Don´t forget: 1950: Mao and the Dalai Lama undersigned a contract that Tibet is an autonomous country. In this contract they decided that Tibet can have an own govt with only tibetan politics, they can speak their language, can live their religion and can live their cultural identity. The United Nations Human Rights Comittee tends to disagree with your statement. There is no freedom of expression in China, no freedom of association, there are no free and fair elections, media are consistantly censored, torture, ill-treatment and executions of political opponents are common practice, constant political interference with the judicial system makes fair trials impossible, and so on and so on. How can you possibly say that human rights are being respected in China?

1) Their culture is being eroded by the influx of Han settlers,
2) Resentment that they are being economically and culturally marginalized in their own ancestral land,

In this contract they decided that Tibet can have an own govt with only tibetan politics, they can speak their language, can live their religion and can live their cultural identity. So this actually problem is not an internal matter.

Your argument about the situation in Tibet before the Chinese occupied the country is besides the point. The fact that the pre-1950 Tibetan regime was bad is irrelevant for the gross violations of human rights commited by the Chinese government in 2008.
Supporters of the Chinese government ought to understand that one cannot simply refer to the atrocities of a privious (Tibetan) regime in order to justify the atrocities of the current (Chinese) regime.

The United Nations Human Rights Comittee tends to disagree with your statement. There is no freedom of expression in China, no freedom of association, there are no free and fair elections, media are consistantly censored, torture, ill-treatment and executions of political opponents are common practice, constant political interference with the judicial system makes fair trials impossible, and so on and so on. How can you possibly say that human rights are being respected in China?

Yes they are. When in 2001 the International Olympic Comittee chose Beijing as the next host city for the Olympics it explicitly motivated its choice by saying that it expected China to improve human rights conditions by 2008. Quite the contrary has happened. It is therefore wholly justified that the IOC is now being confronted with Chinese reality.

some people don't understand that almost all thing in the world, like the olympics are about profit and sure the U.S. would like to damage china using the tibetan cause but does that mean tibetans should not stand up for their rights?
i feel shame knowing that no greek official had the courage to stand up and say something about tibet at least just in honor of the greek struggle for national independence.but you know how politicians are... can't trust them...

Is the problem in Tibet so serious that it deserve so much attention? There must be some misunderstanding. The media, the West, the Chinese and ppl from Tibet...Everybody tends to act emotionally and irrationally. Just ask yourself, how much do you know about Tibet and what you get from the news are they relaible? What kind of position are we at while we are trying to protest? China is not North Korea, Chinese are trying to improve. That takes time! Vigorious confrontation doesnt help at all!!
