I liked Luger's body fat thing back in '99. He was very amusing. He was an okay worker. He had many chances to be the next Hogan and Flair but for some reason he did not gel.
Luger was NEVER the total package. In order to be "total" in professional wrestling you have to have some sort of mic skills. Luger was HORRIBLE on the mic. Just shut up and look good. That's the best advice someone should have given him.
I don't get all the hate for Luger. He was never that bad on the mic and was always a good performer. He was main event wrestler and World Champion his entire career and deservedly so. He always gave a good effort and the fans responded to him. I don't get it.
blah blah this guy had the look and that was all he had his skills sucked he only made it on looks even vince said that was the only reason luger got into the wwf/wwe and bischoff never liked this guy so what does that tell ya.
@Fultonfalcons86 , it tells me Bishchoff has no clue who is good or not...Bischoff said Austin and HHH would never make it in the bussiness.. Guess what He was proven WRONG. both Austin and HHH were successfull which means Bischoff has no clue how to make someone or get them over like Vince does. Bischoff fires Austin by FedEX..he doesn't have guts to fire him face to face. his one good idea "NWO" was ran into the ground.
@Astraldragon1 very true i mean i enjoyed the old georgia championship wrestling days when i was a kid that was when wrestling was fun to watch ...........................
@Astraldragon1 To be fair, two mistakes doesnt prove that he doesnt know what he's doing, its all that other crap he did that proves he has no idea what he's doing.
Call me crazy, but I found a lot to like about Luger even in his non-Florida, non-NWA days. I wasn't a huge fan of the All-American Luger character, but the Narcissist was a well-played character and I for some reason really enjoy his fifteen-minute draw with Tatanka at KotR '93.
I also think Lex was on fire early on in the WCW vs. NWO feud, especially when he beat Hogan for the belt on Nitro. Heck, I even found Totally Buff to be entertaining, at least on the mic.
Luger was horrible in every aspect of working in pro wrestling... didn't know threen holds that he could chain together.. had no idea what the crowd was actually interested in... he was the epitome of sports entertainment... all fluff and no stuff...
@Vizzoid WRONG!! Lex had the looks and the popularity to beat Nikita whenever they fought. In all their matches from 1987 I think Koloff and Luger faced eachother about 26 times (one on one) in 1987 when Koloff was face and Luger was heel. In ALL those matches Luger not only had 90% of the fans cheering him, AS A HEEL against Koloff, he also totally dominated Koloff like 90% of the time in every match they had. Luger also won all the matches he ever had with Nikita, both in 1987 and 1991.
@xhemexx dude... he was being cheered as a heel because he was a damned horseman (the pre nwo)... flair got cheered, arn got cheered; tully even got cheered... the only time they got actual heat was when they jumped on the r n r express, dusty, magnum, michael hayes, or the road warriors...
Actually, considering how early this was in Luger's career, the interview wasn't too bad. Unfortunately his mic skills never improved much since, but his impact in the business is still huge.
That promo made no sense. It was like it was going and then just "we looked into each others eyes, and I knew it was all wrong". I know what he's saying but he didn't blend it well at all. It was like a cliff hanger; he should have said something about interference FIRST then said the game plan was wrong...
these interviews were done on the fly back then. the WWF promos were tighter because Vince tought his guys not to trail off too long and to get the match or gimmick over.
Yeah. I remember they showed this interview on TV a week or so after Starrcade. Luger didn't like Dillon's interferance in the match, so that basically was the beginning of the end of Luger as a Horseman.
This was the script written for Lex Lugar by the NWA Booking Team. This was part of the storyline to have Lex leave the 4 Horsemen and become a babyface.
Plus the other thing was Luger was never the wrestler Ric, Arn, Tully, Ole, Chris Beniot or Dean Malenko were. Hell none of the other Horsemen were in their class, except Sting.
@themightycelestial , Ric flair was great he didn't need to have the Horsemen to win the belt, He proved he could win any belt before the Horsemen came along.
Batista had worse mic skills

1:27. The beginning of Luger's face turn. I figured that he would turn good if Flair regained the belt, which he did.

Ahhh. So this was the VERY beginning of problems between Luger and the Horsemen. Ok. I always wondered what exactly happened.

Doesn't Lex Luger understand that when you're a Horseman, outside interference is what gets you the Championship?
You think Ric Flair didn't get to the top by being the "Dirtiest Player In The Game'?
WOOOO!!!!
themightycelestial 3 years ago
Luger didn't write his own lines.
Bela195401 2 years ago
Yes, I know.
I was mockingly referring to his wrestling character, not to the actual guy.
Luger was never known for being able to do the mic thing too well without the help of writers.
