I think, reading some of these comments...some people need to go glance over "Age of Reason".
Thomas Paine was harrassed by the Church on his deathbed, forsaken by an entire nation because he bravely stood against ALL organized religion, and was demonized for it (Not just christianity).
Anyway, people need to stop twisting his legacy. He has clearly laid out his views for all to see in plenty of sources.
I also learned exactly which washington32Founding Fathers were Masons (only a maximum of 9% of the Founding Fathers had any connection with Masonry, and only 5% of them were documented members), and I learned the exact extent of their involvement (George Washington, during 3 decades of membership, attended only 4 Masonic events! Oh, and by the way, all of those paintings of him in Masonic garb – bogus!).
a brief history of Freemasonry including how its was introduced in America (mainly as military lodges in which both officers and enlisted men could socialize without regard to rank or class) and how it has changed since the time of the Founding Fathers (the blood oaths and degrees of rank were added between 1820-1845, after many of the Founders were dead, and these things also caused a mass exodus of Christians from the lodges, leading to many of the pagan beliefs adopted by Freemasonry today)
Freemasons were mentioned several times. did you know that in several of the founders own writings. they said freemasonry was very dangerous to this country?
Signer of the Declaration of Independence, Clergyman and President of Princeton University
"While we give praise to God, the Supreme Disposer of all events, for His interposition on our behalf, let us guard against the dangerous error of trusting in, or boasting of, an arm of flesh ... If your cause is just, if your principles are pure, and if your conduct is prudent, you need not fear the multitude of opposing hosts.
Signer of the Declaration of Independence and Ratifier of the U.S. Constitution
"The gospel of Jesus Christ prescribes the wisest rules for just conduct in every situation of life. Happy they who are enabled to obey them in all situations!"
--The Autobiography of Benjamin Rush, pp. 165-166.
Signer of the Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution
"I believe that there is one only living and true God, existing in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, the same in substance equal in power and glory.
"I do declare to the whole world that we believe the Scriptures to contain a declaration of the mind and will of God in and to those ages in which they were written; being given forth by the Holy Ghost moving in the hearts of holy men of God;
--Treatise of the Religion of the Quakers, p. 355.
Resistance to tyranny becomes the Christian and social duty of each individual. ... Continue steadfast and, with a proper sense of your dependence on God, nobly defend those rights which heaven gave, and no man ought to take from us."
--John Hancock in History of the United States of America, Vol. II, p. 229.
"The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God."
--Adams wrote this on June 28, 1813, in a letter to Thomas Jefferson.
Benjamin Franklin said "Here is my Creed. I believe in one God, the Creator of the Universe. That He governs it by His Providence. That He ought to be worshipped.
So wrong, only 2 were deist, and one of them claimed in his journal to be christian. Check REAL history not revisionist history. John Jay signer of the Declaration of Independence said "“"Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers. And it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest, of a Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers."
Christians hate it when you quote his work from The Age of Reason because they know it is damn true.I mean come on the word unicorn is in the bible. So you know something is wrong.God bless all the true and underrated philosophers.Peace
could someone back then have enuff brain power to relize even if there were christain,s they should present things in a way all can except....believes and non-believe....just maybe they had enuff insight to do such a thing????
it,s called fight fire with fire and it,s simple and ez....becuase that,s the law of it.
Keep churing out these idea,s there fun to look at...lol....some of us idiot,s as were called are really amused..
7:38 = "Its time to wake up America... once we loose these freedoms they don't come back" Here is the response straight from the declaration of independence: "That whenever any form of gov. becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it and to institute new gov. laying its foundation on such principles & organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall see most likely to effect their safety and happiness."
"It can not be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions but on the gospel of Jesus Christ." - Patrick Henry
"We have staked the future of American civilization upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God." - James Madison
"The highest glory of the American Revolution was this - that it connected, in one indissoluble bond, the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity." - John Quincy Adams
Deism is essentially the view that God exists, but that He is not directly involved in the world. Deism pictures God as the great “clockmaker” who created the clock, wound it up, and let it go. A deist believes that God exists and created the world, but does not interfere with His creation. Deists deny the Trinity, the inspiration of the Bible, the deity of Christ, miracles, and any supernatural act of redemption or salvation.
The Bible states that everyone knows that God is real. They just Deny it because the don't want to answer to anyone for their lustful sin. Having said that I do realize that "SOME" of our founding fathers were deist. But they did believe in God.
The one thing Ive figured out regarding those on the extreme left is that its a religon to them . They are for the most part college educated which in itself denies religon in every form except those that are politically correct . They thirst for religon but cant handle the negative stigma associated with traditional religon so they become liberals.. And they willing to give up all their rights for their beliefs I.E. religon......They are no different than any other religous fanatic
back in the day, Common Sense was written by Thomas Paine. Now in 2011, the new Common Sense was just released. It is "Common Sense 2.0 - Reviving America."
You realize the fighting started in 1775? And there were outbreaks of violence before that. What Paine did, though, was stimulate the desire for independence. The "revolutionary" war was not originally started over the desire for independence, but to resist some of the British policies they had implemented.
I just recently watched an excellent documentary, " The Hidden Faith of the Founding Fathers", and discovered that the Founding Fathers were all 33rd degree freemasons. They were actually against the true God of the Bible! You will be shocked to discover what the Founding Fathers actually believed in the own words! Please do a search and learn the truth for yourself.
@TheConstitutionMan for someone who calls himself the constitution man sure doesn't seem to know much about american history and is not worthly of calling himself by that name.
@TheConstitutionMan lol!! your getting your information from David Barton !!! seriously??? do your own research. You will realize you are wrong. LOL David Barton... geez. It mind boggles me how lazy people are.
who cares what these guys believed when it comes to religion i personally don't go to church or believe in god but i dont really give 2 shits what other people think . the founding members believed in liberty and thats all that matters why cant people see christmas lights without flipping out and calling the aclu cause someone is celebrating what they believe if there religion makes them a good persons i am all for it
@Layna8 you do know that almost all the founders were deist?!? right? they all hated Christianity and thought it was rubbish.Chirstianity is probably the most childish religion out there. Next time you telepathically communicate with the creator of the universe tell him/her to give you a brain. Brainwashed fool...
@aprox23 That is historically wrong!!!! I love it when these atheist sit there and say crap like that over and over. yet present nothing. For your viewing pleasure: amazon.com/American-Heritage-David-Barton/dp/B001RJ78TE/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1308079572&sr=8-8
@TheConstitutionMan thomas jefferson has quote after quote talking about how religion is terrible for country...he also wrote a book...it's called "the faith and moral teachings of jesus of Nazareth"...I'm not an agnostic that hates christians or anything...but the facts are there...I know christians just mostly refuse to see them...just dont shove your religion down my throat or try and make me live like you do and we can just be countrymen lol...
@TheConstitutionMan Thomas Pain who is believed to be the catalyst of Americas independence was an atheist. Jefferson was most certainly a deist and quite possibly an atheist. The book you are citing is babble at best. It claims the American Revolution was about religious freedom. Not about taxation with no representation, or about the English stifling trade in the colonies and taxing colonists to pay for the French Indian War. It's an absolute perversion by Dave Barton to make such claims.
" Some books against Deism fell into my hands. . . It happened that they wrought an effect on my quite contrary to what was intended by them; for the arguments of the Deists, which were quoted to be refuted, appeared to me much stronger than the refutations; in short, I soon became a thorough Deist." -- Benjamin Franklin
He also said things like "the way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason," and "Light houses are more helpful than churches."
@aprox23 Thats not true most of our founding fathers were in fact christian non-denomination but christian. you are a fool to pretend you know anything about the afterlife.
@aprox23 Anyway it doesnt matter what religion you do or do not beleive, it is about our freedom and liberty being lost forever unless we stand together united.
Some were deists, some weren't. I think it's pretty evident that the founders wanted a clear separation of church and state, but Christianity definitely played a role in the lives of 1770's America, they would laugh at the evangelicals and brainwashed masses of today though, they were Enlightenment era thinkers, not religious zombies.
@Layna8 ummmm, WOW...... This is a VERY good example of brainwashed Christians.... this is the type of personality that burned people at the stake because they thought they might be witches or warlocks. Lady, read the book, then form an opinion. I am willing to bet you are 100% behind bush too? Did you know he is a member of the satanic skull and bones? and successfully fooled 90% of the christian population in America? Go watch TV.... i'm sure there's some news for you to watch on there.
@TheConstitutionMan - You, Sir, do not know me, so, keep ur personal insults 2 urself!
U are a neoConstitutionalist and you might be more dangerous than what we have right now in the States.
U claim to bring Liberty, but, deny the foundations through the Word of God which gave you the roots of your Republic, which is no longer, but, that True Patriots are trying to Revive.
You sound more like a cointelpro type to me. Did I say that I was a Bushlover? lol. contid.L.
@Layna8 The "Word of God" gave you the roots of your Republic? Yeah, is that why the first commandment says "worship none but me, your only God" and the First Amendment gives us the freedom to believe whatever we want.
@Muhtadin - I can see by ur addie that ur a Muslim. I'd expect u to say something like this, becuz, it's ur desire to see Shariah Law instituted & the American Constitution with all it's precepts/ Declaration of Independence, etc., destroyed. I will explain something to you - one is from the Ten Commandments in the Bible; the other was written 4 the nation, of which, there would be many different peoples, not all of which, would be believers. God has not made robots, He's given us free will. L.
@Layna8 Muslim??? Where in the world did I declare that? Just because my channel icon is some arabic writing, doesn't mean that I am muslim. I'm an atheist. The ten commandments have nothing to do with the US gov't. It's just a stupid set of "rules" for the desert dwelling Hebrews of 3rd century BC.
@Muhtadin - cont'd. - God is a Gentleman...He woos people to Himself, but does not force, at the edge of sword...get my drift?!?...He is telling us what He expects from His true servants. However, we have a choice to decide to obey or not to. Love does not FORCE - Love FREES...freedom to choose what you will do with the Gospel, with the Lord...but, He warns us - if you make the wrong choice, it is ur decision and the consequences for that decision is Death. FYI I did not write the Scriptures. L.
@TheConstitutionMan - I dont know who they were; I wasn't there. However, according to Old Testament scripture; it does say Suffer not a witch to live. Since we are under a dispensation of Grace, we do not follow that dictate anymore. It is up to every mans free will to make the choice for Heaven or Hell. Old News! I have my own site, 4 cryin' out loud! I dont watch TV! ; so, wrong on several counts. I think ur the 1 who's brainwashed 2 hate Christians! And that would be 's' for plural, Pal. L.
If anyone who calls USA a Christian Nation because 75% of America claims to be Christians.. then you must also say that it is a white nation, because there is more white people in America.Oh and it must also be a female nation because there are more females in the USA then there is men. Please people....wake up and educate yourself.
USA is NOT a Christian nation and never was. It is a nation of diversity founded by those fleeing religious tyranny and the only country with a constitution against the combination of church and state. It was founded as a secular nation and its Founding Fathers intended to keep it that way. The United States of America is based on the notion that all man is created equal and stands for "freedom for all" despite one's race, wealth, or religion.
@aprox23 - Another NeoConstitutionalist...I bet you are a member of the Separation of Church & State bunch too. The Pilgrims were Christians, f.y.i. My ancestors were on the Mayflower & colonized your country, & fought in both Rev. & Civil Wars. So, the baton has been passed to me, to let you know, that the Republic can only stand with God's Word at the fore. Let it be known far & wide, & let Truth & Liberty rise, 4 where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is LIBERTY.
@Layna8 I agree with everything you just said. Church and state yes..... The state should not ever be allowed to tell church's what to do. You didn't answer the Bush question. Bush was Satans perfect wolf in sheep's clothing
@TheConstitutionMan - God's Word & Church- I don't mean the Roman Catholic Church...should have say in the country's issues. Yes, I did answer...I never said I was a fan of George Bush...many years ago, I stuck up for him, becuz, he said he was a Christian, but, that was be4 I found out that he & G.Bush Sr. are New World Order proponents. I have learnt plenty about them in my research & am diametrically opposed to them & anyone who is for the Globalist, Luciferian agenda. L.
@Muhtadin - I will try to explain this to you...but, I doubt that you will understand this, becuz, the natural man cannot receive the things of the Spirit, for they are SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED...the Spirit of God was not in the heart of Pharoah Neco...he was unrepentant and unrighteous before God. How God hardened Pharoah's heart is not certain...but, it is possible that hardening came, through God sending Pharoah an evil spirit, which spoke into his ears, rebellion and a stubborn behavior. L.
@Layna8 There is no spirit. No evidence of there ever being a spirit. It's just as real as unicorns and dragons. Even if there was, how would you know? Do you have even the slightest shred of evidence for what you claim? Were you there when "God" committed this act. Using words like, "SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED" does not fool people that know their stuff. That term is like using "beam us in" from Star Trek. Totally fictional!
@Muhtadin - 'There is no spirit, etc.' < who are u to make such a statement?! This is the rhetoric of a closeminded heathen. Yes, I have 'experiential' knowledge of the Spirit of God for over the last 30 years. Committed this ACT?...What ACT? 'God is a Spirit & they that worship Him, must worship Him in Spirit & in Truth.' Know their stuff? lol...what stuff is that? Read 1 Cor. 2:14 - 'But, the natural man can't receive the things of the Holy Spirit, 4 they're SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED.' L.
@Layna8 WHO AM I TO MAKE SUCH A STATEMENT??? I am a free, educated, well-informed citizen. That's who I am. There is no evidence for spirits existing or ever to have existed, just like unicorns, dragons, fairies etc. Show me evidence of the spirit and I'll listen. And "closeminded heathen" (really???)-- are you from the 18th century??? I'm an atheist, makes me a free-thinker. You're the close minded one who won't accept the "possibility" of there not being a god.
@Muhtadin - You obviously did not absorb or understand what I wrote in my other posting. If you had, you would not have rehashed the same 'un-knowledgeable, unaware verbage that you wrote previously. I told you I have had experiential knowledge & revelation of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is a Person & to be treated with respect, fyi. Ur the guy trying to teach people to play tennis, when you have never taken a lesson in your life. If God is real, it don't make you that FREE, does it? L.
@Layna8 The spirit is a person? Once again, do you have any single shred of evidence for what you claim??? Btw, you don't exactly need a lesson on tennis to teach others. If you're good enough (which I am) you self learn. And I am FREE. If I wasn't free and God had a hold of me, he wouldn't let me be an atheist, would he?
@Muhtadin - I paraphrase that verse, 4 lack of space - 'you(a natural man) cannot receive the things of the Spirit, for they are FOOLISHNESS unto him.' Thus, it is easy to understand why you bring up 'Star Trek' and other such ridiculous worldly reasoning. I am being 'patient' with you, in this, becuz of your spiritual ignorance.
Otherwise, I would not bother to respond at all...it would be wasting my time, which is precious to me. L.

"The Christian system of religion is an outrage on common sense." Thomas Paine
@aprox23 - Thomas Paine & other's like him, who did have some good quotes, were also Freemasons, which means they were divided in their hearts...you cannot be a Christian & give a blood oath to Freemasonry...it is forbidden.
The Bible remark, I hope he repented of...becuz, if not, he's in Hell.
@aprox23 - Second, it is not the Bible that is at fault...it is mankind, within those pages, that has been revealed by the scalpel of God to us, that is the problem.
And, it is mankind that has interpreted his Holy inspired Word, in error, and not sought and found true revelation from His Spirit.

@aprox23 - Jefferson Bible comment - written again by a Freemason. What do you expect?
Religion binds, Salvation frees...the Spirit of God gives Liberty - Madison was a Freemason...which is diametrically opposed to Christianity.
Washington was also a Freemason, - quote what you will, in the end, each of these men bowed their knee to Jesus Christ, whether on Earth or afterwards...
"The United States government is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion." John Adams Treaty Of Tripoli, 1797
“I have recently been examining all the known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition (Christianity) one redeeming feature. They are all alike, founded upon fables and mythologies.”
@aprox23 - All these men were Freemasons...and we know where that leads don't we?...at some point in their lives, they encountered God...we all do...it's our choice from that point onwards to decide for or against Him.

With no relation to the book, the term "common sense" is now just used to rally people who are uneducated to somehow be smarter than the educated, basically the key word in the age old attack on intellectualism. But we have a test that measures common sense, it's an IQ test.
There comes a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part, you can't even passively take part; and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop, And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, that unless you're free the machine will be prevented from working at all.
Why are americans panicking so much about their country ?
You americans are so rich that you give more than $57 billion dollars to Israel in aid and support, fund zionist movements, are world leaders in pornography, prostitution and women's liberation.
You are a nuclear powered countries that can destroy Iran whenever you want like Iraq and Vietnam in order to protect israel.
@TimeGod12 Because most of the citizenry engages in debauchery involving toothpaste, shotgun shells, and most importantly rolled and burned copies of Mein Kampf.
Thomas Paine was just 1 step away from being an Atheist. Most people do not understand that a Deist is all but an atheist. He hated Christianity with intensity which was reflected in his writings. Common Sense rejects the Bible, miricales & God interacting with man through revelation. Virtually ALL the founding fathers were Freemasons. So much for America being a Christian country. US Presidents & VP have been littered with masons. Clinton was CFR, Bush Skull & Bones, etc, etc.
@Romans1014Preach exactly. he was in a less tolerant time and was unable to speak out passionately and made to skirt the issue of clearly and boldly stating he was against organized religion or religion at all.
people forget while they formed one of the worlds free nations, it was not a free time
might as well just make us into robots already...they are controlling everything there is nothing we can do..well there is but no one will do anything about it...
I can not wait until the day I see these corrupt criminals running this nation hanging from the gallows. I can not wait until liberty is more valuable to the American people than the fake security and the fake prosperity they offer us. I see no hope in restoring this nation without a real revolution. I do not care if my words are considered illegal or treasonous either, King George considered such words illegal but liberty still prevailed. Death to the New world order and all of their realatives
@Illusenfan35 They did not want a specific Christian denomination but they all referred to the Bible and God. They did not want a State religion which meant a denomination but all recognized the God of Christianity. They did not want the government saying how they were to relate to god but all more or less understood the US was a Christian nation. There was to be no State religion but religion played a major part in laws and government. Still does. Still should!
“ The evil that has resulted from the error of the schools, in teaching natural philosophy as an accomplishment only, has been that of generating in the pupils a species of atheism. Instead of looking through the works of creation to the Creator himself, they stop short, and employ the knowledge they acquire to create doubts of his existence. They labour with studied ingenuity to ascribe..., and jump over all the rest by saying, that matter is eternal.”: The Existence of God--1810 Thomas Paine
Well you are wrong in your presumption, and my assertion still stands that you're trying to twist a man to fit yourself. And from what I can gather from the article was that he believed man lost a certain right to land as he would have had in a state of nature when civilization was made, so those who "own" the land in civilization should pay for the lack of land they "create" and give to those who don't own land. This is very mild and has actual justification for the redistribution.
@DrWizardMan He was a self proclaimed Deist, you dishonor him by trying to make him into what I presume you are. And his "socialism" was probably very very light compared to what people are into these days.
Thomas Pain may have been fast to speak, but I great American none the less (along with the rest of our founders). Also most all of our Founding Father were God Fearing and Christian Principled men; So to suggest anything else is unintelligent and not factual.

i have found this group of military, law enforcement and civilians, that should be looked into by everyone who views this video. and this group keeps getting bigger by the hour. OATHKEEPERS.
@TheConstitutionMan - I completely disagree with your vidoe presentation of 'What is "Fahrenheit 451" & Why Should You Read It?' - apparently, the book calls for burning God's Holy Word, that the founders of America built the nation upon. And, God's name is blasphemed in the book, as well. This is to be read by children - totally unacceptable and you should know better. Constutionality without God's Word is useless - the Bible props up the Constitution. No debate on this one. Period. Layna.
Hey people HERE an ILUMINATI (NEW WORLD ORDER) asshole. Go after "Tezku" member on You Tube. He IS a New World ORDER Iluminati. He is doing a propaganda against it, by sending sarcastic personal messages to members. Check this members: Tezku, OvershotX and mindcontrol100. Expose them!
When it shall be said in any country in the world, my poor are happy; neither ignorance nor distress is to be found among them; my jails are empty of prisoners, my streets of beggars; the aged are not in want, the taxes are not oppressive; the rational world is my friend, because I am the friend of its happiness: when these things can be said, then may that country boast its constitution and its government. Thomas Paine, Rights of Man.
@DrWizardMan he was a Theist who abhored the religious institutions that he was fully aware were invented by men. he was for secular government anti religion because he knew what evil religion caused but he definately not an atheist.
Militia, think of it as Neighborhood Watch with firearms. There to do right when those we hired to serve and protect fail. Your familes last line of defense is a trained you. Join me in training!
@SucceedMascot he was also a theist (beleives in god) yiu can be anti religion and theist at the same time because one is a spiritual beleif and the other is a man made institution founded around such beleifs they are not one in the same.
"my mind is my church"
-Thomas paine
im an atheist myself and not America, yet Thomas Paine is one of my heroes
@SucceedMascot We need to remember that people are turned off by the religious-ness of Christianity portrayed by many Christians, not necessarily the belief of the religion itself. I haven't read the books, I've read quotes from it. I guess that's what I get from the quotes more so than him bashing Christianity altogether with.
@SucceedMascot Stay away from the fences...welcome to the new world order in wich the sheep don't even give a reply to people with REAL documentation showing tat we are so far off the path that it's nearing impossible to revert back....
Hey DrWizardMan , could you please not curse here , its one of the rules . It also shows your education and respect that you obviously lacking . . . idiot .
Hey DrWizardMan , could you please not curse here , its one of the rules . It also shows your education and respect that you obviously lacking . . . idiot .
Were liberty is outlawed in the interest of security, tyranny will thrive and the individual will suffer by losing both liberty, and security. I will wright in Ron Paul in 2012 if he doesn't run. Who is with me?
He was actually a deist, which, in his day, was practically the same as being an atheist. And, yes, he certainly did own. I want to say that he was ahead of his time, but seeing the current political climate of this country (these "tea party" folks, for example), it seems that he was ahead of our time too.
@iandmiller More than that Paine objected to basing government on religious teaching. For example having a King because the Bible said so. Today Paine would have none of people who were making enviornmental policy based on religion. Those nuts that say well God only takes 10% so the federal government shouldn't get anymore than that would really piss Paine off.
@gearoiddom I have never seen such failure to put phrases, such as "practically the same thing," into proper context. I know damn well what Deism is, but I'll go ahead and google it for you. From wiki: "Deists believe... religious truth in general... can be determined using reason and observation of the natural world alone, without the need for either faith or organized religion."
My point still stands; in days of limited scientific knowledge, deism was as close to atheism as one could get.
@gearoiddom Furthermore, try not to be condescending if at all possible. You have no idea how educated I am, nor do I know what type of education you have. Space is limited in these little comment boxes so it's impossible to elaborate on every little assertion, since whole books can be written on these subjects. But suffice it to say that deism was just one step along the path of free thinking that lead, with the aid of science, to modern day atheism.
In Thomas Paine's Common Sense he wrote in his paragraph on religion, "that it is the will of the Almighty, that there should be diversity of religious opinions among us: It affords a larger field for our Christian kindness." The keyword is our. He wrote the word "our", which either includes him as to being in the christian group or he was calling America a Christian nation. Do I believe he was a radical Christian, No, but this quote is truth of his own words.
He wasn't a Christian. In fact, he was completely ostracized for his criticism of Christianity (refer to "Age of Reason"). He was actually a deist, as were many of the most prominent founding fathers.
@TheConstitutionMan No sir! Mr Paine abhord revealled religions with all his reason. He never in any way wished America to be a christian nation. Never!
Please read the Age of reason by Mr. Thomas Paine, and you will understand what I mean.
He also said: "All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit." & "The world is my country, all men are my brethren, and to do good is my religion"
@TheConstitutionMan that is what he wrote in common sense but he was trying to appeal to religion amongst other things to shore up support for a revolution his books after the revolution concluded how ever were vehemently anti christian he have to read his books to understand his ideas i recommend reading the rights of man in which he responds to edmund burkes attacks on the french revoluion and defense of monarchy and aristocry and of course age of reason in which he supports deism
@TheConstitutionMan He believed in the KINDNESS of christianity. He obviously used the word 'OUR' to appeal to christians. He obviously wasn't a christian if you have read his stuff. He refused to accept christianity. "I believe that religious duties consist in doing justice, loving mercy, and endeavoring to make our fellow- creatures happy" -Paine
@TheConstitutionMan believing in the kindness of christianity alone doesn't make someone a christian, you have to belive that christ existed and you have to believe in the bible. thus the word 'christianity"
@TheConstitutionMan No man! He did not endorce religion. That man was ahead of his time, and for you to get the whole point in what you have extracted from a volume of his thoughts, you must read everything before and after those words on religion by Thomas Pain. He alos knew that politically, religion was neccessary as an opium to those who can only be kept inline with religion. But he never in anyway endorced religion. Infact, he vomited religion out of his common sense
I love Thomas Paine. Here is one of my favorite quotes of his:
"All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit."
Do you believe in allowing your government to steal wealth from your grandchildren? It may, or may not, surprise you to find out that your Constitution contains a license for Congress to do exactly that. It is the 2nd clause, Section 8, Article I, the power of Congress to borrow money on the credit of the United States. This is where all of the peoples problems lie, and this power must be abolished if we are to really be a free people in this country. It must be done by Article V.
Thomas Paine was an anti-religion deist who supported free public education, a progressive taxation, and a guaranteed minimum wage. He also supported the French Revolution. Paine was a classical liberal who would later influence our modern, social liberalism. He was no conservative or even libertarian since both groups are opposed to a progressive tax and minimum wage.
@RafaNadal08 I'm going on a stretch here with religion. well the christian one. I feel these men knew that even the churches were corrupt. When Thomas Jefferson wrote his version I kind of pieced it together. The bible has been messed with because it was a political force and politics tends to get corrupt. They use bible references to hit you at a deep level to persuade you. Also, it tries to unite you and that's scary when you have madmen uniting you for a reason other than freedom.
@Shrunkenhead61 - ur email addie properly identifies u - The Bible is God's Holy Word, inspired by the Spirit of God, and has held true down through the centuries - it have been proven true, time & again.
What is really Truth lasts forever - and God said - The Word of the Lord shall endure forever - 1 Peter 1:25.
God is Sovereign, Pal! THEY? No one hits you with anything - you have free will & if you hate God, then don't follow Him! What? Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there IS LIBERTY! L.
Looks like OBAMA is a carbon copy of Bush but worse he's not protecting America and it's citizens he's expanded the war, raise our debt higher, damaged our economy further, raised taxes even higher , limited freedoms and rights and has made America weakerer and ripe for attack and he and congress have turned his back on the Consititution. Where is the liberal media now??? Oh wait they too are the problem too...What to do? What to do..........? FIGHT!!!!!!! DO NOT BE A VICTIM!!!! F I G H T ! !
Wrong Obama is a Statist Bush was not! Obama bought up car companies and banks with our money Bush did not! Obama has BOWED to foreign leaders!!! Bush did not!!!!

You realize the fighting started in 1775? And there were outbreaks of violence before that. What Paine did, though, was stimulate the desire for independence. The "revolutionary" war was not originally started over the desire for independence, but to resist some of the British policies they had implemented.

Muhtadin 4 months ago
@Muhtadin - I will try to explain this to you...but, I doubt that you will understand this, becuz, the natural man cannot receive the things of the Spirit, for they are SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED...the Spirit of God was not in the heart of Pharoah Neco...he was unrepentant and unrighteous before God. How God hardened Pharoah's heart is not certain...but, it is possible that hardening came, through God sending Pharoah an evil spirit, which spoke into his ears, rebellion and a stubborn behavior. L.
Layna8 4 months ago
@Layna8 There is no spirit. No evidence of there ever being a spirit. It's just as real as unicorns and dragons. Even if there was, how would you know? Do you have even the slightest shred of evidence for what you claim? Were you there when "God" committed this act. Using words like, "SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED" does not fool people that know their stuff. That term is like using "beam us in" from Star Trek. Totally fictional!
Muhtadin 4 months ago
Layna8 4 months ago
@Layna8 WHO AM I TO MAKE SUCH A STATEMENT??? I am a free, educated, well-informed citizen. That's who I am. There is no evidence for spirits existing or ever to have existed, just like unicorns, dragons, fairies etc. Show me evidence of the spirit and I'll listen. And "closeminded heathen" (really???)-- are you from the 18th century??? I'm an atheist, makes me a free-thinker. You're the close minded one who won't accept the "possibility" of there not being a god.
Muhtadin 4 months ago
@Muhtadin - You obviously did not absorb or understand what I wrote in my other posting. If you had, you would not have rehashed the same 'un-knowledgeable, unaware verbage that you wrote previously. Ur the guy trying to teach people to play tennis, when you have never taken a lesson in your life. If God is real, it don't make you that FREE, does it? L.
Layna8 3 months ago
@Layna8 The spirit is a person? Once again, do you have any single shred of evidence for what you claim??? Btw, you don't exactly need a lesson on tennis to teach others. If you're good enough (which I am) you self learn. And I am FREE. If I wasn't free and God had a hold of me, he wouldn't let me be an atheist, would he?
Muhtadin 3 months ago
@Muhtadin - I paraphrase that verse, 4 lack of space - 'you(a natural man) cannot receive the things of the Spirit, for they are FOOLISHNESS unto him.' Thus, it is easy to understand why you bring up 'Star Trek' and other such ridiculous worldly reasoning. I am being 'patient' with you, in this, becuz of your spiritual ignorance.
Otherwise, I would not bother to respond at all...it would be wasting my time, which is precious to me. L.

Why are you so worried?

Thomas Paine was just 1 step away from being an Atheist. Most people do not understand that a Deist is all but an atheist. He hated Christianity with intensity which was reflected in his writings. Common Sense rejects the Bible, miricales & God interacting with man through revelation. Virtually ALL the founding fathers were Freemasons. So much for America being a Christian country. US Presidents & VP have been littered with masons. Clinton was CFR, Bush Skull & Bones, etc, etc.

Period. He was actually a deist, which, in his day, was practically the same as being an atheist. And, yes, he certainly did own. I want to say that he was ahead of his time, but seeing the current political climate of this country (these "tea party" folks, for example), it seems that he was ahead of our time too.
iandmiller 1 year ago
@iandmiller More than that Paine objected to basing government on religious teaching. For example having a King because the Bible said so. Today Paine would have none of people who were making enviornmental policy based on religion. Those nuts that say well God only takes 10% so the federal government shouldn't get anymore than that would really piss Paine off.
SamWiseGingy 1 year ago
@iandmiller I have never seen such abuse of the words 'practically the same'! Google the term 'deist' and get educated.
gearoiddom 1 year ago
@gearoiddom I have never seen such failure to put phrases, such as "practically the same thing," into proper context. I know damn well what Deism is, but I'll go ahead and google it for you. From wiki: "Deists believe... religious truth in general... can be determined using reason and observation of the natural world alone, without the need for either faith or organized religion."
My point still stands; in days of limited scientific knowledge, deism was as close to atheism as one could get.
iandmiller 1 year ago
