no, the point of this film (and the novel by nick hornby) is to show how much he was missing out on, the depth of experience of life, by being terrified of it.
Will is clearly based on the character 'Mersault' in Albert Camus' The Stranger because they are both so utterly detached from the everyday workings and sufferings of society. He is the factored equivalent of Karl Marx's theory of alienation. No kids to fathom, no job to loath; freedom to rejoice in tranquil solace. Will's 'Feel Nothing' approach to life is very Buddhist in nature, a concept also covered by Existentialist writer Jean Paul Sartre. Will's life in short; is an Utopian dream.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE POST THE SCENE WHERE RACHEL WEISZ IS TALKING, AND HUGH GRANT IS THINKING THAT WHATEVER SHE SAYS IS INTERESTING OR WHATEVER?! PLEASEEEEE :D
This film is hilarious. The point of the film shows that although you need people in your life, you can still be an 'island'. At the end Will still thinks of himself as an island. The guy from skins as Marcus is much better in this. About a boy is one of my favourite movies and skins is SOOOO SHIT!!!!!!!
@Wantgamegetmilkful The point of the film is that no man is an island, and his pointless materialistic routines were a pale substitute for the messy, complicated thing that life really is.

Men are bastards. Did you learn anything from that film. At all? Hahahaha. Seriously though. Go and chop your penis off with a kitchen knife! Damn I'm good.
I've considered starting a forum/site on this very topic. Clearly we can't fully relocate to our own islands full time however an information exchange from neighbouring dwelllers would be most useful.
