  • oh the guests he had over the years....anyone got the Welk episodes with Iggy Pop or David Bowie? lol...funny stuff, this vid

  • thankyou thankyou, get down and get fuuunky.

  • Wow, I didn't know that Larry and the Boys wanted to get down and be funky!

  • This is absolutely fantastic.

  • OMG looks so much like it could have been a number from the show

  • wow! vu is more conservative than i imagined

  • you're a genius!

  • it strangely matches the pace of the vid

  • Ah, wundafall, wundafall...

  • This is hillarious

  • @coolsweetgroovy ..it's a miracle is what it is, thank you, D !!

  • @coolsweetgroovy it's a miracle wonderful thank you !!

  • @FinallyunderstandU you're welcome CC

  • And they even used Vox equipment just like VU did! (check out 2:01). Nice!

  • An early You Tube clip. Made famous by promotion of many Rock Magazines. Infact, it was this clip...all these years ago, that bought me to "You Tube"!

  • I'm assuming the only reason this is the single version is because there wasn't a 20 minute lawrence welk clip that would work.

  • twin 88s... lawrence always knew how to rock the house. wunerful wunerful

  • How impressive. a rock group in the lawrence welk show what a rarity.

  • Wunnerful, wunnerful.

  • This is funny. I wonder about the audience reaction to dancing to hippie music?

  • Damn, I wished they preformed 'Heroin' on the Laurence Welk show! :P

  • Fun fact: Everyone on the Lawrence Welk Show was on heroin too.

  • This is what happens when old people try to look cool.

  • high on the popularity charts

  • genius

  • Very funny!

  • Is this a preview of The Rapture?

  • check out lawrence welk plays reign in blood, even funnier

  • and now, some nice young fellows from london, the Sexy Pistols!

  • imagine a giant band playing this song? that'd be TITS

  • Who ever made this video is awesome.

  • one of the first videos I enjoyed on youtube . Nice to see it somewhat acknowledged.

  • Hilarious!

  • I couldn't stop laughing at the shot of the people dancing xD

  • my uncle made this video, no joke

  • @atumnalequinox6895 Tell your uncle he needs to make more Welk mashups

  • YES !!! I am feeling the evolution of my soul take place as these unexpected vibrations flow into my being !!! I am amazed that Mr. Lawrence Welk would be so bold as to bring forth the Velvet Underground's magical harmonies. Amazing.

  • WTF

  • WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM WHIP IT ON ME JIM

  • @alto100 The Velvets were based in NYC, dude

  • @alto100 That was so brilliant...I have to post the video with this comment. alto 100, you are frickin genius!

  • @alto100 - I could care less about your blessings or your curses. I didn't care about blessings or curses before I knew I was queer - I don't know why I would after. And that includes, I might add, the blessings or curses of the gay community, if such a thing actually existed, which it doesn't, partially sad to say...

  • I think some people need to get their head out of their arse and get a sense of humour

  • 17 minutes of pure adrenaline... insane.

  • Heh, I bet my dad shut the TV off when he saw this back in '68. LOL

  • this is nice and nutty. thank you!

  • @alto100 : You're absolutely right! How dare they dub that "fag" Lawrence Welk video on a Velvet Underground song. Shit don't make sense, dawg!

  • @alto100 Wow....you really must have some personal issues my friend...I hope you work those out. You seem obsessed with graphic homosexual imagery as an insult. I'm strait and secure in that fact...So its hard for me to grasp homosexuality as an insult, but my experience is that people who think in this fashion do so because they themselves have deep seated sexual identification issues...they hate their own sexual feelings & project it outward as a defense. Your prejudices define you. Get help

  • lmao at the old farts dancing to it

  • That is the funniest damn thing I've seen in a while.

I was looking for Lenny Bruce's routine about Welk interviewing a junkie musician for a spot in the band, when I found this.

    Wunnerful, wunnerful!

  • At about the 2:08 mark and on it gets downright eerie-real as the camera pans out and all the musicians in the frame actually look like they're really Playing Lou Reed. Hilarious

  • I thought they looked stoned....Gonna break out my L, welk albums out now.

  • @stemy76 -- You SAVED them?! lol

  • I truly love you.

  • If Lou Reed was still alive, he might find this funny.

  • @wberdan He's still alive...

  • @matt7777777 I think that was a joke!

  • Next week, Patti Smith, Joe Jackson, and Randy Newman.

  • Lou Reed should sue.

  • Kick out the Jams, a vun und a two...

  • Man, how did I miss that one when my father made me watch Lawrence Welk with him?

  • This is very unusual of Lawrence Welks to perform this song? Mostly easy listening, show tunes and big band, along with polka music. I would like to know the electronic keyboard being played besides the piano?

  • @patsaxon well it's not the real vid but the keyboard in the video looks to be a Vox Continental and the one in the song is some sort of heavily distorted electric organ, maybe a Vox (they were pretty popular back then).

  • In 100 years they'll look back and call the period from 1960 to 1980 the greatest period in electrified band music. It will all be regarded as great. They will play Lawrence Welk, Pink Floyd, The Stones, Beatles, Velvet Underground, The Doors ( ah' The Doors!!!), Both Jimmy Smiths- the one in the U.S. who's black and the one in the U.K. who is white...who incidentally both rip on the organ.

There is no list big enough to contain all of the best music in this period. As you get older U love more!

  • @metamorphosis67 Shut up you moron you're ruining everyone elses fun can't you take a joke?

  • @metamorphosis67 Why wouldn't I notice? Why wouldn't Lawrence Welk's abilities be recognized? Sure some of the stuff got cheesy in the color days, but he had amazing arranging abilities and his musicians not only could play their instruments well, but they were all very creative. I guess I'm just fortunate enough to love music enough to play guitar for 20 years and then pick up the electronic organ and actually give music that I used to make fun of as a teen a second chance. Watch my playlists.

  • @paulj0557 I agree with you ignore the other guy

  • I been high on da popularity jars too

  • would be fun shooting up with lawrence welk

  • haha amazzzzzzzzing

  • Oh, ist dieses so wundervoll! GesamtHeimat! Ich diente mit Lawrence Welk im Waffen SS auf der östlichen Frontseite, in Einsatzgrupen XI, bevor er zu Strasburg, North Dakota am Ende von WWII - eine erstaunliche Nazi des alten Skool floh!

  • What percentage of the folks dancing voted for Nixon?

  • Cale looks really healthy in this clip. You know, kind of happy.

  • Ha ha! Brilliant piece of old-school synch, shaw.

  • yeah man lawrence went an scored a tenner bag of gear borrowed a spoon some VIT C went and cooked his shit up,found a good vein cos the rest were knackered and had a dig!! maybe he even mixed his brown with some crack and had a snowball yer jus never know with old man lawrence

  • Comment removed

  • Brilliant!!!

  • Man, I didn't know Vox made a spinet organ. Nice Lawrence Reed music.

  • super!

  • andy loved it.

  • The first 30 seconds of this record is the greatest piece of recorded music ever.

  • haha so funny, cheers

  • Lawrence Welk was always a big Lou Reed fan! I hope that someone can post his definitive take on "Walk On The Wild Side" and "Femme Fatale!"

  • Oh, I am SO embarrassed at how many seconds into this I got before I realized what was going on...I'm all, "Really?! LW did Velvet Underground??!!" Absolutely hilarious!

....now, in my defense, I had just watched Dale and Gail cover "One Toke." Tell me you would have expected THAT....

  • OMFG are you kidding me! Phenomenal!!! Hmmm banjo really

  • OMFG are you kidding me! Phenomenal!!!

  • Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

  • One of the first vids I checked out on YT. Not much else better than this.

  • hhahahahah i believed it you asshole FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • Ohh The Good Ole Days,,,,The music, the styles, Everything was very wonderful.

  • whip it on me, lawrence!!! dats- a nice

  • They were rockin'!!! :P

  • Pissing my pants laughing on dancers at 50 second point. Wunderful! Wunderful!

  • That is NOT the Velvet Underground in the video!!!

  • @CatapultYourMom : you are too clever for us Naughty People.

  • @CatapultYourMom REALLY ??!! Oh, Sweet Jane!! I've been cheated!

  • When I watch this today, with the way different styles come at us on advertisements, film, etc, this doesn't sound so entirely wrong. The Velvets really were the future, and here we are in it. If they'd done Sunday Morning (and made it danceable), Welk might have invited them back.

The Velvets recorded their "loud" album White Light/White Heat right after they got a bunch of VOX amps and stuff. Funny to think that these guys might have played some of the same equipment.

  • anyone have the Welk episode with Iggy Pop performing "I Wanna Be Your Dog"?

  • Didn't Welk explode his accordion toward the end of this performance with technical assistance from Keith Moon and the Smothers Bros. sloppy stagehands? Why was this edited out?

  • most folks don't know it,but Welk had a 14"inch penis and would chase the dancing gals round with it in the dressing rooms! Seriously!

  • silly... works in some shots though, like the dueling keys and the dancers, and that banjo dude could be getting down like a John Cale, who knows.

  • having so much fun changing everyone's status with this status message changer! - /watch?v=MqdaaWvPv5s

  • This is when teenage hippie Senator McGovern liberals actually meeting the Ku Klux Klan!

  • & i though lawrence welk could get no cooler! this comes along! it doesn't hurt that this song kicks ass

  • Isn't it great this band could cover tune so well?

I didn't miss the banjo, on the original, until I heard this version.

That or the Funky Chicken, and uniformed bands. Whoever

they were. My memory is not that good anymore.

  • Lol at 0:41

  • Hysterical!

  • It's OK but it can't beat the VU /Marvin Gaye/Tammi Tyrell thing.

  • I knew Lawrence Welk was hip.

    Somehow..........

  • Brilliant.

  • I love dancebandleader and I want to lick him.

btw, did Welk get hot groupies?

  • @Widmerpool99 you're too far away anyhow. LOL

  • Yeah, Lawrence shot some smack after hustling in the gay bars on Christopher St!

  • @dougkenz ridiculous comment.

  • Surreal.....

  • If I hadn't see/hear this myself I woulda never believed it! Surreal.....

  • Before everybody gets confused the audio on this has nothing to

do with Lawrence Welk. The original audio should have been used.

this sound track was the most mediocre musicanship I ever heard,

again, nothing to do with Welk.

  • @dancebandleader: You DO realize this is funny, right?

  • At the end of this show, Cissy and Bobby got into a giant black bag and took questions from the audience.

  • ROFLMAO!!!!! Look at the old couples dancing to this loud rockin' song!!

  • haha this is the funniest thing ive ever seen!

  • Best version yet...

  • LMAO!

  • fuck this, I thought it was real

  • You posted this on March, 30th? Only two days short of April 1st LOL. Great job of editing. Nevertheless, my beloved grandparents got far too much joy from Lawrence Welk to ever be anti Welk. Still, I can't stop laughing with this!

  • OK OK I get it. It's March 26th as I view this. Only a few more days until April 1st. My grand parents loved Lawrence Welk. I know they were the counter to the counter culture but his musicians sure could play their instruments and his vocalists knew how to sing.

  • @DickAllen4HOF Don't know if you read my previous

comments on this clip. Apparently some who commented

on this clip didn't know that the soundtrack on this clip

doesn't belong to the image. Welks musicians would have

never been guilty of such bad singing, and clumsy rhythm.

  • Didn't the Rolling Stones make an appearance on the Lawrence Welk Show? lol!

  • Good Lord, this is hysterical! Dig them old folks slam dancing to it.

  • @Gerry50ify the soundtrack was not the one that was

on the original clip. Totally differrent.

  • I wish they had turned the banjo up. I think it would be have really put the cherry on the cake of this performance.

  • Wasn't this from Lawrence Welk live at CBGBs? Great job!

  • LOVE IT! great Job! Was this when Lawrence played CBGBs?

  • LMAO

  • Ha-ha. Really funny. Excellent editing!

  • this is the "short version" the others keep getting taken down by the main man!

  • its saturday morning 9.20 am uk time, ive jus woke up to my next door neighbour being raided (busted) for selling weed,!!!! the police have gone now they found nothing!!! again haha, ive just got through me 1st half joint of the day so i chose to watch this vid as it always cheers me up....every time without fail...its the bit where the old folks are all danceing away on a buzzzzz!!!

  • How is this not a viral vid? ...Where is the club extended version? ....I am sure Lawrence would have been shocked if he actually read the lyrics and understood what the band was really singing about. "searching for my main line" etc.... The organ is what really hooks....awesome.

  • @yesihavenocigarettes not the track from the TV clip

    totally different, totally mediocre

  • hahaha...I wondered- " where the hell is Lou Reed ?". Figured the band was just covering a VU tune with only Lou's voice track...How did you sync the band to the music? ...Just an amazing vid. Vote as all time best .

  • OUTSTANDING

  • Hahahahaha excellent my friend!

  • Too funny. I didn't hear that banjo player in the mix though. The real seal of approval for the Velvet Underground was at :40 where you see Lawrence's audience gets out on the dance floor.

  • Of course, this was the week before the MC5's legendary performance on the show, during which Lawrence Welk called for the violent overthrow of the US government.

  • Comment removed

  • @JakeLex None of anyone on the Lawrence Welk believed in violence. And they all believed in preserving American Democracy and freedom and most of them were members of the Ku Klux Klan.

  • @JakeLex --- If I could vote-up this more I absolutely would

  • @JakeLex And let's not for a moment forget the Lawrence Welk 20th anniversary special on TV where Black Flag was going to play...and then the show got canceled before they took the stage ;)

  • @JakeLex "A one anna two anna KICK OUT THE JAMS, MOTHERFUCKERS!!!"

  • @JakeLex Lmao! Is there a video of that performance?

  • @JakeLex Oh how I would love to dub Lawrence Welk to say "Kick out the jams, motherfucker!"

  • I lol everytime.

  • Some how Lawrence Welk went and shot up some heroin after this.

  • Too much Geritol leads to the Velvet Underground!

  • Brilliant!

  • Too bad they didn't follow this up with another number, they had the momentum!

  • all them dancers getting the square edges knocked off 'em

  • Sheer genius, always loved this, thanks!

  • im sure thats how they used to dance down at maxs kasas city back in the day

  • funniest thing on youtube!!! brilliant

  • yer know when things in life just aint going right? and yer end up spending yer last money on weed? then yer find yerself listening to this to takeaway those thursday blues }{

  • I think this is my favorite utube video of all time. I love the pianist overtaken by the spirit at about :58

    MASTERFUL.

  • Everyone is overtaken by the spirit. Wunnerful!

  • Turn on the bubble machine

  • thats not the velvet underground

  • Awesome!!!!!!

  • This goes to show that all that talk about the so-called "Generation Gap" back then was completely groundless. Look how happy all those folks are as they dance along to this tune! Everyone, young and old, found common ground in the enjoyment of good music. And Mr. Welk certainly recognized that.

  • I am gobsmacked.
