  • @explakajerk video card. then CPU, when you have enogh money

  • in my "boot" tab in bios there is no "boot booster" , i only have "boot device priority, boot settings configuration and onboard lan boot rom"

  • Comment removed

  • 4gb with 512mb of ram holy shit that sucks ... but nice job upgrading it tho

  • 2008= 4GB

    2011=1TB

almost 250 times increase in capacity

  • why the f*** dont u get an macbook air?!

  • i need some help on my eeepc 900, i've opened the thing and i can't seem to find where the storage really is. is it the chip above the RAM or the Azurewave PCI express attached inside? some comments would be appreciated, i need to backup my files and i can't seem to figure out that damn thing

  • Nice sticker book

  • Can i upgrade the sdd on ASUS Eee?

  • lol sticker book

  • *cough* install windows *cough*

  • I have already 2GB + 32GB SDHC. Also Samsung slim DVD-writer.

Sometimes i was boot from 2GB SD BackTrack Linux 4 ;)

  • i like your sticker album.

  • wtf sparkly sheep

  • i play wow on a eee pc laptop not the same one though and i get 5-10 fps if im luckey

  • Heey, you make really nice video's! ;-)

  • LINUS I GOT THE SAME DVD DRIVE

  • logans screw-driver!

  • girly sticky album XD

  • good job

  • mine is exactly like that. batt problem

  • what motherboard does it run? my mobo fried on mine and im in need of a replacement. help would be much appreciated. thank you

  • Heck I have the 904 HA and I put 2 Gig of GSkill F2-5300CL5S-2GBSK in mine. It was a tight fit but it just clears the case lip, since it has a heat spreader on the chip. And it works great. If you are looking for a bit more speed it makes a difference to do the upgrade.

I wish Linus would have done Windows 7 but looking at how long ago this was 7 wasn't available yet. But I would like to see it, since it seems to be a common upgrade. I don't have the SSD however. I got mine with the 120G HDD.

  • noob hahaha

  • Wow 4 gig hard drive. I had forgotten how small they used to be.

  • That guy havent heard about Toshiba Libretto.

Toshiba was the first to make a netbook.

    first one came in 1996.

  • can you install a window os using a usb flashdrive?

  • @Zimba9810 no

  • @Zimba9810, @intruderwings -Ummmm YES you can. It has to be flashed over to the flash drive. I just don't know how to do it but there is a write up in the Feb 2010 issue of CPU magazine that explains it. Obviously it's too big an article to quote. Anyway I think that if you disable your storage drive and then boot from DVD to transfer over to the FDD. If I remember the article suggested a 16 Gig FDD. In any case you have the large capacity SSD available to you as well.

  • u could install it with a flash usb drive linus:D

  • i have the 2G Surf (701) eeepc, i installed nlited XP onto it via usb drive. unfortuantly i cant upgrade the 512 RAM cause on the 701 its soldered on.

  • buy a new watch ..

    great show

  • Good grief he's awkward

  • is changing the ddr2 on an asus eeepc900 as easy as the video shows, theres nothing to do with the system setup?

  • its as easy as on a laptop ( litrally put it i and it should work )

  • I like you, and your videos are good, but you seem to make a meal out of everything lol. You just seem clumsy, but you know what you're talking about.

  • good vid

but your an asshole to your camera man

shouldn't you know him by name if you work w/ him

  • never thought of the sticker album good idea linus

  • how do i find my IP address?

  • i dont have a external cd drive...

    can i still install XP?????

    using USB maybe..

how can i make a bootable USB drive??

  • @bnssapp HP has software to do that.

  • thank you for the xp installation :)

  • Why would you want to degrade the EeePC by putting an inferior OS on it.

Out of the Box the Eee can be set up to do 99% of everything 90+% of the population needs to do.

If you insist please get NLite to trim the excess from XP.

The WinXP drivers come on the CD with the EeePC

  • Thanx but didnt mentioned where to get the drivers, especially the Cam, Touchpad etc...

  • thats a bad ass sticker album

  • ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Dude I was like "man this vid is well done!" Until I got to that album. Was HEllo Kitty in there? :(

  • Excellent video! I am going to upgrade my eeepc to xp soon.

  • great video

    !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol? Sticker album for windows keys?

  • das teil hab ich .^^

  • I think the question is how you pronounce the manufactures name I think ASUS sounds a lot better than ASOOS

also you took the easy way out with the disk space anyone could do that best thing to do would be replace the internal SSD and replace with a bigger one.

  • I know. WTF? ASOOS?

  • ASOOS is the proper way to say it, but some people mispronounce it as Ay-sus.

    I agree, it's very odd.

  • It's Taiwanese, so you can expect strange pronunciations.

  • i think that laptop manufacture can fit in more space... because theres flash disk the size of 89 GB and it's pretty small and ipod touch got 32GB flash in it why not 89 GB? or 32 Gb? or 16? all of these flash disk i'm talking about are small and very fast afordable

  • because flash memory isnt as fast as SSD. basically, SSD wins, the end.

  • thanks. I just bought a ASUS Eeee 904HA and the 2 Gig mem chip but am concerned about opening the case, and in the manual it says to someway disable the boot booster????is that important? thanks

  • is it best to put the ram in before youve used it or after which is easyer please help

  • how necessary is the RAM upgrade?

  • Hello my name is Jeff from Asus Tech support. Let me put it this way to you if you need it do it if you don't think you need it then don't do it.

  • Problem with this EEE PC is that the CPU really sucks.... if you opened more than 1 videos showing on the screen.. the book will just lag

  • Not if you overclock it.

  • will you be able to put windows 7 on a asus eeepc

  • Yes

  • U dont need to install the internet?

  • 8GB Solid state hard drive XP is about 5 GB on a clean install you would want to Nlite XP thing you would want to remove languages you don't speak keyboards you don't use Outlook express Internet explorer Windows Media player(keep the ability to go to 11) & other things this will take it down to 2GB on a fresh install & use 50MB of RAM(unlike 180MB on normal) this will give a little more room
  • can u put linux back?

  • you have to re-intall it the same way

    ,as xp. cd

  • No But i gueess u could buy linux or save linux on to a sd card and just put it in and boot from sd ? ? then it would work XD

  • :O u called it a note book, its called a NETbook :P

  • cool man!!!! did not know 2 gig fit in that little thing.

  • Have you ever used Vista?

  • ever used windows 7?

i'm using the beta of it & love it

  • best way for storage situation is buy an external USB drive, plug it in, and go nuts with duct tape.

  • he is cute

  • can u post a link saying wear to get the 2GB RAM and the the SD 8GB thanx

  • EBAY!! X-D

  • thanks a lot!

  • Love the sticker album.

It's pretty much the same procedure as for a Acer Aspire One right?

About how much does an external DVD drive cost?

  • OKAY CAN SUM1 HELP! If u remove the memory card wont u loose evrything u jus installed? :S ??

LET ME KNOW! and what is better in ure opinion? XP or Linus (The original software)?

  • he ment Ram memory not memory memory i think

  • Xp because that linux sucks

  • what size screw driver do i need?

  • shouldn't matter as long as its ORANGE

  • yay im dual booting windows xp and linux on my eee pc! im gonna try tri-booting. Ubuntu linux, windows xp SP3, and mac os X)

  • i want SO badly =[

  • hey maaaan!

    IDOL

the only rhing that i can say!

    thnx a lot dude!

  • Hey Linus! I upgraded to 2gb of DDR2 from Corsair that I bought to NCIX but the EEE PC still says I have only 1gb of DDR2! Help me please!!!

  • brilliant!

  • lmfao : the 1st step is : put it down

    WOOT PRO !

  • LMAO

  • OMG Sticker Album is like my sister's one!!!

  • That is a *BADASS* sticker album.

  • There is no point in upgrading the ram if you stick with the original OS correct?

  • was the screen on the Eee zoomed in or was the resolution not set correctly

  • It looks fine to me, the eee has a black plastic border going around the screen.

  • No, that version of the eee (the eee pc 701) has a screen surrounded by a black border. The eee 900, 901 & 1000 have a full-size screen.

  • im interested in doing this will i have any resolution problems?

  • i have the classic Eee

  • Lol, sticker album.

  • To have programs like Corel Draw X3 in a eee pc 701, I have to buy a 2gb RAM, right ? I have a SD card«, 4gb...

  • Good Informative video, but no reason to slam the linux community by stating you are upgrading to xp. You may want to change the heading. It's a choice in OS. I laughed hard when you stated that low disk space is a limitation of the e p c. I can flip this thought on it's head and say this is a limitation of the bloated xp os. You are sort of defeating the whole purpose of having a netbook by dumping money into it and pimping it out with xp. Other than that good job on the video.

  • when you installed the windows xp, wasnt that in the memorycard that comes with the computer, that 4gb card?

i just didnt get that when you didnt had any card in the pc when you installed windows? or am i totally lost at the moment? :D

  • great tutorial.Does the XP CD come with in the package of the 4g 701 EEE PC? Oh and by the way, having a sticker album is very faggotish.

  • Excellent tutorial!!

  • Just a note My EeePC (7 Months) has been my main machine and I am really in-joying the freedom. I have a 1 finger salute for you Bill.

While I get calls weekly to repair Windozs machine I enjoy that my machine

    Keeps

    Ticking -

    Ticking -

    Ticking -

  • Now to properly downgrade to windows you need to use a program called 'NLITE' it will remove the things you don't want before you install Bill Gates' bloatware.

Remember also the machine will not boot as fast., be open to viruses hackers ....

become unreliable and just plain Suck. i just can not think of why I would want to run XP on a 600 Mhz machine.

  • i like your sticker album

  • if i do all you did can i play doom 3 and the expansion pack?

  • i might get one now...

  • hahahahaha the sticker album

  • Do they give you anything to put the current OS (that comes with it) back on it?

  • Is that a surf?

  • Can you tell me the model? becuase some of the EEE pcs dont have a access port to the ram.

  • where do you get the cd usb thingy

    and the windows xp cd

  • NCIX, how much would it be for a 1g or 2g RAM card like that?

  • There's about 40 euros ($62 US) here in Holland but I bet they'd be cheaper in the US.

  • There 45 USD's

  • WOW great to watch an expert who can tell idiots like me how to do what are supposed to be complicated things, its easy when you are brilliant like you!

Thanks.(PS don't let you head get too swollen!)

  • What part of this was complicated?

  • hi there NCIX, i need to ask a question again , im hoping you or anyone could answer this as soon as possible, i have a 16gb SDHC card, can i use that in my eee 900? is it compatible? pls answer, thanks!

  • It should work fine, but no guarantees unfortunately... Best thing to do would be to browse some forums to see if anyone else is doing what you're planning.

  • hey NCIX, is this okay also for eee pc 900? can you show us how to install the same thing on 900 series? thanks!!!

  • quick question:

does the wireless still work when windows xp is installed?

    and also

does the webcam work with windows xp?

    thanks
