I was there - Crazy fffing show, dangerous too. 5 rows and 5 isles of seats in upper deck lite completely on fire during "smoke on the water", toilet paper streamers being thrown - on fire, between set changes it took an hour and there were massive fights happening on the floor. (man in the middle), a car lite on fire outside, people throwing full bottles of beer.... It was ffffing sick. To bad, my parents had to come pick me up cause I was only 16....can't imagine what they must of thought
can you guys believe Steve is 63 and still touring? He is so committed he went out on stage with a black eye...I hope he is okay for he is really having a great time and mentally it is good for him to sing and stay clean on his program which I feel is wonderful for him since he could have OD'd and died in the 70's,.he is very lucky to be alive period..
I am recreating this concert in my mind...I was 7 at the time and would have killed to see those 3 bands.
I mean, GNR is my favorite band of all time, Deep Purple is my 3rd favorite band and Aerosmith just fucking rocks and still do...waiting for them to come in November for their last tour.
i would do anything to go back in time and see this show. I wasnt alive when it happened. I wasnt even alive when Richie was still in Deep Purple and Slash was still in GnR. Man those must've been some good times
I was also at this concert! I was an early supporter of Guns n Roses, an admirer of Deep Purple and an avid fan of Aerosmith. All three bands were great that night but I have to give it to Deep Purple... they stole the show with their near perfect set and Ian's spectacular vocals. Wow.

Aerosmith is Guns N Roses's father, Guns N Roses is Aerosmith's child. I think there is no much influence on aerosmith from deep purple. but they are one of the most coolest bands
ha funny - GNR is opened for aerosmit in early days - now played together - finaly Aerosmit is guests on his show :) Abaut new GNR - its a offend for name GUNS N ROSES its must named " AXL and friends" GNR died in 1993 but he lives forever Slash is real great musician and maybe the best rock Quitar player From Bulgaria with love to every single fan of GNR in this galaxy :)
I recently heard the Deep Purple portion of this event, and they indeed brought their A game and had the crowd eating out of their hand. I can't imagine either Aerosmith or Guns N Roses having a more magical night then Purple had.
there should be a reason if chinese democracy has sold like that few, and the reason is that this album sucks! this ain't a GN'R album... it's such an axl's project album. Guns N' Roses died long time ago
Every time I see one of these old clips with GN'R, I just think about what could have been with that band. They were the real deal, still the best American rock band of the last 25 years--original lineup, of course.
Chinese Democracy is one of the best goddamn albums ever. Stop being a sheep who is trying to fit so hard with some perceived cool crowd. The music, especially the guitar work is sublime. The arrangements, lyrics, vocals, perfection. I was a hater once too and could care less if loving it is cool or not. Axl deserves all the credit in the world, though I am sure he could give a fuck. He did it, and as an old school fan, I am proud of him. In time CD will gets its due.
Hey man, to each his own. I can appreciate that you like it. I think it has it's moments, but don't feel it is anywhere near the same level of the old records. Def not a sheep, I tried to like it, but some of those songs are tragic. Other than SOD and CITR, I feel the album is very forgettable. Better was a cool bubble gum mainstream rock song that I loved the first few listens, but don't see myself pressing play anytime soon. I respect that the rest of the album doesn't follow the cookie
cutter pattern, and that Axl put some thought into it, and truly did try to reinvent the sound, but did GNR's sound really need to be reinvented? It's clearly not the Guns N' Roses I grew up on, and that's fine, I can listen to it for what it is, and I did, and don't care for it. I thought it had a ton of promise when I heard the demos, especially the Brian May version of CITR, sadly, the demos were polished to death. The gritty, raw, bluesy rock n' roll sound that made them my favorite band
is nowhere to be found, and Axl's voice doesn't sound the same to me. I'll give them this though, not as good as the old, but still great live.
My biggest gripe though, even with all the terrible music that's been pumped out the past 20 years, Shackler's Revenge is one the worst things my poor ears have ever been subjected to, and I can't forgive Axl for putting that out. At least "My World" was a joke, at least I thought it was...
I"M GLAD YOU LIKE IT. There are certainly far worse records coming out today. It's a shame Axl didn't have enough faith in his material to release it under another name, but I suppose it's better than no Guns at all.
I was there too, 50 feet from the stage. $22.50 (plus $3.75 service charge) for field general admission. Still have the ticket stub. 21 years old...it was an amazing time from what I barely remember of it! Lol! When they announced they were filming the Paradise City video, everyone went ape shit. Great music, lots of booze, oh, and beautiful women everywhere dressed in bikini tops and short shorts, not covered in tattoos and piercings like they are today. Man, those were the days...
its kinda cool to see how long time ago this were, because their talkin about GNR as if they were nobodies and newcomers (wich they were) and now their real rock legends, and Appetite is like the most sold hardrock album like ever.
I have, but it's not brilliant sound-wise. The '88 tour was spectacular, and some European shows were recorded better. You're welcome to a copy, though.
