  • Não me canso! :D

  • Uma das melhores....

  • Maravilhoso!!!!! :D

  • Maravilhoso!!!!! :D

  • when was track recorded?

  • I really want to learn this!!!

  • This touched my soul. Touched my soul it did. Haiz =_=

  • I got chills = D

  • He sounds lovely! Just a tad bit slow on my side :) Thank you for sharing this wonderful recording!

  • @nihontonman- checking things out, the version of the Chaconne I heard on You Tube was the one by Nathan Milstein, not Goldstein! But listen to it anyway, it's really exquisite!

  • Best chaconne by 10 miles

  • Played with great depth of feeling and tenderness.

  • No tengo palabras para describir la magnificencia de Oistrakh*****

  • Beautiful timeless piece of music played by a timeless artist.

  • Nobody played the Vitali Chaconne like my late husband, Nathan Goldstein, who played as a soloist many years ago; but then, because of circumstances of need because of marriage and children, joined the New York Philharmonic for almost forty years. Nathan had the passion and tenderness that this piece is all about.

  • @wildstoneflower I just listened to the video of your husband playing this piece, and yes, it was absolutely exquisite! Very passionate, and the performance is so clean, both he and the pianist working together- I take my hat off! What an incredible musician he was!

  • @ellenlinn7 you got me intrigued, where did you listen to it?

  • This is his soul singing to us. Literaly!

  • Is this just me or does this sound remarkably similar to the Bruch violin concerto? Like almost identical?

  • No musician this good has talent that is god given. I'm pretty sure the 50,000 hours of practice and dedication had more to do with it.

  • Can you people stop comparing versions? They're all different. I've heard all of them and it's not like they have "more passion" or "less passion". Seriously. They all have the beautiful elegant qualities of this piece and they all recognize the fact that each and every note is absolutely necessary.

  • @VibrantPride that is not true at all -_- some have more passion than others and you can hear it in their playing.

  • @iLessThan3Jesus Do you seriously measure passion? If you can't hear the beauty in everyone's different style of playing, then... I believe you're the one at loss. Once a person gets to Oistrakh, Sarah Chang, or any other famous violinist's level and is famous for their skill, it's not a matter of the amount of passion anymore because there are so many people that love their music just the way it is.

  • His gift was God given. <3 The most beatiful version I've heard on YT. We can all learn from his interpretations.

  • Presumably the 9 'dislikes' are BeeGees fans!....

  • There was one Oistrakh and he his performance reached all the layers of the soul

He was and is the best violinist

  • i like iiiiiiiitttt!!!!!!!!!!

  • The best Performance of Vitali's Chacconne that I have ever heard! It's just the way I need to hear it... wow...

  • 05:50 the happy sounding part. love this part played by him.

sounds like a lover reminisce about a beautiful memory, and then come back to the reality that he needs to leave his lover. :)

  • It's a hot summer night and yet my skin is full of goosebumps.

  • Lascia senza fiato

  • 音色好奇怪?是录制问题还是琴的问题?听过的版本挺多的,第一次听到这么处理这首曲子速度的演奏,有几段感觉非常棒!!!!

  • Am I the only one who perceives obvious similarities between this chaconne and Bach's one ? Especially at the end ?

  • @InXLsisDeo no because its the same type of compositions?its expected to have similarities between them.

  • Vraiment superbe

  • fabulous vibrato...

  • BRAVO!!! The best!

  • bravo

  • Such beauty, such emotion... such mastery... I love seeing how differently each master interprets a piece.

  • It`s just a fabulous piece of music. It sends shivers down my spine.

  • Nascerà un altro Oistrackh quando rinascerà un altro Mozart

  • He doesn't always play like this. Fact is his sound is always beautiful but often I would rather watch paint dry than listen to him, he is often boring, turgid and lacking in variety. Yet here he has intensity, poetry, colour, and at no loss to his usual tonal quality. I often wondered if he was so non controversial because he was from behind the iron curtain, and was just toeing the party line. Reckon he was let out for the day here, awesome!

  • i would listen and listen to oistrakh, knowing that even if i tried and tried, i wouldnt be able to produce such a beautiful sound from even the same violin. but even so, this song is still so amazing that it makes me keep trying until i can do as well i can, but as we all know, there is no limit to the songs, even for the greatest of them all.

  • @violinpenguinfreak i agree. i hope some day, if i practice really hard, I could at least get close to his level. i love his version better than sarah chang... more passion... very very beautiful.

  • @PinkyWhite01 yeah, that's true. sarah chang is a undeniably great violinist, but i didnt quite really enjoy the way she interpreted chaconne. my opinion was that oistrakh's version spoke more out to me than sarah chang's.

  • this is the first time ive heard this, and omg i have been missing out..

  • Why is this rendition a quarter tone (or more) flat?

  • @AbsoluteZ3R0 The piano sounds out of tune.

  • @simcha181818 No, the piano is in tune. The recording as a whole is flat, but not "out of tune"

  • @AbsoluteZ3R0

Recordings, when put on youtube, or converted from one file type to another carelessly, often shift up or down a quarter tone, it's interesting and unfortunate. That's one possible explanation. Another is that we've tuned up (We're now tuning between about A 442-444) and he could be tuned as low as A 438 or 436. Another is that this was simply converted off a record, and it's possible the tone was either printed incorrectly or was worn down over time.

  • @marlowespirals Most likely it's done using baroque tuning.

  • perfect.

  • I don't care how blunt and forward this sounds, but Sarah Chang beats this version by a landslide.

  • @haleyelizabethmiller Sarah Chang does have a very nice version of this, but it's just that her interpretation is more modern than Oistrakh's. But if we were to talk about the amount of skill present, depth and character, Oistrakh would win by more than a landslide. Oistrakh plays this piece so delicately. Chang is great as well, but her's is more straight forward. Her interpretation is very impressive though.

  • @haleyelizabethmiller Have you heard Heifetz' version? It's chillingly intense!!

  • oistrakh has a more sad beauty in his piece. its amazing

personally i was taught to play it in heifetz's style.... but this is lovely too!

a musician's greatest skill is... versatility!

  • His vibrato is simply wonderful.

  • Magic melody

  • beautiful.

    4:10 - 4:11

    a signature oistrakh shift.

  • this is the most amazing classical piece ever.

  • Is it just me or is he a little flat? I'm sure it's just the old recording. No way Oistrakh would have intonation problems lol.

  • @jonz94 I hear it! sometimes in minor keys people get flat and don't realize it. but....c'mon, it's Oistrakh! :p probably the recording.

  • Oh, my dear!!!!

What kind of sense, Oistrakh was great!!!... he's still!

  • Wow...but i expect nothing less from this legend. Where are today's oistrakh, heifeitz, menuhin, milstein, stern, francescatti, elmen? Where have they gone? I mean no disrespect to todays wonderful artists, but lets be frank, they can't even begin to compare to these natural wonders of the world. If we ever get the chance to share our art with another sentient species, let's hope we show them this and not 50 cent or eminem or lady gaga...jeese, we have lost our way lol

  • @garrrynec yes!

  • @garrrynec they stil exist, but they are more in isolation... we have artists like maxim vengerov and itzhak perlman, great violinists and we have songwriters like thom yorke who expand music within their genres in our modern age... all I want is one great composer comparable to Rachmaninoff, V. Williams, beethoven, bach etc.

  • Im usually a fan of Heifetz bit David Oistrakh really took the cake on this peice. Bravo. Bravissimo.

  • this song is great!!!!!!!!!!! but it sounds kinda sad......I love it though

  • Oh men, what a nice interpretation .. i've got no words ..

I hope i get to play like this . *.*

  • It is just WONDERFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It is just WONDERFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @IlidaCullen * WONDERFUL

  • he just shat all over my violin skills

  • I would love to hear this piece by period isntruments, this it sound too romantic for my taste.

  • Makes me cry ... :')

  • This is my favorite interpretation of the Vitali Chaconne. :)

  • 一昔前の弾き方だなあ。20世紀半ばはこんな感じだった。楽譜も現代的にアレンジしていて。たまに聞くにはいいけども流行の弾き方は時代が変わるとなんか物足りないです。

  • Excellent!

  • Best verion EVER !

  • WoW ! Magnifique ! He is the best !

  • The sound is so pure and amazing. This is the best Vitali Chaconne ever.

  • How can i download this?

    This is beautiful!!

  • @aratanozomi

    video2mp3 (.net)

conevrts youtube vids to mp3s =)

  • Beautiful!!!!!

  • doesn't sound too hard, but you know it's not easy.

  • @woodmaster413 so true, my teacher just assigned it to me, some tough technique and passages

  • @woodmaster413 not too hard, but there are a couple of spots that are really difficult!

  • loove oistrakh!! i bet it would sound great w/ the orchestra

  • it's meant to be played with organ

theres a recording on youtube of heifetz playing it with organ

  • actually (idk if my comment went through), my bad

the original only has an ostinatto accomp. the piano and organ accomps were written later, any orchestrations are new

  • have you the original sheet? it would be great to see it. I thing every version we found today is a modification from the genuine chaconne..

  • @Mnacuspia004 well, If you're interested, since the original Vitali arrangement (if he indeed wrote it), it was arranged by a fellow named Ferdinand David, then later by Léopold Charlier, and eventually by Leopold Auer, who popularized the piece by introducing it to his studio at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Among his students were jascha Heifetz, Mischa Elman, Efrem Zimbalist, etc, who each performed it at various times in their careers.

  • this is the best version of this piece on youtube, maybe the best i've ever heard, but I dont think David is the best violinst, its hard to put on number on just one, they all have their of days, but my fav to listen to is kogan, i have heard nothing but good from him, Pearlman like to take to much liberties with alot of things, and David has a couple recordings on here that arent top quaility

  • touching, heartbreaking... aaagghhh makes me cry! :_D

  • so touching

  • my teacher was really good friend with oistrach today my techer is already 87 years old he is from israel his name is ziserman(last name)

  • yes yes of course Lied!!!

  • i hate how people compare all these versions. listen and enjoy they're different because they are people who are different. appreciate them for who they are and enjoy their wonderful music

  • @KittyPlaysViolin How absolutely right you are!! If everyone played everything the same way, how boring that would be? I like to hear different interpretations of a piece as it expresses that musician's individuality (as long as the interpretation doesn't stray too far from the composer's original intentions).

  • @KittyPlaysViolin Only by comparing and contrasting can one make intelligent judgments. Nothing is more insipid than the "everyone's version is valid and good, only different" approach. There can be more than one great rendition but many fall short of acceptable quality.

  • @2ndviolinist Sorry for the confusion, I did not mean that necessarily everyone's version is perfect and correct. Many who have not mastered the piece could produce less than acceptable renditions I agree there I meant to say that the versions of the masters such as Francescatti, Oistrakh, Milstein, etc or those who have truly mastered this piece are beautiful works different from each other. I wouldn't necessarily say that Francescatti's faster tempo is better than Heifetz's for example :]

  • @KittyPlaysViolin

Then stop reading the comments. Problem solved.

  • @KittyPlaysViolin if u hate people don`t listen music...

  • @KittyPlaysViolin --AMEN to that! Give several different painters the same kind of paint brush and the same kind of canvas and they all paint differently. *"*They express THEMSELVES artistically** Kitty..you play violin? Oh TEACH me!--Joni

  • Incredible. He was just a genius.

  • Oistrakh is always stunning ....I love this so much ....

  • oistrakh is to me the best violinist , because his music better than heifetz and anyone else

  • i see now what most say.. he puts so much emotion into this song compared the to heifetz version (sorry for comparing lol) both have some very key parts they do well. i may use a little bit of both while practicing this piece. i love this song so much..

  • oistrakh is magic

  • Magnificent

  • I LOVE Oistrak's version, no matter what they say.

  • Oistrakh spoils us all

  • which edition is this? my one is so different from that!

so many other parts... wanna play this ;)

  • This is the Leopold Charlier edition which he tweaked the piece a bit to make it into a more virtuosic piece. The original written/edited by Ferdinand David is different. They are usually treated as different pieces however.

  • What is a chaconne BTW ? We have Bach's chaconne, Vitali's chaconne ...............

  • Chaconne (or passacaglia) = contrapuntal variations, variations on basso ostinato

  • A passacaglia is possibly different from a Chaconne. They are still debating.

From my understanding, a Passacaglia repeats the ground bass (basso ostinato) while a Chaconne repeats a harmony or a harmonic progression with variations within the harmony.

  • In my opinion is Passacaglia the same as Chaconne. The only difference can be that Passacaglia is usually in 4/4 and Chaconne in 3/4 measure. My opinion.

  • @horaacek Well this chaconne is in 3/2. lolz

  • It doesn't matter if 3/2 or 3/4 or 3/8... The main thing are three beats per measure :)

    Btw. I played this so I know it's 3/2 :)

    Bye

  • i believe its a type of dance.... not sure though

  • @mika41793 nah, not really haha. but if you want to dance to this, go right ahead ;)

  • If anybody has heard Jacques Thibauds interpretation of this song it is also very beautiful.

  • what beauty !!!!!!!!!!!

  • wonderful playing, excellent sound quality also

  • Beautiful...the sound is incredible!

  • and amazing playing of course!

  • really good sound quality in this vid! :)

  • C'est si beau... C'est en entendant ce genre de musique que je me dis, finalement,j'ai de la chance de vivre.

  • Oistrakh has a great sound. And he plays chaconne very expressive.

  • Milstein plays another arrangement, which is not played by anyone else...

  • truly and simply magnificient - what a grandeur!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bellissimo il suono!!!! si vede che ha una grande musicalità e buon gusto! questo è davvero innato!!!! oistrakh è un mito!!!!!!

  • i really love the way he plays this piece, you can really feel his soul pouring out of his violin ... just love this piece so much, one of the best ones ever composed

  • Comment removed

  • what is the original arrangement? im soo confused? can anyone give me some music sheet?

  • there isn't really an original arrangement. nobody knows who really wrote this piece . the accepted rumor is that vitali did not write this but some later romantic composer did. there is no known origin. BUT, this is the most common version. sarah chang plays a condensed arrangement.

  • It is generally believed that Ferdinand David--the man who premiered the Mendelssohn and wrote its cadenza--wrote this piece.

  • excuse me where can i get the heifetz version? T_T

  • what version playing of heifetz i wanna know -cause i am making this vitalina chacone

  • So beautiful!

  • which version is this one?

  • i apologize for messing up this comment page.

  • emotionally this piece was good, but in technique it certainly wasn't perfect. That's why I'm frustrated, cause people who say oistrakh is better than heifetz generally completely ignore his technical superiority. That being said, I believe that oistrakh is just as good as heifetz, just different fields.

  • I`d also agree that Heifetz is technically better than Oistrakh was.

In listening you have to seperate the technical- from the emotional part of the piece, then make your choice which musician you more prefere. It depends on the piece, the musician, 'sometimes' the recorded quality, and your own standards, which one your favorit is. Heifetz introduced 'technally accurate' playing in his time, but Oistrakh plays passionated.

Both excellent musicians, but Oistrakh stole my heart...

  • Please, no more discusions of kind "who is better, oistrakh or heifetz?", it's an ignorance exercise.

Both are gods of violin, by different ways. So that.

  • its a half step flat, the recording was probably skewed

  • but I like it BETTER a half step flat. I think it sounds more romantic.

  • y do i keep thinking that it sounds a bit flat...either that, or the same piece played by heifetz was sharp...or im just stupid...nevermind

  • it makes me cry hays truly amazing

there are so many great musicians all around the world

and there all very inspiring people.

ill do my best to in playin my violin and playin music to people

  • He is better man who play chaconne excellent. I know about heifetz he play fantastique.

  • This is definitely my favourite recording of this piece. It has the tenderness along side the raw emotion the piece gives out. And the slide at 00:32 is just perfect! No one else has done that!

  • i have....and i am sure many others have too.

  • This has been my fav interpretation of this piece out of all the greats - it has a gentleness and melancholy and the other don't really have, or communicate as well. I really love his playing!

  • After hearing this, I had to go and find the sheet music. Have been practicing for a few weeks now.. it's tough! but I have made it one of my goals in life. Must master Chaconne Vitali!!

  • good luck :)

  • It's really beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this piece of music played by Oistrakh. And I agree with you on the 'do not compare' part. :D

  • Sorry to contradict this video's poster but - this really is the best. Oistrakh was the greatest - what a sad loss his untimely death was to the world!

  • dying in his 70s isn't really considered untimely. but he was a great musician.

  • Thank you!!!!!!! fav

  • that pity! oistrakh wasn't play chaconne in D by J.S.Bach!!!!

  • Thank you very much for all those videos you have uploaded.

Thank you also for the instigation to listen and not compare.

  • i have to play this for my jury coming up, so i'm listening to many different recordings. Oistrakh is definetly a great one! i'll have my hands full cause this piece is so hard but so beautiful!

  • wow, its so good. its so amazing

  • One word: WOW

  • This song is so unique in the sense that it rips my heart apart but touches my soul at the same time. Great song played by great musician. I dare to use the word "perfect" for Vitali's Chaconne.

  • El Rey de los violinistas.

  • Thank-you very much for uploading this piece; it is very beautiful and I love listening to this piece.

  • The prince of the violin ... indisputable master!

  • kids is really a monster ........ ......... because you know one of the greatest violinists of all time could not do otherwise
