@pflau1 Yes they will match. 99% of Gold Emblems you see on cars were once chrome and were plated by someone. We do it at the new car dealers every day. Yes we plate screws too. Just make sure they are either chrome or brass screws first. Not stainless steel, aluminum or zink plated ones.

From what I know, it's an electrical process which transfers ions of metals from one electrode to another, depending on the current applied. In this case the electrodes are the brushes and the metal for deposit is in the electolyte gel. The current generator is off camera field but you can see the wires connected to the brushes. Hope it helps.

Took about 2 hours. Corrosion risk is there, but minimal. Chemicals used are fairly dilute and we rinse VERY well.

Yes you can. Often though, copper is plated FIRST with nickel before the gold goes on.

Thanks. We usually use a lacquer based clear coat or a product called GLISTEN PC™ which is a Rock Hard clear topcoat designed for spray or brush application over all metal surfaces, including highly polished aluminum and chrome surfaces.

Why do you brush on a cooper layer? is it to give more durability to the finished item? will it gave the gold a slightly darker lower shade like 20k or rose gold?

I am new to elecroplating, I did my own taps the other day, I sripped them of chrome, activated and gold plated a good few layers of 24k on the taps, should i have given it a cooper base after activation then gold layers after?

We used the copper because the faucets were OLD and slightly scratched and pitted. We used the coper to give a uniform base color for the plating as well as fill in some of the scratches.

Why would you wax the finished gold surface? I thought gold wasn't couldn't corrode?

The wax "cleans" the finished gold surface which may have residual water spots or "gold salt" deposits which look like a white powder and the wax also makes the gold really SHINE.

very clever. i do non-electroconductive material/resoration plating,as a hobby, and found the description of the process misleading. its said that a thick layer of copper is used? where.. maaaate! what .0000001 of a micron? you didnt even take the tap off the sink! i do this stuff everyday, and the copper base must be thick enough to withstand even coverage and polishing. how do you deal with servere pitting mate? i repair rusted and servere pitting, AND RECHROME IT EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK!

The copper plate must only be VERY VERY thick on items NOT previously coated with copper/nickel as in the type of plating that you do on virgin surfaces. On THIS particular sink, all that needed to be done was scuff up the surfacee with ultra fine sand paper 400 then 1500 grit, polish THEN plate with copper, which the needed no further polishing. The sink wasn't badly rusted or pitted.

By the way we TOO do this EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK SEVERAL TIMES A DAY.
