poetic genius! i first became aware of his music when i was 16, in 1981 and have been a huge fan ever since! One of the great writers of his generation and a damn fine musician as well. Rest in peace and thank you for sharing your talents and soul with us on this journey.
this is mo than music man... i cant stop listennin 2 it... its like singin the history of all afro latin indian americans who been opressed de whole life 4 this capitalism shit seen...... perfect drums... give thanks gil scott-heron keep it real this is eternal!
The first time I heard this song I was about 8 years old. It really moved me in a way that I could not understand at the time. But you know, in my household my parents were playing Gil, Nina Simone, The Last Poets and the Watts Prophets. Also the Tempation's "Puzzle People" album was often spinning on our hi-fi. The song "Message From A Black Man" I still listen to this very day some 40 years later. Great post!!
Bad Ass Melanin Meditation Music here!! Nuff Homage to the Great Gil Scott Heron!! My first time hearing this cut was this morning on Brother Hodari's show on 89.3 WPFW out in DC.......Nuff respect to the God bringing this Real Shit out!! The drumming---Fire, lyrics--Fire.....please believe this album is copped if I can find it!!
this is beautiful black music with a wonderful message unlike the music today thats why i feel like this generation is so sick and pitiful cause no one tells them what they should be doing and what lifes about so they have no direction and they think its all about the rims and chains and bitces and dope
does anyone know the name of the lady who is singing with him in this song..ive heard her on many of his great songs but cannot seem to figure out who she is..does anyone know??
