but an open ending would've done it.) But *Derek* coming on? Man, unbelievable. What with Barbie!Casey and Sweet!Derek, they're way more canon in *fanfics* than the actual show.
I know exactly what you mean. Emily was always portrayed as a little shallow. So it was completely in her favor, that she liked Sheldon, even after all his...Sheldoness. It gave her character a lot of depth. And that's why we liked Emily. But having a rushed romance cuz the season's ending, is just...disappointing. If it had been slow growing, maybe we'd have adjusted. (I haven't even seen the episode and I'm already dreading it.)
Emily with Sheldon gave her so much more depth, single Emily gave everyone a good friend. A plus on both accounts. But to have her revert back to her "old ways", so to speak, was to undo all the character growth that she had undergone for the past three seasons.
Can Daphne not leave her main characters single for two seconds?

Derek gets good grades (after a lifetime of slacking), Casey loosens up (ie starts wearing the stuff that her feminist soul would have scorned before)

Wow! Interesting song. It was so random that Emily starts dating Derek. If they wanted Demily to happen, they would have made it happen in Season 2 instead of brooming Emily's feelings for Derek aside and giving us so much Dasey.
