WOW! You gave my funny reply a thumbs down? Like,Bo-gus, duuuuuuuude! I'm gonna have to roll a dube, and calm down, man! LOL No, seriously, after you gave me a thumbs down, I now think YOU SUCK as hard as you can! (Joking again, don't get upset)! Later!
If you don't mind me asking. I was wondering why you were using the air hose to chill out your piece instead of just letting it sit for a few seconds to chill? Just wondering. Great video by the way.
Well, there are many reasons. first ive been using them since i was 15 so its 2nd nature to speed the process up. Also the big thing i have leanrt from using them is; using air to cool the piece down can prevent cracking, helping you make even thinner glass. the by product of it is the piece is made quicker. so boss is happy and i am getting better quicker.
now the theory behind it preventing cracking. If i was to let it cool, on its own, enough so i can put the stem on without it going off center it would take maybe 20 seconds and the inside temp would be a tad higher than the outside temp of the piece.
now if i cool with the air gun. it can take anything from 4+ seconds to stiffen the piece. leaving the inside temp a lot hotter. so,the next time i go back in the glory hole overall the whole piece is at a higher temp. if you use the air gun say 8 or so times on a piece, you start to save a lot of heat and time. It WILL go in the lehr hotter minimising crackage. I hope this helps!
@macaddict1980 Thats because letting it dry on its own will require more time and as time goes by the bowl is still very hot and soft. so im geussing gravity might ruin the form. You want to cool it quick.
Thumbs up if you thought this guy was making a real bowl

I'm learning to blow glass...and I see that you have a pretty sweet shop. Any tips you could give me on creating a shop...where/what to buy?

Huh??? Is a sucky bowl a bong?
3eyedho 3 years ago
no its where you chill a bowl to stiffened state and then torch heat a spot and have the assistant suck in as hard as they can creating an indent
