But when I got to the bonus footage and saw Jesper doing this song with Maté I was smiling at my screen.... And then this gem came up and I teared up... Actually, listening to this, Drew would make one amazing Death. My god does he have the vocal strength, the ability to express the unexpressable, and a wonderful charisma about him. There's no doubt he can pull it off- just look at him as Armand or u/s Lestat in Lestat.

Great video! Wonderful to have a recording of those two together. However, even though both have great voices the chemistry seems a bit off.

Perhaps it is a power-balance thing? Máté is fairly young here and Drew is perhaps a little old for the role of Rudolf (from "Elisabeth")?

If you watch later versions of Máté, his performance is now even more seductive in an almost predatorial way and his voice has even more nuance than it did back in 2003.

Drew's voice sounds to me as if it would be better cast as "Der Tod". Perhaps that's why this duet seems a little more like a power struggle than Death seducing Rudolf?

I think it also 'cause Máté/Death is not actually acting as if he's seducing Drew/Rudolf. They arent on stage as if they are Death and Rudolf, they are on stage as if they are delivering an awesome performance (in which they succeed).

I mean, come on. Máté doesnt even touch Drew. He's not trying to look as if hes seducing him.

Anyway, that they dont actually act as their characters makes it also harder to empathise sound-wise, so however awesome they sound, they dont sound as Death& Rudolf

I've written an English version of Die Schatten myself, keeping as close as possible to the original meaning whilst using the same rhyme patterns, and expressing the situation when a more direct translation doesnt work.

Now, all I have to do is lock these two guys in a room, stick my English lyrics under their faces and refuse to let them out unless they give me a perfomance!!!!

Or, for the other fans/ Rudolf-a-holics, Drew and Uwe!!!!
