When school voucher programs are instituted, it stimulates public schools to improve. What happens is that competition has worked to everyone’s benefit. Even in NY the governor is now trying to get rid of the lemons in the classroom.
This is one thing where the Europeans have a better model. You get a stipend and can pick your school. And the schools can specialize. One can have a good music program and another great science. So instead of 5-10% of kids per school with an interest in any one thing they can take from a wider areas and have a whole class of kids specialized in what they have apptitude for.
I'm a student in highschool, and I'm tired of all these old bureaucrats telling us what to do, what classes to do, and forcing us into higher level classes just because it makes the school look better. It isn't even a matter of students learning anymore, its a matter of teachers teaching their students what they need to know to do well on tests so that the school looks good. I have learned more about government on Youtube than in class, and more about History from the History Channel for free.
@AresGodOfWar1214 Don't believe everything you learn about history from the History Channel. Some subjects they can be quite biased on. A good idea would be to get a history book pre 1960's. One example would be A Short History of the World or Outline of History by H.G. Wells. An excellent non-biased account published in the 1920's.
@miturbinesdurti I don't trust everything I see there, but it's much more reliable than school is sadly. I had a teacher in an AP class coddle a girl who was making the argument that factories shut down due to The Black Plague because there were no workers to produce electricity for the factories to work. And this is the highest level class possible, top 5-10% of students. That's sad. Our teachers are horrible because our learning doesn't matter, they get payed no matter what.
A school is only successful when the student genuinely wants to learn.
Changing from one multimillion-dollar taxpayers' facility to another won't necessarily change the student. But, if parents had to pay more for their child's education... they would take greater interest in getting their money's worth. The better their grades, the bigger the discount for not wasting taxpayers' dollars on their kid. On behalf of taxpayers without offspring, that's the "choice" for schools that we need.
Please read, at the least, the Preface in A PROCESS MIND, now on Amazon and read there. It pleads for a few engineers in each medical school, to change the teaching system from Quick Memory to the slower Process Memory that asks why and then answers with solutions.
When the Federal laws against drugs are repealed, drugs will still be illegal in your state and your tax dollars can STAY in your state for law enforcement instead of funding the failed fraud called "the war on drugs".
If you haven't read the 10th amendment lately, may I suggest you do so now? Law enforcement, education, environmental management should be the right of the states to control.
@3monkeysmomma The Feds do a much better job at busting drug dealers. If you think the federal war on drugs is any different than the state war on drugs, then maybe you are on drugs. They both have the exact same goal. What if some kooky state like California decides to make all drugs legal? Does the feds not being involved in drug enforcement make anybody any safer or does it make a game changing windfall of money available for something else? I think the war on drugs has good intentions.
The Tenth Amendment states the Constitution's principle of federalism by providing that powers not granted to the federal government nor prohibited to the States by the Constitution are RESERVED to the States or the people.
Well-meaning people like you chip away at our constitution thinking it makes us better, safer, more contemporary, but all you're doing is destroying the very thing that made us a great nation. You probably THINK you're a conservative too.
Public schools were meant to allow people who can't afford to send their child to private school to get their child an education without paying. Of course the public school system is widely taken advantage of because the bad kids don''t get expelled, bad teachers aren't fired, and the staff can''t do anything about it because they're afraid of being sued.
Though I believe a private school would be the best choice for anyone's child (if they can afford it.)
well maybe maybe not. I might have intended to post a regular comment. I had to go somewhere after posting the comment. So I guess it was an unintended response to your comment. Apologies

Ron Paul support school choice and home schooling.
He has also promised to defund the US Dept. of Ed.
If this issue is important to you, vote Ron Paul.

@3monkeysmomma In Ron Paul's America there would be less children in school because so many would be addicted to legalized drugs like crystal meth.

public education does exactly what it was designed to do, dumb down the children, and prevent them from knowing their rights and the bible
