The self-immolation and suicides of Tibetan monks an nuns must cause him a heavy heart an agitation, but his training mitigates that. The loss of their life at their own hands is so serious and utterly terrible! Buddha taught that suicide out of desperation to end our suffering in our present life was completely antithetical to the dharma and in ending that suffering! He said we will only go down to the lower realms and face more extreme levels of suffering we couldn't imagine we would suffer!
@Varavaken You are right about motivation! So what will the CCP do to families and friends of these monks/nuns? They do set paramilitary, police, and army out to arrest, beat up, torture, imprison and possibly kill suspected collaborators. Tibetans know this! Is that selfish? Using skillful means for H.H. rules out desperate measures because of expected consequences! We should protest in free nations! H.H. is against suicide by Tibetans to compel a brutal killing machine to change its pathology.
I don't think any of us truly can know the amount of pressure this man has to bear. It is remarkable at the shear scope of his responsibility as the spiritual head of the Tibetan monastic schools of the Nalanda tradition of Mahayana, adopting the highest Madhyamaka (Prasangika sub-school). On top of that he his the moral and global voice of the Tibetan people, whether they are Buddhist, Bonpo, Muslim, Christian, or whatever. What an amazingly sincere, honest, pragmatic, and practical teacher!
@Julien09348 Hello Julian! The Tibetan monks self-immolation are NOT BCOZ of their own suffering and depression! They did it for immediate cease of CHINESE TORTURE and RELIGIOUS RESTRICTION.Buddha sacrificed himself to save a hungry tigress who is about to eat her own newborn cubs. Its not ANTITHETICAL to Dharma if it is for the welfare of others! They are WAKE-UP CALL for the world and for the iron-hearted Chinese Government for a better human right for the 6 MILLION TIBETANS AND OTHERS !
@lochoetadin The CCP has NO INTENTION to change their brutal, discriminatory colonial oppression of the Tibetans by being compelled to do so through multiple acts of suicide? Certainly not by external pressure. China's lack of ideological belief in the genuine inherent worth of individual Chinese citizens and minority members (that they don't consider to be "Chinese") is blatant. Ordinary Chinese people must react! Desperate frustrated young Tibetans, His Holiness doesn't agree to self immolate.
Chinese people do react to party corruption, human rights abuses, land grabs, poisoned food and water etc. They are not passive. It´s impossible to censor all Chinese bloggers...
thank you so very much :)

listen to his speech...
Signs of moral decline..(13:38) - he´s quite critical of some modern Tibetan lamas and teachers.

"Lower realms"? You´re not quite right.
It depends on their motivation.
Their motives are NOT selfish.

You´re right!
These monks (and one nun) sacrificed themselves for Tibet´s cause.
Governments around the world should put pressure on China.
