Metallica did baladish songs way earlier then Nothing Else Mathers, some of the best songs from Lightning, Pupets and Justice are the slow songs, The "trash tone" sounds amazing with clean guitars and diminished chords, Even Slayer did some clean riffs with the same sound. So it's really not that strange that other bands snaped it up aswell, and pretty much all of em did.

Even Low, which was an intense and very heavy album contained a ballad, Trail Of Tears. And, Chuck Billy has stated that their new, upcoming album has a ballad on it. in the end its just a song. and megadeth had some sort of ballads...but not quite i suppose. their other material still stands strong. but at least testamnt never made a cold lake.

kumbaya my lord, kumbaya! I would like to think MTV for this kinda garbage coming from a great metal band. This is what killed metals popularity in the 80's. We had enough boy band pop on the radio we didn't need MTV's recipe. 5 cups long hair, 2 cups guitar, 1 cup chick lyrics, 1 cup slow poppy beat and one heaping spoonful of sellout. True metal is not soft. that's the hole reason for the name "METAL" this is more like cotton.
